Wow Susie, your photography is absolutely stunning. I just take pictures, but you are an artist with your camera! I will be checking out your blog when I get a chance. My favourites here are the first one, and the last one, but they are all fabulous!

Aw, thanks Ina! I am fortunate to have a husband who is a wonderful photographer (a hobby he took up right after we were married). In my humble opinion his photography is amazing! He is also a master with the editing program, Photoshop. Debby Hughes (Limedoodle) has a wonderful blog piece about photography.

The most favorite picture I ever took was really part talent, part accident! My brother was setting off fireworks in his backyard so I set my camera to fireworks and kept snapping. I got awesome spiral fireworks. Framed and on my wall! I'm not sure if I have extra copies so I may have to take a picture of the picture to show you....

I would love to see your fireworks photo, Kathy. Many times we get a "happy accident" with photographs. I believe it's why the Photo Stock industry isn't as strong as it use to be. The lens inside an iPhone is now so strong that people are getting terrific shots - it only takes one to be the "money shot" One tip my husband offered me: take lots of shots (as you did) - you may only get one or two good ones but that's okay. I find it takes the pressure off. I tend to take my time now, change my settings (shutter speed and aperture). The other evening I took a silhouette action shot and it didn't come out half bad. It's something I will practice on while we are out in Arizona in September. I'll post the shot so you can see it.

About two weeks ago, my husband and I went to Sullivan's Island (our next door neighbor county) We live about 15 minutes from the Ocean. The Charleston area has many salt marsh estuaries that lead to the Atlantic. We call it the "Low Country". There is an old bridge that is located between an estuary and the mouth of the Cooper River which leads to the Atlantic and is a huge waterway for the Charleston Port Terminals. We took our cameras one evening to see if we could catch the full moon and got some great action shots to boot! Kids are kids and if they can find water they'll be in it! It's hot and humid here and they were having a great time jumping and diving off the bridge rail and the tower.

The sunset action shot shows the girl as she launches (but look at the angle of the guy still standing and the one sitting) I felt like I got a great interest shot. The two of the young boy show his hesitation and then... the jump!

I set my shutter speed at 400 and my aperture wide and got little blur.

I need to remember to come back and look at Susie's photos on a big screen tonight!

Snap on the emerging cicada, Kathy, I took loads of shots when we were camping. Used to have to brush all the empty "shells" off the tree beside our tent each evening. Sorry that I'm not very active on this thread these days...too much real life and less forum time.

I usually find the cicada shells after the cicada has left it. O got lucky that one day. Even had one of the pictures aired on a local channel! They air pictures once a week and sometimes you can see them online e as well, but I'm not sure if mine went online or not. I was just so excited to see it on television! I'll try and upload two or three of those in a bit. They are saved on a CD and I have to turn on my computer for that. On the tablet currently.

I completely understand about life commitments and little time for our hobbies, Sabrina. I have really enjoyed my time to create again the past 2 weeks. I think I felt I might be to rusty, but it comes back with practice.

When I saw this thread yesterday I was thrilled. I think had I found it sooner I may not have started my Instagram account back up. I had made the decision to get off social media this past fall after I found a very inappropriate post on my Instagram feed. I was also seeing them on FB. I just felt it was time to get off. I kept my SCS gallery and I'm so glad I did. I believe it's the safest place to post and make friendships. I did make my Instagram private this time.

Vance and I are going back to Arizona for the month of September. We have decided to drive back this year rather than fly. We are taking our cameras, his golf clubs, and my art supplies. We are renting a small house in the development we used to live in. We still maintain friendships there and we both have family in Phoenix. I am looking forward to spending my days by the pool, having lunch with my sister, and stamping to my hearts content at the first paper crafting store I had ever seen - that's where it all started for me.

We will be taking some "photo adventures" too. Vance and I went to school together and married in Arizona almost 49 years ago (October). We took our honeymoon in Sedona before it became such a popular place. So, a piece of our hearts will always remain in our home state. We have friends who live in Prescott and Tucson as well as the greater Phoenix area and it's always so much fun to get together again.

Thanks so much ladies for welcoming me to this thread. I look forward to seeing your photo's.

I've attached several photo's of our Arizona trip last year.

Wow! Kathy, those are two great shots!! Believe it or not this is the first time I have actually seen one - I've certainly heard them, especially when we lived in northern Virginia, but I've never seen one until now.

That was the first time I actually saw one emerge from the shell. I usually find shells on the trees.

How exciting for you.

Here are mine. I was fascinated to see how green they are when they emerge. My last shot was taken on a walk when we were staying on a different campsite the week before, and is how I've only ever seen them before. They must change colour quite quickly! And their wings were so beautiful, like plastic film almost.

Wow, wow, and WOW! Sabrina, those are terrific shots! I remember when I was young and visiting Oklahoma during the summer. We were coming back from church on a Sunday evening and the car windows were down. A giant grasshopper flew through the window and some how landed on me and crawled quickly down the back of my dress! It's a wonder my parents didn't have an accident because I was screaming and jumping all over the place. These things give me the creeps!

When I first got this flower, my cat would not let it alone. Everywhere I moved it, he would find it and chew on it until there was hardly anything left. I thought it was hopeless, but it grew again and bloomed!

That is so lovely!

You know I have barely seen the moon here with all the rain we have been having. It feels like swampland!

Boy, I will second that from South Carolina. It's been nothing but T-storms and pouring rain since the 1st of July! And on top of that it's 89% humidity! It's been miserable.

I think it's a gazania , and it's lovely. There's a common name for that particular colourway, I'd have to check me embroidery book for it. Sailor Boy???

I was surprised at how good my phone's camera is! Thanks Sabrina! I googled and saw some pictures that looked just like mine, so I learned a new flower!

Well, now. Gazania grow different colors from the same plant because now I have two in bloom! The yellow flower is Portulacas and the blue are lobelia.

Beautiful photos of your flowers Kathy. The ganzania flower that just came out will turn whiter as it matures. Is that a blue gentian? love those, but haven't been able to grow them here.

Cool photos of the cicadas I hear them a lot, but have never seen them. Now I know what to look for. Susie, love your photos, especially the ones from Arizona. Someday I will go there.

The blue is lobelia. I plant it every year. So pretty.
