How is everyone doing? I am getting excited for Christmas. My parents are coming home from Texas. I am getting tired of them calling every night to tell me how warm it is down there. (yep, I am a bit jealous). Now, they can experience the lovely coldness.

I wish you all a very blessed holiday season.

Michele H. I bet you will have a blast with your fam, it's always fun to be around family you love.
I have 1 Christmas gift purchased (a new digital camera for my 18 y/o daughter who wants to be a photojournalist). We have to wait for hubby's paycheck tomorrow to do anymore shopping. With the hubby's new job, we now get a paycheck every Friday! Downside is I don't get to see him a whole lot anymore. Oh, well, it will all work out in the end. I also only have tpday off between now and Christmas eve, and my hubby will then work night shift for 4 nights starting 12/24. Kinda need to have the shopping done for the am of 12/24! Ugh! I might have to let the hubby do the shopping this weekend without me!
I still haven't sent out Christmas cards yet either! Oh well. DD can make cookies and stuff cuz her school is closed until they can repair the damage done by a broken water sprinkler. They don't go back until 1/5/09! Hmmm, maybe I'll send her Christmas shopping! I mean, we already have her gift purchased! We'll see. I suppose I better ask the DH what he thinks
Holly, so glad things went better for you yesterday, and thanks for the offer for a crash pad for the parents, I hope I don't have to take you up on it. Of course, if you are ever stranded in Bemidji, you HAVE to come stay with me!

I am so very excited. They have only been gone for a couple of months but I really miss them. They will be staying with us this year since they are letting someone down on their luck use their house for the winter. We are almost done remodeling. Hopefully we will be done by Monday and they arrive on Tuesday. Nothing like waiting until the last minute
Tanya, don't you wish that we didn't have to live paycheck to paycheck? I am with you on that. Good luck with all your time juggling. Sounds like if you all pitch in you will get it all done. I will say a little prayer that all goes smoothly for you. I am sure it will.

Happy Thursday, all!

Holly, it is NO fun to ranch in the winter months, is it?! Sorry you had so many things go wrong, but glad you had some help and I hope it smooths out. And continued healthy wishes for your dad.

Tanya, bet your kids are happy about extra vacation days - crazy frozen pipes, I just had a friend tell me about a frozen/burst pipe in her basement - ugh!

Michele, enjoy your parents visit! Maybe they'll bring some warm texas weather with them.

I am done with christmas cards, nearly done with neighbor gifts, etc, except delivering and not nearly done with gifts for my kids and dh - arggg! better get busy on that, right?!

Actually it is only 1 of my kids that has extra days off, Charlene is at a charter school in her senior year, and I have 2 in the regular high school, and 1 in the regular middle school. I want this year to be special because my oldest 2 graduate this year, then #3 graduates next year, and then I will only have one kid left! I don't know what to do with only one kid!

ANd wow! Mary you are on the ball! I envy your industriousness! And yes, I really wish we all didn't have to live paycheck to paycheck, and I am working on that. Maybe in another 2 years we will be caught up on things and can save a little money before we retire, in like 35 years!

But, Christmas is all about family, love, and Jesus so we will still have a great Christmas even if the gifts aren't huge.
Michele H. I'm glad you get to spend the holidays with your parents, you obviously have a great relationship with them

okay, just so you all know - I can only call those things done because I pared everything back this year and pulled my expectations (of myself) down this year! lol - thanks for the great thoughts, though!

thanks! The sticks on mine are little two pronged 'bamboo forks' that I bought at my Cub grocery store by the toothpicks. I thought they were kinda cool looking, but didn't have a plan for them then. So I used them instead of toothpicks when dd made the marshmallows.

Hey gals, I just got back from the Middle School Orchestra concert (DS#3 plays viola)
Here is the picture, we used the timer and tripod on my camera and took the picture in the woods next to our house in the gorgeous patch of velvety moss. And I thought it would be easier to get almost adults to all be looking at the camera and smiling at the same time! I know, I know, I'm the one looking down, but I promise, this was the best shot, lol!

Tanya - beautiful photo! love the wooded shot and I know what you mean about all eyes the same direction for the same photo!

the candy cane marshmallows are on my blog, something dd made last night for her friends - I saw therm on Julie Buhler's Paper Pleasing Ideas blog a few weeks ago. You dip jumbo marshmallows in a water/powder sugar glaze, then roll them in crushed candy canes, with a toothpick stuck in them for cocoa stir sticks. They're super easy and so beautiful. my dd made some cocoa packets wrapped in top note dies with a tiny bag of the candy cane marshmallows for her friends. She gave all of them away today and is making more tonight - lol - I'm just glad she's having fun with them!

http://mjrindal.blogspot.com/2008/12/sweet-treats.html

there is the link to mine and here is the link to Julie's - she made a fabulous gift box for hers

eta: lol - guess I'm too slow or too chatty! stampnkat beat me to the post

Mary those look yummy!! I am going to have to try them out. Thanks for sharing.

Tanya your family looks so nice. That is a great picture of you guys!

I just found out last night were supposed to get 8 to 10 inches of snow starting today. Thats what they said last time and we got 2 feet instead!! So I am heading out to the farm and get animals bedded down again with fresh straw, get the tanks ready and etc. Of course I haven't gotten the plow fixed yet as dad needed the truck for work this week. Ughh!!!

So ladies get ready for the snow again. Yucky!! Be safe and warm!

Hi ladies. My husband said we were supposed to get 3-6 inches but we only got a dusting. Looked at weather.com and it looks like northern Minnesota will get hit and that it hit south of the twin cities metro area.

Mary, I didn't know you had a blog! Learn something new every day. Of course I don't know why I didn't think you had one!

I hope you all have a great day!

The marshmallow treats are sure cute. I will have to remember that for next year. No more time this year.

I crotcheted dish clothes for the teachers this year. Plus I had bought dish towels at the end of last season for like 50 cents a piece. So they each got a dish towl and two dish clothes. I made cute little boxes to put them in. Couldn't afford to do anything else. Plus I figured it was something that everyone could use. Of course, I forgot to send them with the kids this morning. I had to take a break, run home, get them and bring them into school. I hate being so forgetful.

So far, it is beautiful here. I wouldn't mind if the snow misses us.

Yep, saw the forecast....storm strats tomorrow at 6am, I leave for work at 6:30am. Suppoed to get 6-12 inches through the day and more overnight Saturday. I leave work at about 8pm and leave again at 6:30 the next morning. Drive 36 miles one way, and I have a feeling the back roads I drive are going to be fun. Happy Winter
On the up side, DS has a Cross Country Ski meet tomorrow in Bemidji. They should have plenty of snow, lol!

Thanks Mary on the cocoa cards. My upline demoed them to me about 3 years ago and I loved them then, and I have recycled this idea a couple times already. Everyone loves them every time! You can fit all kinds of things in that little pouch

Beautiful baby!! Congratulations.

Ugh ... winter doesn't start for two more days and I'm already sick of it! Last weekend was kind of fun .... I stayed home and worked on my cards, but I have things planned for tomorrow .... a Christmas brunch in the morning and a symphony at night. It hasn't started snowing yet and I thought it was supposed to start this evening, so maybe it won't turn out to be as bad as they are predicting.

I am praying for everyone.
I hope that the winter storm tracking our way isn't too bad. We need to finish shopping.

I am rather enjoying this little gift. He even lets me sleep 4 hours at a time during the night. Knock on wood that does change anytime soon.

I am attempting to do Christmas Eve for my family, wish me luck.

Happy Holidays everyone!!!!!

Good afternoon ladies. Just thought I'd check in. I'm off work today and already did a grocery trip. I have intentions of making some BRAK cards today and maybe a few cards to have on hand for a thread called "Send a Card...Receive a Card" on SCS (of course). I finished the first two books in the "Twilight" series but can't find book three at Walmart and don't want to pay the price at a regular book store so I'll have to wait until Walmart gets the books back in again.

I do have "The Potluck Club" (book one) that I got from my Secret Elf that I can sit and reread if I feel like vegging.

It's minus 7 here in the Twin Cities and snow is coming either later today or tomorrow (think tomorrow but I don't remember for sure). I'd rather have snow than this bitter cold!

Tanya, how is Ariel doing?

Take care, everyone!

Lynn

P.S. I'm happy winter's starting today ... the days will not start getting longer again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Minnesotans. My dh is working tonight. Tomorrow we got to the in-laws then to my sister's house. I went to the memorial service for my DS's best friend's daughter. She was the woman killed in St Louis Park by her ex boy friend on Dec 16th. She has an 18 yr old son. He will need a lot of good thoughts and prayers. The memorial was beautiful. The family followed her wishes and even had a comedian after the luncheon. Susan believed that laughter was a great healer.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Merry Christmas to everyone. I'm feeling kind of sad to not be with my family in Michigan this year but given this crazy weather we've been having, I really am happy to be safe and sound at home with my corgis - even if we're alone; at least it's cozy and warm. Joan, I am thinking of your friends tonight ... what a horrible heartache so close to Christmas. I'm also thinking of the family that was killed this morning on I-94 near Alexandria (3 killed, 1 in critical condition) .... I can't even imagine that.

This thread has been pretty quiet lately. I am excited my nephew is back form Afghanistan. He has been deployed three times. My brother is having a party for him on the 3rd. My dh isn't working. So we can go. He leaves for the base in Kansas on the 4th.
Happy New Year!
