Default Photo Challenge #99 ~ Barring the Way {11/3/2010}

I had something in mind for this week, but when I went out to get the paper and go to the butcher's on Saturday morning, I changed my mind .
The challenge this week is Barring the Way - anything with bars or barriers in it. I'd been hoping to get a picture of the level crossing (the railway runs at the end of our garden) but it's been pouring rain for the last two days and I have a bad cold.

The cotonoeaster is along the edge of a primary (junior) school playground, and the the green fence is a football pitch for the kids on the right.

Since I didn't get the level crossing I'm adding one from a canal in Paris from my files .

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN

Great challenge Sabrina. This shouldn't be too difficult for me.....every road around here seems to be under construction and barriers set up blocking lanes of traffic. I'll get on it as soon as I get settled at home again. I just arrived home frpm a trip to Texas to spend time with the grandsons.

I will have to make a trip to where my parents are buried...there is a super cool gate at the entrance of the cemetery. I will get there sometime...and will then post the pic...Taishea

I'm finally getting a chance to post some photos to this challenge, and seeing as SCS will be down for maintenance for awhile tomorrow, I will also post our next photo challenge tonight.....it'll be #100....cause for celebration!
My first photo is not really of bars, but barriers none the less. The cones are blocking off lanes of the highway in town. Second photo is of the barrier in our work cafeteria at night....obviously, no night service!

The cafeteria shot is way cool - just the sort of thing I was thinking of and full of atmosphere.
And what do you know - Canadian cones are different to Irish ones .
Now I'll have to keep an eye out for some of ours.

Default A little less wind, please.

Sabrina and Ina: Bar none, your pics are great. This is my daughter in a 'cage' being elevated to the top of a windmill for its annual oiling. The bars on the cage are to keep her in whereas most bars keep us out. lol She has much more courage than I do.

More courage than me too! I used to be fine with heights, but somewhere in my twenties I lost that head. It's a fantastic silhouette shot.

Bittybadger, I absolutely love that photo of your DD.....I love the black and white approach to this silhouette shot and the subject and framing are perfect.
Armadillo, your photos are great too. Lovely gate and the biosphere is cool.............it certainly qualifies!

Oh, the biosphere definitely qualifies. I like both those shots.
It's a great way to see the world and travel virtually .

Welcome Kimyjo!
O.K. when you go to post a comment, there are two little oblong boxes along the bottom that say 'Post quick reply' and 'Go advance' Click on the 'go advanced' and there will be a grey bar with a lot of icons. click on the one that looks like a paper clip (it's to the right of the smiley face) It will open up a brand new box that says 'manage attachments' click on the browse button and you can browse the photos on your computer and they click 'upload' when finished, the browse box will become blank and you can repeat the process, if you have more than one photo to share. But the maximum is 3 photos. Good luck and if you have any more problems, let us know. I'm looking forward to seeing your picture.

It's a windy showery day, but I walked to the sorting office this morning to pick up a parcel, careful timing it so that I'd be at the railway station when the barriers were down .
I got caught on the way back too, that's the third photo.

Thanks Yellowrose46 for the help - let's try this again. This is an old loading chute on my parents farm. I thought it was pretty appropriate for the barring the way theme. Thanks for looking.

Great shot Kimyjo! YOu got a wonderful angle, showing the sun shining through the trees and the misshapen fence and blue of the gate!

i've never posted a photo on here so i'm not sure if this is going to work. (but if it does, this is a picture of my adorable nephew, looking through the couch where his older brother removed the pillow)

Under the reply box, hit on Go Advanced.
Then in the Additional Options there is a bar that says Manage Attachments.
Click on that, and it offers two options - for you to upload from your PC or from a URL, which should work with your link. I hope so - I'd love to see the picture.

Cool barrier Sabrina. I see you've got lots of snow. We had about 1/2 inch and it's all gone today, due to a warm rain.
