Found a Triangle card on someone's blog, but having trouble figuring it out. She makes the conversion from cm to inches so it's not that. I just can't figure how you get a triangle that is 12" on all three sides. Take a look and see if you can help me?? StampOwl's Studio: Triangle Star Card
Like she says in the template: On one side, find the 6" point and mark it. Going sttraight down the paper, find at least one other 6" point below the original and mark it. Draw a line joining the two dots and extended down some. The laying your ruler from corner to the center line, mark the 12" point on the center line. I would do it from both corners to make sure.

Thanks. I don't know why I have sooo much trouble with written instructions, but I sure am grateful when I find a video tutorial!! Just couldn't find one for this. Now with your help, I am going to try this again!
On the back of the paper, draw a pencil line down the middle so you are dividing the paper exactly in half (and you see two rectangles).
From one end of the pencil line, measure 2" along the line and put a dot. (This dot will be the top of your triangle).
From this top dot, draw a line down the paper to meet at the bottom corner of the paper square. (This line will be one side of the triangle and will be 12" long).
From the top dot, again draw a line down the paper to meet at the other bottom corner, of the square. (You will have another side that is 12" long).
Now you should have a triangle with all sides equal lengths ( 12").
(Or, if you have a protractor, you could just measure an angle of 60 degrees from each end of the 12" base line, on your 12" square of paper. Then extend the top line of each angle up the page until they cross over and you will see a triangle is formed. This method will work to make any size of equilateral triangle because they always have angles of 60 degrees).

Well, I've made five so far and yours is the closest...I always end up with the folds needing trimmed to fit. I haven't decorated any yet. Still trying to get the best shape for the base first.
I'm back over a week later to update. I am not sure where you get the 2" measurement. If I go down a full 2" then I don't get a 12x12x12 triangle. I get more like 1 5/16th. Am I making this harder than it should be?

I think I have figured it out. I am going to put a tutorial on my blog, but here it goes for here, let me know if it helps.
I used my scoreboard and found the vertical 6" line on my 12x12 paper, draw a pencil line all the way down using a ruler to make it straight.
Using a 12" ruler, start at a bottom corner, and measure 12" to the line you have just drawn, draw this line. Do the same with the other side. You should have a triangle drawn with 12" sides on all three sides.
Cut it out. Put a straight side on the board, and score on the 5 1/4" line and on the 7" line. Turn, do the same for the other sides. You should have an inner triangle now with "outside" lines scored.
Now fold up. I made a second one and trimmed it so that I had patterns for cutting out patterned paper. I am going to keep them for future use.

My only mistake following your instructions was that I didn't look at the picture and when I went to the scoring part, I lined the triangle up against the top of the scor pal instead of along the side. IF I would have looked at the picture, I would have had it right! Thanks!

I am so glad it helped. I thought the directions were confusing as well. I made one for my husband, a "just because" thing. I put it on his bedstand thinking he would see it when he went to bed last night, but he didn't have to set the alarm, and he didn't see it! Oh, well, he has to set it tonight!!!
Been searching for easy instructions. All this helps so much. Looking at the 8 1/2" x 11" template, the right side looks like some instructions are not showing up. Is there a way for you to check to see if everything is there?
I made one of these cards....I was DETERMINED to make one. It took me three times to get a template that was perfect even though it measured perfect each time. TBH, I'd like to make another one because my first one looks so beautiful, but I don't know if it's worth the time again. I appreciated all of the hints, but something just didn't click for me. Mine is very thick and large, so I'll have to include it with the gift...definitely NOT a mailer! Congratulations to all of you who have mastered this card....good job!
