Default Photo challenge #92 'Water Towers' {Sept 14, 2010}

Last fall a SCS member requested photos of water towers to put together a scrap book for her child. At that time I did take a few water tower photos, but since then I have seen some interesting towers. I often did not get a chance to photograph them, but I did manage to get some local shots. It will be interesting to see what you can all come up with! Whether they are from a bygone era and falling down, or whether they are brand new and shiny, wheter they carry the name of your community, your city or an industry, we'd love to see them all!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN

My photos: #1 the older water tower in our town.
#2 The water tower of the largest industry in town (it employs 540 people and has sales of around $200 million a year
#3 On the outskirts of a town near us. I like the orange lettering to depict Orangeville

Default Photo challenge 92

One more.........we were on our way home from a cottage on labour day weekend and saw this water tower lit up.

Sabrina is on vacation in Greece (lucky gal!) I am prepared to take the challenges these two weeks, but I wonder if any one of you would like to do the photo challenge for a week? Send me a p.m. and I'll help you set it up.

We have two water towers in our little town. Yes, two towers. One is an old one that sits right in town by the library. Why it's still there I don't know. I took a picture of it last winter when we had a good icicle storm.

Our new tower is right outside of town on the Middle School Property. The first picture I took of it is from Thursday evening when my son was playing flag football as the tower was in the background.

The full picture of it, I took when I went back on Friday to pick up oldest from Cross Country practice. Graham is the name of our School and the falcon underneath is our mascot. And then of course the town, etc.

Amber.....I love your pictures! Love the tower with the icicles.....the angle makes it so much more interesting! Love the evening photo, and it's great to see the same tower in daylight.

I found some water towers in California.

This first one is a 3000 gallon tank that was built in 1877 on the Pfeilier Ranch in Oxnard. It was moved into a small historical area in town and was hard to get a nice photo of that included the entire tower so here's two.

Some more California water towers:
The one with the flag is located in Anaheim.
The McDonald's tower is found in Buena Park.
The Pixley tower is about 46 miles from Bakersfield, they put that one to work with the satellites.

Thanks for the challenge Ina, I had fun with it, you had some great photos and so did Amber, loved the icicles!

Roxie, I love your photos! I always love seeing the old towers, but they are often difficult to photograph due to trees and newer buildings blocking the view. You did a great job....I love the angle upward. Love all the other towers you found on your vacation too. I trust you are having/had a wonderful time!

Wow, those are amazing. Nothing like we have here... I didn't find any in Greece, and the one near us is just by the motorway so it's pretty much impossible to stop and take a picture. But I'll keep looking.

Last night at my son's flag football game, the sunset was amazing. Here is another shot of the water tower and if you look closely in the left hand corner, there is the old water tower that is in town! (I didn't realize I had it in the shot)

Fabulous sunset.
The only real water tower near us is on the motorway so you can't stop.
My next best offering is this one which is a leftover relic from the old days when trains needed water. It's a kind of water tower, isn't it? And the heavy leaden grey skies we've had this week really suited it.

Amber, that sunset is awesome! I love t he way the water tower is silhouetted on the photo.
Sabrina, I love the history your photo represents. I would never have know it used to be a water tower. That's the beauty of Europe....there is so much history! We here in North America, think something that is 200 years old is ancient, but when compared to Europe, that is relatively young!
