Arrow Photo Challenge #50 ~ The Mighty Macro {9-13-09}

Woohooo!!! This week's challenge is probably hands down my favorite! I love shooting closeups of just about anything in macro mode. Macro photography is close-up photography that shows the extra fine details of an object. And if ya want to get very technical ‘macro photography’ is actually when an image produced where your subject is captured by the image sensor, being life size or bigger with a 1:1 ratio. But don't worry you don't need a SLR with different lens to do this. If you have a point and shoot camera the macro setting it usually a little flower symbol. Have fun and play around with it!!!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

Here is some icey detail and a fuzzy bee.

I'm not sure if these count, they definitely aren't as great as yours, but I tried to get as close as possible, plus I love showing off my baby Gidget!

Angie, I love your bee shot. He looks like he'd sting you a good one if you messed with him...good thing you let him beeeee.

Annburke, your Gidget is just too cute. What an adorable little face.

Connie, great shot of the dragonfly. We have some of the same ones here and they don't sit still for very long.

Here are a few I took. I felt bad for the grasshopper, this afternoon in the excitement catching the him, my 2 yr. old stepped on him. I didn't include the part that was squished out the back.

The bee I took a few weeks ago. I was trying to get a good view of the pollen covered legs.

I really like to take macro pictures.

Here is one that I took the other day of some Sunflowers that my daughter grew.

I really like seeing all of the other photos.

Annburke and dee54 I really like your photos.
Shelly, love your grasshopper. Very crisp!
Becca, your middle rose is just beautiful. Great bokkeh!
Here is another of my experimental photos. It's of a "dewdrop" on a stem...with flowers in the middle of the dewdrop. I need to play a bit more to make the water more clear and the image in the dewdrop less blurry but I love how this photo turned out.

I took these as soon as I saw the challenge but just didn't get them uploaded. The Autumn Joy Sedum is a much deeper pink from a few days ago due to the cool weather.

Mr Green Bug was taken through the UV protected window so it might be a bit hazy but he was just so cool with the macro.

Thanks for the challenge Angie!

Angie that bumble bee is a great photo, so bright and clear.

Ann your Gidget is a cutie.

All the bugs and flowers are great shots and I like the waterdrop Connie.

I have been so impressed by everyone's shots that I had to go out and take a couple myself. The little white flower in the center of the bouganvillea are the plant's flowers. The pink petals are called bracts. I know. TMI lol. The second flower is a spider mum. Enjoy.

I posted these on the birthday thread but I'll post them here as well.
They are of the fluff left on thistle bushes after the flowering is done.

Thanks, Ina!! The flower is actually the chives in our garden flowering because we haven't been cutting them to use in our recipes.

All these photos are absolutely beautiful. I'm not sure why but it seems like flowers just beg for a macro. Hope you like this one.

kjmom,
I have a nikon mounted Tamron 90mm and it is great!!!! It does not have vibration reduction but in macro we should turn it off anyway because the camera should be on a tripod. What I like about it is that it is a great lens, first, and it was much less expensive than the nikon or sigma lenses.
Hope this helps.

That corn on the cob makes a wonderful macro shot. I like the white kernels - are they unripe or just a different coloration? It doesn't really grow here except as a fodder crop.

In the United States, one can buy white corn. I believe it is sweeter than yellow. Sometimes it comes all white on the cob and other times a mix of white and yellow.

I am liking the macro but still getting used to it. It is certainly different from a gazillion years ago. I did take a bunch more yesterday at the Botanical Gardens and was a bit more happy with the results.
