Sadly, Ina and I feel that with so little participation, it isn't worth keeping up the regular challenges. But it would be lovely to have a place to share interesting photos - so this thread is it!

The same posting rules still apply:
We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.

And also, I will finish updating the Master List of all the challenges, and you can continue to post to them at any time.

Thanks for participating and sharing your corner of the world over the years. We hope you will continue to do so on this thread here; it's always interesting to see; what is everyday for you is unusual for someone else.

And for starting off - we were dog-sitting for my aunt last weekend. As we walked back to the house after doing some shopping, we both spotted this rowan (mountain ash) leaf which had fallen so that almost exactly overlapped the leaf under it.
DH was teasing me no end that I didn't have my camera with me, but I did have my phone.

Sabrina, that is lovely! It would make a great card or background.

I will sub. I kept forgetting about the photo challenges before. A lot of times I forget to pull out my camera. I have my phone but pictures are better from the camera. Thanks for this thread!

I always notice this vacant shop when I am on the bus going to work, there are so often dozens of pigeons perched on it. The other day I was waiting for a bus home just across the road, and noticed that on the next building, they only perch along the ridge and gutter. Maybe the old roof gives them better footholds. So yesterday I was waiting at the same bus stop, and it wasn't raining so I was able to take a couple of photos. But I didn't get one of the next-door building, because I suddenly saw the bus arriving!

You find the most interesting pictures! When I do find something cool, I usually only have my cellphone camera and the pictures aren't as good.

Ah Sabrina, that is so cool. That certainly is a lot of pigeons on that roof. I have a photo that I really like. It was taken Sept 23, on a misty morning. I got a lot of wonderful sunrise photos that morning, some of which I have already shared, but I wanted to show this one and compare it to the one I took this week, and you can see how much water the lake loses in the fall (it all gets let out through the dam)

The part of Gull Island that was visible in Sept. ends at the rust coloured area, the rest has all been exposes since.

What an amazing contrast, Ina! I love the atmosphere of the misty morning one. How come it gets let out in the winter? I would have thought that would be when it fills up. There was a reservoir near where I grew up, and in particularly dry summers you could walk almost all the way across it, while in the winter it was like a full lake. We used to be fascinated by it.

Kathy, I almost never, even for going shopping (that leaf photo was an exception leave the house without my point-and-shoot. It just doesn't take as good photos as my good DSLR, but it's much lighter and more portable - and has a level of zoom which I simply can't afford on my DSLR. Some time I need to switch away from Olympus for more affordable telephoto lenses, but then I'd need to invest in a whole new set of lenses, and I can't see that happening any time soon.

Sabrina, the lake fills up to the brim in the spring with the winter runoff of melting snow. A bunch of smaller rivers flow into this river (called the Grand) and north of here gets a lot of snow. The dam was constructed in 1943 to help control flooding downstream. All summer long water flows over the dam, but in a controlled fashion. But this year we had a lot of rain in the summer, which slowed the emptying of the lake, but not much rain this fall, so now the levels are really down. I think I have mentioned before, that I just love living close to this lake and the nature.

The only camera I own is a bit too big to carry everywhere. I'm glad for the phone camera because I will be able to get a picture even if it isn't perfect. I just love the ones you ladies have been sharing.

The three different sizes of truck making deliveries into the brewery the other morning made me think of Goldilocks and the 3 bears. One of the rare dry mornings recently!!

What a fun photo when you look at it that way! Sorry that your weather has been wet and dreary lately. We have had an exceptional fall. Warmer than usual, with only one snowfall that was gone in 4 days. Today, for example, it was 13C degrees and sunny. Too bad I spent most of the day in bed with vertigo.

The wet, grey days continue! But the other morning, we had sunshine and because I left a little later for work, it was actually light enough to take a photo as I stood at the bus stop.

Very pretty Sabrina. I love sunrises like that! We've had a couple of days of sunshine and it makes all the difference in the world! BTW, I think I forgot to let you know.......I received your wonderful Christmas card on Christmas Eve. Thanks so much. This year again, I didn't get any cards sent out.

I just love your pictures Sabrina! I can never get a whole rainbow in one photo, so that's awesome, but I love the buildings as well. Just a whole different world from mine!

Funny (but probably not for them). Here's what I saw on my way home from church. My neighbours had their grandchildren visiting them.

Kathy, your cow picture reminded me of one time I had taken my mother to visit a garden down in the country. I can't remember how many times we got held up on the way home, it was just the time of day when all the farmers were taking the cows across roads for milking .Fab snow family, Ina - what a fun photo.

I just have a couple of photos to share. The weather here has been crazy this winter. Very little snow and lots to mild spells. Just within this past two weeks, we have had the coldest day on record for that date..........minus 27C with a windchill of -40C degrees. Then the weather got so warm and also a bit of rain, so that most of our snow disappeared. Last Thursday we had a day of snow, rain, freezing rain....terrible roads, and no school buses were running. The next morning, it was a glorious wonderland outside. All the trees were covered with a layer of ice. Gorgeous in the sunshine. Camera time!

I have one more photo to share. It's not a scenic photo, but I love it. It's my 3 year old grandson, putting a puzzle together. Can you tell that his mom just got back from a trip to San Francisco? And just look at that little tongue!

Incredible scenic photos, Ina! I have never seen anything like that in person. The pic of the little guy with the hard-working tongue is a keeper, too! You know, you've got to get that tongue just right or the pieces don't fit together.

BTW ... I didn't know this forum existed. Maybe one day I'll get my camera repaired and starting taking pics again.

Ina, those snow pictures are amazing! The fence looks wonderful all frozen up like that. Your grandson looks cute - you can see how he's concentrating!

Now that I'm almost better, I'm finally getting around to editing some photos from Switzerland when we visited friends at the end of January; I'll be along with a few more but here are a couple for starters; we walked along the lakeside from Neuchâtel to the next town.

We had 7 inches of snow since last evening around 5 p.m. This morning it is clear and sunny. Seeing as we have had very little snow this winter, it is a novelty. Not really, but fresh snow on evergreens always makes for beautiful winter photos.
