Default Photo challenge #83 {06/15/10}

Photo challenge #83 Road side finds.
I have not heard from Angie and she has not replied to my p.m. I know she has been dealing with her father's health issues, and computer problems, as well as going away. So, seeing as we missed last week, I am going to be so bold as to post another challenge. What can you find along the roadside.......weeds, little creatures, junk, you name it. If you see something interesting along the roadside this week, lets see a photo!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!
Oh, yes, I still have to go out and take my photo, so it will be in an upcoming post!

I just went out for a short walk to get started on this challenge. All the photos I took were within 3 feet of the road, except the pig.....he was about 5 feet from the road.

You found some neat things along the road. We have had rain daily for a week so I should be able to find some clean things to share..lol Even 'Queen Annes Lace' is a beautiful weed right now.

Love this challenge. I walk every day and I entertain my twitter followers with pictures of my shoe next to interesting things on the ground, so I was happy to see this.

In our oak trees here we have this parasite called ball moss. Sometimes it gets really big, like this one.

When I see them on the ground I call them tree urchins because they look like sea urchins

I took this with my Hipstamatic camera app for my Iphone

Along the roadside challenge did yeild some pretty flowers. We have had a lot of rain recently and it shows. Notice, there is no dust on the leaves...lol

Lydia, I love your moss and the cool effect effect that app makes on the photo. Great idea of showing your shoe!
Bitty badger, love the bug you caught on the daisy and the lovely white yarrow flowers.

I was just thinking of pm-ing Angie - but if you've tried and got no answer, maybe I'll just pop a thinking-of-you card in the post instead.
I'll try to find something along the road tomorrow.
That pig is fun - I like quirky sculptures like that.
And that ball moss - I've never seen anything like that here!
It's all poppies along our roadsides these days, but not so much where I walk.
Thanks for posting the challenge, Ina - sorry I missed it, I'd sort of given up checking.

I was out walking tonite and happened upon this gorgeous weed. I just remembered that years and years ago my Mother made some wild flower centerpieces for a freind and one of the items was this Puff-Ball. When she found it along the road, she sprayed it generously with hairspray and then cut it off to take home. I think I'd like to try that too. haha I have some of that hairspray that acts like thin varnish!

Goodness!! That is gorgeous!!

And honey - hairspray WAS varnish when I was in high school and living in the extremely humid town I grew up in. Aqua Net was as good as a flak jacket!

Oh Blue, that is so funny about the Flak Jacket Aqua Net. My daughter reminded me that my Mom used to take the kids with her to find these weeds. After makiing them inflexible (haha), they would take them home and then spray them with different colors of paint to make pretty arrangements. Armadillo, I don't know what they are called but they grow to about 2-3 feet tall and were nestled with the other tall weeds. That one little weed sure did bring back a ton of good memories of long ago.

It does look like a dandelion, but if it's two foot tall plus, it must be something else with a similar head. I know we've seen ones in Greece that sort of height. I was wondering, because if it had just been a dandelion I'd have thought the spray from the can would be enough to dislodge the seed heads, but those bigger ones are a bit tougher .

I don't know what kind of plant that is, but I saw lots of those fuzzy seed heads two weeks ago, when I went for a walk with my DD in Toronto.

I haven't done very well this week.
So I am cheating by including a photo my husband took last week of a swan and cygnets. Never mind being just beside the road - the nest was also half way onto the footpath along the canal.

My own less interesting contributions are just a plaque on a wall and a ventilation brick.

Love the helmet the pig is wearing, Ina, and Lydia, love the tone and creative view of your shot.

BittyBadger, I have always loved the vivid color of flowers and green backgrounds, great job.

Sabrina, the swan & babes are so sweet (even if your dh did take them) and love the lines on the grill.

Great pictures, everyone!

"Most people are much more unusual and complicated and eccentric and playful and creative than they have time to express."
-- Oliver Herring

Here it is!! I think it was the hardest picture to get ever... laying on my stomach in a muddy field, three feet from a rushing stream on the left, my head two inches from electric wire on the right - and the road no more than two feet from the fence!! Strange looks, mosquitoes, wet jeans, and this is the result. (the really observant people will notice that's a guardrail in the very top of the right hand corner...)

Hope it's good - if you want to view it larger and better... visit the flickr photo page.

Hugs!

Hannah, I love your daisies photo! It's so soft and dreamy, when it reality, the taking of it was anything but dreamy. We photographers are an unusual bunch, risking so much for a good shot. My DD got right into the riots in Toronto on the weekend for some great shots, but at one point, she was almost run over by the riot police!

Wow! Lydia and Lynn...............my son is probably between you two. He's just off Wells Branch Parkway within view of !-35. I go to visit him about 4 times a year.
