Ina and Sabrina your photos are lovely, Ina I just love walking on fresh snow when it crunches, never liked driving in it though.

Not edelweiss, alas. Just some seed head of a wildflower, I think.

I really enjoy your pics, Sabrina! And Ina! I always forget to check this thread. I really need to practice w/ my new DSLR..I think I need a class or two because I'm just not "getting" all the settings. I do have a couple of not so great pics from my cell phone. One is a spectacular sunset last Dec. as I was coming out of the grocery store. The other is our newest yard "pet". She was up on our deck railing again this morning & brought her new boyfriend, Tom, who was in full tail parade mode. I didn't get a pic of him today, but I'm sure he'll be back. Last year there were 7 of them!

Julie, those are gorgeous sunset photos. God really is the greatest artist, isn't He? You got some good shots of the wild turkeys too. They must be finding food, if they keep returning. I had a couple in my front lawn last winter, but by the time I got my camera out, they were long gone!

Ah, Ina has let me know that your yard "pet" is a turkey, Julie! I was wondering - when you mentioned tail parade I could only think of a pheasant and I knew it wasn't that. Like the snow blower - something I'm never going to see here!! Fabulous sunset photos, too, the colours are amazing.
I had to come back and look at your photos properly, Ina - I was only on my phone earlier. The first and last are my favourites. What a lot of snow!! We're in a rainy season here - but since the winter was actually quite dry, I expect the reservoirs probably need it.

Yes..turkeys, Sabrina! We have an assortment of animals in our yard. DH calls me Dr. Doolittle, lol. They really aren't afraid of me. I do have some pics of the tom turkeys last year when they were on parade. One morning last month there were 8 deer crowded under the bird feeder. This morning, the hen was back up on our railing & the tom was parading down below; obviously trying hard to impress her!

Oh, Julie - on the settings. Maybe it's just me, but I found reading and re-reading the manual helped a lot. But then my last camera was one that only came with a pdf on a disc . We printed it and DH got it bound in work for me, because for me, it's the best way I learn - reading and experimenting.

Next time I see the hawks, I'll try to get a pic. Usually I have to chase them off because they perch in our trees & try to get little birds from around our feeder. I do have a pic of one from several years ago, but it was such a gray, overcast winter day, it's really hard to see. What hawks do you have, FMcrafter? We usually have red tail, but I've also seen red shoulder.

I don't know...I am in Canada...they look all brown...but they just always swoop by my window...I live on the 10th floor overlooking a ravine...I am usually just so transfixed by them....and very happy that because of them I do not have pigeons nesting on my balcony!

according to this

it looks like a Coopers Hawk

Oh wow! Those colours are beautiful. And how wonderful to have a view of hawks too. I've seen sparrowhawks in our garden on the odd occasion; mixed feelings because they eat "my" small birds.

Next to where I work is a de-consecrated church. When I started the job, it was a lighting showroom, and in fact I got the Anglepoise lamp on my desk there. It went bust in the recession, and last year started on its next incarnation as a micro-distillery. It's been behind hoardings ever since - but just in the last few weeks it's acquired a beautiful new glass steeple. I don't even know what the old one used to look like, as it hasn't had one since the nineteen forties when it was blown down.

Sabrina, that's beautiful! Not really a steeple, but still gives a historical statement for the new distillery.

We had a run of bad weather so I haven't taken pictures of anything other than cards for the last week! And while our squirrel-proof feeders are great for letting just the smaller birds actually eat the seeds, they are not conducive to bird photos like I used to take .Hope you get your camera back soon, Kathy, and Patti, it would be lovely to see some of yours.

I tried to get another picture this morning around 3 a.m. that pesky possum was on the porch eating cat food from outside kitty's dish. But after the flash went off the first time he decided he didn't want to stick around so I didn't get a second chance.

Wow Kathy, that is a gorgeous sunset. We had pretty skies at sunset too ............a totally red circle sun, in a hazy mauve coloured cloud. Too bad I didn't have my camera with me.
The portulaca is such a pretty colour.

A surprise visitor enjoying dandelion seeds in the garden this morning - it's been four or five years since I last saw a bullfinch.

bullfinch.jpg

And I also spotted this decor on a utility box when I was on a bus last night. Sadly, because it was an express bus, it was in the main traffic lane and not the city bus lane, so a taxi came between just as I was taking the photo. The Vikings are a big part of Ireland's heritage. There's a DUCK boat tour in Dublin called Viking Splash...

The red colored thing in the center at he head of the pond is a small water pump. She plugs it in through a plug she put inside a birdhouse to hide it and then water runs out the pump. We need some rain to fill up the pond. She likes to go fish in the summer and catch fish for in there too.

Frogs seem to find it on their own, however, she has cats too! Need i say more? If water level is high and frogs stay IN the pond they remain safe, otherwise, they disappear.

The second one shows why you have such fabulous reflected light in the first one. I have some city shots with that effect, but seeing the contrast of your buildings with all the woodland makes it so striking and effective.
