Default Photo challenge #85 Beat the Heat {07/13/10}

Photo challenge 85....Beat the Heat. How are you, your family, and friends beating the heat. Sorry if there are any photographers in the southern hemisphere who want to join this challenge. I realize it is winter there now. But here, in Southern Ontario, Canada, we are having a heat wave.
Angie is still MIA. I pray that she is not going through a rough time. I have again taken the liberty of posting a challenge. So, lets see your 'cool' photos! I haven't got a recent photo for this one yet, so I am posting a couple of old photos and I'll have to get out with my camera and do this challenge too!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!

My photos. The theme here seems to be water. But there are many other ways to stay cool too!

No, I'm the photographer......those are my friends, relaxing in the water last summer and the kayaker is my friend's daughter. Now I need to go out and take current photos.
Yes Sharon.....take one, two or three photos and post them in this thread (maximum you can add to one post is 3). We'd love to have you join the photo challenges. Angie used to post them once a week, but she has been unavailable for awhile now, so seeing as Sabrina and I had previously posted challenges for her, we have taken the liberty of posting a challenge every two weeks.

I'll have to think about this. It may not be the Southern Hemisphere here, but our heatwave is over, we're back to rain again. But goodness, when my BIL said it was 0 Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) in Sydney recently, I couldn't believe it. I shall find something - even if it's only the fact that I've got to make icecream today to use up some egg-yolks!

OK, a bit of lateral thinking and here we are.
The custard is now cooling in the fridge - if it's going to be vanilla I'll churn the icecream tonight, but if it's rum and raisin I need to soak the raisins overnight.

The fan, I can't remember where we got it. Either Barcelona or Paris. Either way, I've displayed it on a genuine 1940's Dior New Look dress which belonged to my mother.

Instead of clicking on post quick reply click on go advanced, scroll down to and click on manage attachments then you will be able to browse. Click on the file name you want then you should be able to click on upload or down load or something like that. You are able to load three images per post. Once you do that click on done and viola you image(s) should be attached with your message. Hopefully I gave you all the correct information.

And BTW thank you armadillo! It worked as you see!
Here are two pictures that I took at a pool party last night. Only they are not of the pool. They are of a waterfall in the yard. I liked it. I think this is the view looking down, and then one looking back up. This woman had an amazing backyard. Just a normal size house. But wow! decks, seating areas, and of course a pool. I did not swim because too hot and humid. I went back in the a/c house after I took these pictures!

Yeah, I don't know for sure about the water tornado. But she had two two litter bottles and turned them over together so water went from one to the other and then swished the bottles around : then she had a water tornado.
Not sure what else is involved! she was just so prowd of it! I had never heard of it or seen it before. I thought it was neat.

I googled the bottle tornado and this is what I came up with, if you want to try it with your kids.
Tornado in a Bottle

Materials

* 2 clear plastic large soda bottles
* Tape
* Water
* Food coloring (optional)

Directions

1. Fill one of the bottles three-quarters full of water.
2. Add a couple drops of food coloring.
3. Invert the other bottle so that it sits on top of the first bottle with the openings together.
4. Wind the tape tightly around the necks of the bottles so that no water can leak out. The top bottle should be securely balanced on top of the bottom bottle.
5. Now, hold the bottles with two hands and swirl the water around.
6. Turn upside down and watch what happens.

The one picture is of my DS looking for petosky stones on the river bank and the other was our first attempt at taking the boat out fishing. The sun was shinning and the skies were blue when we got on the water and then the rain came down. Lets just say that we got cooled off quick.

Thanks Ina for the Tornado in a Bottle instructions. That looks like fun!
I wonder if it could somehow be managed into a science fair project. Hot water vs. cold water perhaps. Don't know how to measure the results, but it might be interesting just to try it. Thanks again!

Happy Stampin' & Scrappin',
Diane

Unless you used boiling water and taped real fast, your hot water would be cold or close to it by the time you are ready to shake the water but that is just my opinion and I don't know a heck of a lot.

I'd never heard of Petoskey stones - this thread called for a lot of Googling .
Like Ina, I love the framing in that one.
As for the rainy one - looks like a typical Irish scene, LOL.

Default Photo challenge #85

O.K. I haven't uploaded any current photos, so here goes. The first photo is of a sculling crew on the water. It was raining, so I'm sure that cooled them down. The second is of a little chipmunk who found the coolest spot was in the dog enclosure.

Fun challenge! While the kids were swimming, I asked them to make big splashes and I tried to time it just right to take pictures of the water going up into the air. They were cooling off while having fun! Thanks for the idea; it inspired me to get some fun pictures. ~~Diane
