Arrow Photo Challenge #56 ~ Mission: Purple {10-26-09}

Your mission this week, should you choose to accept it, is to find and photograph something PURPLE! When you stop and think about it, purple is one of those colors that you just don't see in large quantities in nature. So seek out some purple this week, whether it be out in nature or man-made...

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

Here are two purple plants that I happened upon recently. And then the Purple People Eater... can't leave him out!

I should take my camera to school and take a picture of one of our teachers. Her favourite colour is purple and she wears it all the time.

Pretty flowers Angie...love that purple people eater too!

I found a couple for the purple challenge today, Salvia flowers and I think Mr. Mallard knew it was a purple challenge this week because he raised his wing to show his purple stripe while at the park today.

A bit tongue-in-cheek here. I did see a great purple window display when I was shopping on Thursday, but I was rushing...
The WT challenge this week was to use purple. I think I need to look up a bit more about taking a photo of my monitor - it's a bit lined. Something to do with the refresh rate, I presume. I tried 3 different shutter speeds, and this is the best - a shot of some of the gallery .

It was tough finding something purple, but once you really start looking, it suddenly comes to you......my favourite winter sweater, butterflies on a neighbour's cottage

Gorgeous floral shot. What are they? They look like peonies, but surely it's too late for those.

I remember having awful problems with this challenge when it was first posted.
I don't know if it's something to do with the particularly hard winter we had, but all over the place in lawns and grassy areas I am seeing big patches of this little wildflower - self-heal / Prunella. I remember seeing it a lot in fields as a child, but I've never seen it so abundant in lawns before.

Pretty little flowers. The Texas Laurel/sage are blooming so I'll have to go out and do some purple photographing. Apparently I wasn't aware of this challenge or forgot.

Those almost look like little violets, Audrey. I don't recognise them, they must be native to you.
Love the echinacea - I've never seen that many insects on mine!

Other than being a tubular flower I have no idea as to what they are or if they are native to Arizona. I have sent the photo to a few friends who might know the name. Might send a photo to the Botanical Garden; I would think they would know.

I've been without my computer for a few days and now catching up. The Botanical Gardens said my neighbor's purple flowers are Ruellia brittoniana or Mexican petunia. Originally they were not native to Arizona but now are.
