2 Attachment(s)
Photo challenge #100! Congratulations to all who participate....we've made it to 100. This week's challenge is 'In the clouds". We've had some amazing cloud formations in the sky this summer and I'm always in awe of the beautiful skies. Lets see if you can find some unusual or beautiful clouds this week.
Also, in honor of our 100th challenge, I am also posting a prize challenge. I will link it in here when I have finished posting it. Photo Challenge Rules: ~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos. ~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best. ~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued. ~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album. ~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere. ~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime.. ~ Again - HAVE FUN My photos were taken from above.....on my flight from Buffalo to Florida. I love how the second one has a cloud formation that looks like a bear! |
Nice clouds. I like to take pictures of clouds to use in my cards.
|
We get great clouds here but I am cloud-photo challenged.
Hopefully we'll have a couple of sunny days or evenings this week so I can get shooting and bracket my exposures for a good safety margin. |

This is my best shot so far. I should have not been lazy and got the tripod, because I had to bump the ISO up as far as it would go. And by the time I'd looked at them and decided I needed the tripod, it had just got too dark. I spotted the moon in the trees when I went to draw the curtains last night.

I love cloud pictures. They are probably one of my favorites to photograph. I probably take more of them then I do of my kids/grandkids! Sad, hugh? Anyway, the first one is an evening shot that I took as I was walking my dogs. I love the colors. The second was a storm coming in fast and furious over the river right toward my house. And the last is my all time favorite. Though it doesn't look like much, what makes it incredible is the fact that this was taken in the middle of the day in FULL color!!! No kidding! I looked out my door and saw these low, fast moving, dark clouds and was pretty sure they would turn into a tornado so I grabbed the camera so I could do 'before' and 'after' pictures of the 'tornado!' Well, a weather woman-I am not! No tornado and not even much of a storm! It all blew over but it was SO incredibly dark that the picture looks like it was done in black and white.

PJill those are some clouds!
|
I've seen anvil clouds alright, but though I've read about lenticular clouds in my weather book, I've never seen one - amazing! They look like stacked contact lenses.
masint04 - I tried getting one with rays like your first one yesterday, but it didn't work out. I like the colour from the sun in the second one. PJill, your middle one almost looks like a fairly typical Irish day, LOL. That last one is amazing when you say it was taken in full colour - sort of made me think of the beginning of the Wizard of Oz when I read that. |
I love those cloud photos PJill.....all three of them!
|
Everyones cloud pics are just so amazing. I love looking at scenery shots when I am having a stressful day. It seems to calm me. Can't wait for the next challange.

WOW!! 100!!! I was here for the first one! Yikes! Seems like such a long time ago now... I've been skipping out on most of them because I'm just plain busy. I really should get back to these. They get my creative juices flowing! =)
|
Hi Hannah, we've missed you!
|
hmmmm cloud pictures.... I have old ones so I guess I'll have to go out today and hope for some good ones. That is if there is a cloud in the sky today!

I only had my pocket camera on the way to work yesterday - it's harder to be sure of a good exposure but this is pretty much what it was like while I was waiting at the bus stop in the morning.

Boy that looks pretty messed up...SCS changed the way uploads are uploaded!
|
cletracloversgirl those are cool pictures.
|
Sabrina, that's what it looked like today around here too! But tonight on our way home, it was snowing hard!
Taishea, great photos, especially the one with the low clouds (fog). |
Taishea, I just LOVE that first one. My brother lives quite high up and he sometimes gets low-lying mists like that.
No snow here, but sub zero temperatures forecast later in the week. You do work in Celsius in Canada, do you? I always have to think, because sub zero in Fahrenheit is so much colder. |
Sabrina I live in Pa...USA...Thanks it was at the end of our road...I thought it was cool...
Ina, thanks, I always admire your pics Armadillo..Thanks Taishea |

I've lost the lens cap for my wide-angle lens, so I only had my point-and-shoot again when I was out shopping today. I timed the shopping badly - school was just out and the shops were busy - but there was enough sunshine for me to get this and a couple of brown shots too :D.
|
Sabrina, I always love it when the clouds above the horizon make it look like there are mountains in the distance......beautiful shot!
Yes, we have the Celcius scale in Canada. When I was growing up, we had the Fahrenheit scale, but around 1970 our government (in it's great wisdom :) decided to change to the metric system, as so much of the world used it. But they forgot that our 'big brother' to the south is probably one of our biggest trading partners, and they weren't about to change! I'm fairly comfortable with both systems, but it's sort of hard to transpose them. I have bookmarked a C. to F. converter on my computer, and I do have a couple of 'buzz' numbers that help me. Like....16C=61F, 20C=68F (room temperature) and 30C=86F. And of course freezing point zero C.=32F. |
I can't remember when we changed, maybe a similar time, because I do remember Fahrenheit. Growing up, we weren't allowed stay home from school unless our temperature was over 99, and I still have trouble remember exactly what normal body temperature is in Celsius - 35.? Doesn't help that my normal temperature is low to start with :D. I'm better on instant conversion of cooking temperatures than lower ones. Of yours I can see why you remember 16 =61 - a nice numeric palindrome.
|
You came to the right place to ask about normal body temperatures! As a nurse, it is a very elemental knowledge........Normal is 98.6F=36.8C. We don't consider anything under 38 degrees to be too much of a fever, but in your case, with a low normal, it probably would be!
|
Ah. After I posted I had a feeling that a real normal was more like almost 37. Maybe now it's one I'll actually remember :D, although I don't think we even have a thermometer in the house these days. Those little cheap battery ones never seem to last.

I took this last week on the way home from the night shift. Some tweeking with PSE to get rid of some pesky power lines made it (at least to my eyes) perfect. :)
|
Melissa, that's like a flash of light! I love it!
|
Melissa, that is a cool cloud.

It looks like a snowy mountain to me!
We had some lovely pink clouds this morning - I had time for a few shots while I was waiting for the bus. |
Sbrina those are nice, especially with the half moon.

Everyone, your pictures are all beautiful. We are passing thro the winter months where there are too many gloomy days but when the sun shines, the clouds are very numberous. Winter in the midwest. Yesterday the sun was grand and glorious and so was the cold.
|
Neat shot Bitty Badger. The sun here (Phoenix) has also been grand and glorious but it is been tooooo durn cold! Early in the morning when I leave for the fitness center, the temperature is 25-28 degrees. Thank goodness my car has not only seat warmer but steering wheel warmer also. Too bad the auto manufactures can't figure out how to cool the steering wheel!
|
Bittybadger, you have captured the beautiful blue of the sky and the whispy clouds as well as those wonderful icicles!
