Arrow Photo Challenge #43 ~ Select a Subject {7-19-09}

Ok I'll admit, I've been putting this off! But I can't forever! For me one of the biggest challenges I have with photography is people. I'm totally comfortable taking pictures of anything and everything else but when it comes to people I find myself at a loss most times and so I avoid them. It's something I've been working on recently but even still we'll come back from a get together with friends/family and I'll have 500 photos of nature, landscape and whatnot but only like 5 with people in them! I've been know to wait what seems like hours for everyone to move out of frame to take a clear pic of something! So this week we're doing people pics. Portraits, close-ups, facial shots, upper body shots, groups - whatever you like best or try something new! They don't have to be posed either as candid and natural are sometimes nicer. Now I need to get myself going on this!!!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

So I don't have many favorite people shot but these two are ones that I really like of my nieces and nephew. I think the angles make them fun!

Default People...

I saw the challenge and thought about it...and decided to use some of my fav shots of people I just happened to take pics of. I dont know them at all, I was taking pics at my sons try outs for the National Exposure Camp.
The first one is of this darling little toddler whom by the looks of it will be one of the next basketball stars! The second is of a boy who I just thought the shot was beautiful. The third was a group of boys and the way they were all just standing there..looking the same direction was awesome.
I love to take photos of people, but I prefer it to be kind of random..unless of course they are my children...lol!
Enjoy!

Yikes!! I hate taking pictures of people. OK, I've done family weddings, that's fine. But in work one day recently when I was taking shots of the city through the window, someone else was snapping us all, and annoying quite a lot of people who didn't want their pictures taken, thank-you very much. Someone commented afterwards on the fact that I least I hadn't been taking pictures of everybody all the time.
But even if it's DH, I'll come up with something for this!

Default A couple more!

Here are a couple others I especially like. The first one is of a little girl I have come to know at my sons basketball games. Her name is Bryce. We became friends as "Dad" would much rather have been watching the game...lol So we started "hanging" out together at games and practices.
The second one is very poignant..
On the last day of school a few weeks ago, just 15 minutes after school let out, my sons friend Josh, a sopohmore... was in a fatal car accident on his way home. Our whole community was deeply saddened and devastated by his tragic loss. I went to the memorial site that the teenagers from school made, and this lovely girl had come by with her friend to leave a sign they made. I asked if they would mind if I took some photos, but promised not to intrude on their private moments. So I shot this and thought it was very special. I made a tribute page for the kids to have so they could remember him.

I love taking pictures of people...not sure that I'm good at it, but I have fun doing it.

Here are a few I took yesterday of my daughter. She's talking with my brother about shopping...one of her favorite things to do. Afterwards she gave a huge smile...it was a good conversation. You'll have to excuse the dirty face, she was eating chocolate.

Great shots, I love that one with the little boy holding the basketball. So precious. The memorial photo is very touching, you captured a great feeling.

I never really thought about it but I think I love photos of people. Candid photos especially. Its more like a moment rather than a photo. And when they look back on them, I hope they are proud of themselves and happy with the pictures. I always hated pictures of myself. I hide behind my camera.

The first is my daughter at field day and the second is at a horse show in April.

Love the pictures. I don't hate taking pictures of people.. I just hate having a picture taken of me!! lol

I just took this of my middle daughter, Allison. She is modeling her 4-H outfit that she assembled. She took "Fun with Clothing" which means she had to take an outfit she already had ( I had made the skirt a while back) and add to it. She used Helmar Gemstone glue for the gemstones and Helmar Wash 'N Wear glue to attach the eyelet. Everything was from my stash! lol The eyelet was actually her late Great Grandma's! Easiest outfit we have put together for 4-H and she got an A on it.

Great photos everyone! Love all the expressions!

My daughter is one of my favorite subjects, and she loves to model (I'm so lucky!!) so I have a bunch of pics of her.

To make it fair here are a couple of my son too. He's harder to take good photos of. If he poses, which he rarely does, I get the fake smile so I have to catch him off guard to get his real smile.

And a few of some people I don't know. Sniping, or taking photos of people you don't know, has always been difficult for me, but the more I do it the better I feel about it. Especially if they are dressed up and putting on a show, like these cowboys. They are part of the cattle drive in the Stockyards of Fort Worth, where they re-inact cattle drives and shoot-outs of the old west. They didn't do a gun battle the day we were there though.

I love to take pictures. But am afraid that sometimes they aren't as good as they could be. This is one of my oldest that I really like, he is looking for pestosky stones in Lake Huron. The other is one of him just lying in the water.

These are 2 of my favorite candid shots. I have one with DD's BF and his horse that's gorgeous but DD has the cd with her. This is a pretty neat addition to SCS site! Makes sense though...can't scrapbook without picturea!

thwacker, your photos are amazing. Your boys are so photogenic! I don't know why you are putting down your photography abilities! My DD is a photographer and she will take a 1000 photos to get 3 or 4 great ones! That's the beauty of digital, it doesn't cost much to do that!

Okay, did as I said and pulled out the ol' lighting and camera today and did some pics! My DD was in a TERRIBLE mood (she's cutting all 4 2yr molars right now) so we definitely got some for the scrapbooks.

Wow, I just never realized how little I take pics of people. I guess when I am at basketball games, that counts as people, huh?
These are just a couple of my favs.
1. I always love the team spin huddles , but this one made me laugh - I think cause they are laughing [what I wouldnt give to hear what they were saying].
2. I also like movement shots, too. I only have my camera about 5 days when I took this, so I was thrilled it turned out this good.

thanks for looking,
Valerie

I just wanted to say that these pictures are wonderful. The one of your son lying down is beautifully done. I love the softness, the tone, and the expression on his face. The lighting is perfect. Having a good subject (as we can see ) can make all the difference. Great job!
