Arrow Photo Challenge #54 ~ Let's play with... {10-11-09}

First off, big thanks to Ina for hosting last week's challenge while I spent the week visiting family and friends in PA! I had a fabulous time!!

Now this week, let's play with our camera settings! Things like Black/White, Negative, Sepia, Color Enhancing or Photo Frames just to name a few! All right who had some cool settings on their camera but hasn't ever used them? Or maybe ya just never noticed them before! Seems like almost all digital cameras come with at least a few of these and now it's time to try them out! If you're not sure what your camera can do or if you know it does it but you don't know how, it might be time to bust out that camera manual or google it!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

I always find myself drawn to the Sepia setting the most! The second photo was taken with a red tint and the last is a fun frame.

That sepia tint bridge looks as if it could have come out of a magazine 70 years ago. Lovely!
I do have a few B&W photos, but it's about the only option I've used. Except for a bunch of accidental High-key ones...I know my little pocket camera has a whole lot more fancy frame and calendar stuff - I'll check the battery is good and explore them while I'm travelling on the train today.

Hmmm - I walked the long way round to my aunt's house the other day - after being to the health-food store and the off-license, so I could have done with the more direct route because my backpack was heavy and full. And I didn't really get any photos worth sharing from that part of the day.
But the Train Travel one I took on my way out, and used one of the in-camera frames. I just added the text in GIMP.
And the B&W one I took on Friday evening - it's the Papal Cross in the Phoenix Park, which was erected when John Paul 2 visited in 1979. I thought the stark outline would work ok without colour.

And OK, it's not any unusual button other than RAW, but the American Embassy is just across from the Papal Cross, so I thought I'd stick it in for extra interest .

Sabrina those are really neat! The cross looks awesome in B&W and the travel frame is too really cool! And the embassy is beautiful! You know Dún Laoghaire sounds really familiar to me. When I was visiting Ireland with my parents in high school my dad broke his arm (long story) and I think the hospital he went to was there. I'll have to ask my mom.

Lovely photo, Silvia - the black and white really focusses attention on the bride and groom. All the guests dresses can sometimes be distracting.

There is a hospital in Dun Laoghaire, so it's quite possible it was where your dad could have been, Angie. It's one of the two ferry ports in Dublin, so if you also remember a pier and harbour, then that's it for sure.

Arggh! Just downloaded my photos and my server reset the page, lost it all. Ah well, I will start over!
I love your photos, Sabrina. Love the cross and embassy, and the suitcase frame is great! I have a frame feature on my really cheap digital, which I never use, but not on the point and shoot that I use all the time.
Silvia, I love those black and white wedding photos too!

I've removed these small photos and uploaded them in a later post. Last Thursday, my friend Melissa and I drove to Buffalo for a Hobby Lobby sale on nesties. Of course, they were all sold out! But we managed to spend $$ anyway. On the way there, we stopped along the QEW at Jordan Road, where an old abandoned ship is resting. I've featured it before in one of the challenges, but it is just such a great old ship to photograph! The first photo is black and white, the second, sepia.
Oh, did I mention it was cold and windy?

I can only see tiny pictures of the ship even when I click on them . I'll have to try again on the upstairs PC where it's easier to make things bigger. The photo reminded me of a trip we took up the river Fal in Cornwall, where there were some ships that had been impounded and were just anchored there getting rusty slowly.

Sabrina, the reason you can only see tiny photos, is because that's al there is! I made a mistake and made them too small in my camera. I will try to post them again. I used to have a feature on my computer that made my photos smaller for electronic transfer. However, when I had the computer in the shop, I lost that feature and now have to make my photos smaller in the camera and I made them too small. If I didn't do that, I would only be able to upload one photo and it would take forever, as I am on dial-up.

Here are my photos, a little bit bigger! Hey, that's another feature of my camera........making photos smaller! First shot was done in cerulean color (I think that means blue), second is normal color, third is sepia.

Thanks for uploading them bigger - especially on dial-up. Sheesh, when we moved and I had to use dial-up temporarily I just disabled images altogether. I like the blue one best . With a third monotone one you'd have a lovely triptych for a wall.

Thanks! I got a lot of other gorgeous photos that day too! That is just such a scenic spot. Here is a photo of the skyline of Toronto, taken from that spot.
