It was only 17 below in the Twin Cities. You must live up north. My Nephew just called it was -40 on the thermometer on Lake Kabetogama. Now that is cold.

Yeah, -21 when I got up.. frozen water to top it off.
Drove to Cambridge to get a new water line at Menards only to have the thermostat go out of my car... burr!
Just think though.. January is our coldest month right... so less then 30 days left! LOL
We are in SW corner of the state, had 20+" of snow last weekend! Our pipes coming into the house were frozen this morning, dh went down there with a hair dryer and soon had it thawed out, thank goodness!
The wind is roaring across the Red River from the North Dakota side. Very cold, blustery night .... I came home from work a little early so I could have daylight. No use blowing out my driveway until morning because it will only drift in again. January is SUPPOSED to be like this (more or less, LOL) however. It's when we get this kind of weather in late February and March that I have a hard time with it.
We made it up to 12 above today. The scary thing is that it felt warm after being below zero for so long! Hoping for warmer temps all week and praying the wind doesn't blow too much before this stuff gets stuck down! Being snowed in makes for great card-making days, though!!
It can be a very good thing! I've been making cards like crazy, what a fun way to spend the winter! (Even tho they came by and pushed the snow back into the fields and we haven't been snowed in for the last several days.)
I did have to move all my "stuff" into the living room since it is too cold upstairs...my dh suggested I do so! Today he looked at my piles of "stuff" and said he didn't think I was going to move it all down....I told him I didn't! It was priceless!
Snowed in again! Thank goodness, we've just gotten a couple inches of new snow (after six inches of SLUSH over the weekend that you could neither blow or shovel) but the winds are gusting up to 55-60 mph. Didn't even try to make it to work today. Almost everything is closed. We're not even getting mail delivery today.
Hi, This is a hibbingnite that is getting sick of this snow..Had it for 5 days straight..It might look better today. I live in a apt bldg, and I will say we have good plow service where I live. It's just been so awful haven't wanted to go out...I have seen it worse too though...
Who was it who said they had to move there *stuff* down stairs cuze it was to cold...That brought back a lot of memories....One thing about a apt. complex, your a lot warmer.

I have family in Hibbing but it's been @17 years since I've been up there. I'm in St Paul now and am ready for warmer weather!

Yep, I think we could get an unanimous vote for warmer weather!
Let's see.. any Minnesotans on here want winter to stick around longer than it has to?
Doubt anyone will say YES to that one! LOL
No chance! The only thing I 'like' about a day like yesterday is going to bed early and snuggling with my corgis. I have been mindful, the past couple of weeks, of how blessed I am though to HAVE a warm house, warm bed with flannel sheets etc. as I think of all the people in Haiti sleeping outside under the open skies as they await the next aftershock and listen to heavy equipment moving debris and looking for more victims of the earthquake. At least that is one thing we don't have to worry about!!
I'm on board with voting for warmer weather! I can't stand this cold stuff! Ergh! But I couldn't agree with you more Beth. I have a friend from high school (she's a doctor) in Haiti. She lived down there for a 9 months period a couple years ago and visits frequently. Anyway, she flew down there 5 days after the earthquake to help treat patients in a makeshift clinic. I foloow what she is doing there through her blog and through the blog of the family she is staying with (they are missionaries there). Amazing stuff...so yes, our cold weather seems bearable compared to the images and stories I see posted on their blogs! I'm keeping all of them in my thoughts and prayers!
Thanks for those web addresses. I will keep them in my prayers. I have a friend who is a missionary there too. They were evacuated to the Dominican Republic and are waiting for word when they can safely go back. Their hearts are in Haiti, but they have young children, so that impacts them too.

That was me....the reason I can't warm up my craftroom upstairs is because it melts the snow on the roof and then we get an ice dam and then the ceiling leaks! We got about 2 ft. of snow over Christmas and it has caused lots of problems here (SW corner of the state). People have had sheds fall in b/c of the weight.
No matter what, we are thankful for all our blessings, as has been mentioned. My dd and I went to Haiti in '97 on a mission trip. We were on the north side of the country. The Christians there have so much joy even though they have so little to survive on. May we learn to be satisfied with what we have!

You're welcome Beth! I know they'll appreciate the prayers! I'm happy to hear that your friends made it to DR ok. I can only imagine how hard that must be on them to be away from their home knowing what is going on or lack there of.

Hi! I have friends in Haiti as well. It was days before I heard from them. It is devastating to see the destruction.
It's amazing how small the world is, huh? I know Jen just wrote on her blog that 2 more nurses she knew from Children's Hospital in Minneapolis arrived in Port au Prince (I think that was yesterday).
I'm so glad that your friends are ok and that you finally heard from them. That must have been horrible to be in limbo for days not knowing and not hearing anything. My thoughts and prayers go out to them as well!
