Arrow Photo Challenge #41 ~ Take me out... {7-5-09}

to the BALLGAME!!! This week's mission is to photograph something sports related, whether it be an actual game or just a poster for a team. Our family is totally not into sports, so this is really a challenge for me! LOL! I just don't reach for my camera that much when it comes to things like this. I go more for pretty nature things! Thankfully some friends just took us to a local Mudcats game! Have fun!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

Ouch, that is some challenge. I am totally not interested in sports, even though my grandfather played rugby for Ireland. Hmmmmm....goes off to scratch head and ponder.

Jamie, action in a gymnasium is the hardest thing ever (for me). You should be very proud of your photos! Can you tell me the settings you used?

Jamie, welcome to the challenges! Great action shots on the basketball court. Angie, I love your night baseball scoreboard.
This also will be a challenge for me. I am a hiker, not great for action shots. My favourite ball team is out of town this week, in Tampa Bay. Go, Blue Jays!
I will have to put my thinking cap on, but in the meantime, I will cheat and post one photo I took in March, when I was finally able to bring my Texas grandson to Canada for some winter sports. This should cool down all you southern folks, as I hear it is hot there. Up here, it is unusually cool this summer........today it will get up to 65 degrees, maybe!

I think I have some of those photos (not too old just from last month). My boys do not play any summer sports.

Here is one sport shot. I had a contest to see if the kids on the team could guess who was sliding home. The boy's father nailed it!

Diana, what it must be like to not have a child in sports in the summer *sigh* LOL
I love your lacrosse photos. My kids never played and I am fascinated by it.

Ina, your grandson looks like he is really concentrating on those skis

Lol, that's a great shot! You must have been right down there!
Yes, my grandson really had to concentrate. It was a lot harder than he had anticipated! The only skiing he had ever seen was on T.V. and after all, if Grandma can do it, how hard can it be?

What a shot Lola.....awesome....where were you and what were your settings?
With no kids at home any more summer sports are a thing of the past...but the Feedlot Cowboys roping and barrel racing finals are in town this week so I will see if I can get there to shoot some "sports" photos.

Talking A couple more..lol

Well I wanted to show you a coulpe pics that I took when I first got my camera of my son Jordan playing basketball. I was having such a hard tine with lighting in the gym(the WORSE place to take pics is a gym!) and these two shots turned out so cool..and admittedley quite by accident. Everyone loved them for the silhouette look they had. He is #50 in the black uniform. Maybe Im just a quirky kind of gal who likes stuff like this...lol
Jamie

PS.
"have" to take one sec to brag..we just got notified that he got selected to go to a National Exposure camp to be ranked in the top 100 middle school players in the country!!!!! We just got word today!! Sorry...I was bursting to tell someone!!

Jamie - I can feel how proud you are of your son! Congrats, that's really an accomplishment. I like those shots. Quirky? Me too.

I believe that shot was taken in the AV mode and on continuous shooting. I jab the camera between the spaces of the fence and wish each time I had a pair of wire cutters!!

Well, I did say I was totally uninterested in sports.
I was meeting DH in town after work on Thursday, so here are a sports shop on the corner of O'Connell Street (one of the two main shopping streets in Dublin) and the Liffey, and one of a Guinness rugby ball. Feeble, but the best I can do...

Ok, I am really breaking the rules because my photos are from Nov.2005 I cant help it though.. I am a diehard NY Giants fan and these are my favorite sport-related photos I've taken, even though the quality isnt that great!

Just for the background...we were living in the Seattle area at the time and my oldest son attended a private school for the deaf in Seattle. The Seattle Seahawks(boo!, LOL) pick local deaf children to sign the National Anthem. They get to stand right there on the field next to whomever may be singing it and in all fairness the Seahawks do a great job with the kids!

My son was picked to sign for one of their games and he picked the Giants game for me

The first photo is when my son discovered he was on the big screen, lol.

Here are my two submissions. These are from Friday night's game between the Red Sox and Royals. DH called me snap happy! This was the first time I really got to play with a zoom lens and it took me a few shots to get the correct shutter speed.

The San Diego Chargers did a small mini-practice at the base my dh is stationed at, and I drug the kids down with me to watch. Here are my favorites:

Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I even got a shot of Eck and Don Orsillo. Toronto is a fun city and has a huge stadium. We went up there a few years ago and got great seats. We stopped at Nigara Falls and Cooperstown. Am planning to do that again in a few years with the kiddos.

Come as often as you can! We love to see our American neighbours! And our Rogers Center (formerly known as the Skydome) usually has lots of seats at reasonable prices! Such a fun city too, although right now there is a garbage workers' strike so it does smell a little bit!

The prices we paid for our first baseline seats were great. You can not touch anything like that at Fenway. The only thing I did not like about our trip to Toronto and I know this happens at every park were the Blue Jay fans yelling at us to go home and saying the Red Sox sux. My boys (10 & 13) were getting nervous. My 79 mil told a 20something guy, hey didn't we sweep you in Boston which put you in a 9 game losing streak??? they guy was like ya you did.. hahahaha But Toronto is a beautiful city. Love all the different architecture. I was surprised at all the construction going on around Toronto.

Eck cracks us up when he does the commentating... DH and I have talked about going to different parks to see the Red Sox. We feel it is probably cheaper doing it that way than trying to get Fenway tickets. I went to cooperstown many years ago, you have to be a real baseball fan to enjoy that place. I'm just a so-so fan. Niagara is gorgeous.

We did that the same year we went to Toronto. Two games in Toronto and two games in Baltimore. Camden Yards is also nice- you can bring your food in (at least you could a few years ago). We usually go to Fenway when someone give us tickets. HA!

Back to our regularly scheduled thread.....

Wow - ladies your sports photos are amazing! Such action, depth, color and clarity! I'm almost too embarrassed to put these up, but I don't do sports photography very much, so a volleyball game will have to suffice.

This is my neice and nephew. More pics on my BLOG today:
