This is a vent: teaching adults photography
OK...so today was the first session of FREE series of workshops designed to help adults who want to take better photos with the gear they have....
Had a total of 10 show up. They had Nikon DSLRs, Minolta Dynamx DSLR,
Nikon entry level DSLR's, Canon entry level DSLR, Kodak Easy Share, and a Nikon Coolpix S10.
This wasn't bad,,,I knew they would come with all types and sizes.....
Everyone had a manual so that was great.....some of them had never used them so that wasn't so great.......
But the thing I want to vent about........at the conclusion of the workshop,,,one couple ( whom I know outside of the workshop and have for years) asked me to look at their county fair photos and tell them how they could have moved them "up to the next level"......including Grand Champion....This is where the tongue biting began.....
I asked them questions:::: What was your subject in this photo? Is it the largest part of the photo? Is it in sharp focus? Is your background clean and free of clutter....
And the response from the male--but how could I make this a grand champion photo.......
and I so badly wanted to say---throw away your shirt pocket camera with its fixed ISO of 800, limited focal length lens, and microscopic sensor and buy a camera....... but I didn't........
I enjoy working with folks who have tried to learn as much as they can on their own....but I detest folks who want quick fixes or easy outs.
OK vent over......back to your normal routines.
