Default What software do I need to do this--

First I am not sure where to post this so if the Mods feel it should be moved to another section that is fine.

I want to be able to copy a picture and then draw over it .

I am very new to photo editing and unless it is very basic I don't know how to fix something. I want to be able to copy a picture, draw circles around problem areas that I want to fix and send them to my daughter who knows a lot about editing or camera settings so she can tell me how to fix something .
Trying to explain needed/desired corrections "in words" can be cumbersome.

What software do I need to do this ? Or How do I do this ?

I hope this makes sense
Thanks
Barbara

Hi Barbara,
It would help to know what operating system you use - Windows or Mac.

If it's Windows - there's a very basic editing program built in to it called Paint. In that, you can use the pencil tool to freehand draw a rough circle around your problem point, and you can add text.

But if you want to be able to fix things yourself, you'll probably need something with more options than Paint does. Personally I use GIMP which is free and similar to PhotoShop.
I believe many people use Picasa, but I have no experience with that myself.
For all programs, you'll have no problem finding online tutorials, both video and step-by-step.
To learn any editing package, you've probably already disovered, is a bit of a learning curve!
Really, whichever one you choose you should always be able to draw a circle and add text.

Thanks Sabrina,
I should have said I have a Mac and if it matters I am running Snow Leopard .

Editing other than cropping definitely has a steep learning curve at least for me Which is why I want to be able to send stuff to my daughter to ask how to fix it
I will check out GIMP and Picasa and see which will work for me and which is the easiest
Thanks again
Barbara

Hmm - if you use a Mac, I can't offer any advice at all because I have no idea what programs work with it. Good luck, anyway.
