Arrow Photo Challenge #4 -Behind Closed Doors... (10-12-08)

Have you ever gone past a closed door and wondered what just might be behind it? It might be a tiny wooden door or a great carved metal door. Or better yet, it just may have a window so you can actually see what's beyond it! Let's go out in search of some interesting and eye-catching doors this week. And the restriction - can't use any doors on or around your own house!

Happy Hunting!!!

Things to remember:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ It's ok if you take 100 pictures or just one, but pick the one or two that you think best represent the challenge to share with everyone, not all 100 though!
~ Share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ Please share photos taken by you.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start the photo challenges at anytime.
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

~ I found this lovely door, around the backside of an old church in downtown Raleigh.

This is going to be a difficult one. That means I'll have to drag my DH out with me again to look for doors! He'll be thrilled. Actually, he might be. I bought several books about photography and he started reading one of them tonight.

Angie- that door is great! I hope I can find something as great to photograph! I'm already thinking of places that might have cool doors!

That's exactly what I did earlier this evening!!! There's a few things I've been wanting pics of from downtown and there's no way this chicky goes wandering the streets without her 'big boy' along, even if it is a safe area! And my DH is becoming a lot more interested as well. Now if only I can convince him about getting a new camera for Christmas, to assist me in my wanderings....

I've never done the photography challenges before. This sounds like lots of fun. I am new to our area here so this is perfect reason to go wandering around the area. Thanks for the challenge!

I'm trying to interest my daughter in attaching some pics for all to see! She is sorta a newbie to phtography. She does work in a photo lab and attends a graphic art and design college. My question is would it be ok for her to post some of her pics here strictly for the feedback? She does manipulate them sometimes ( like black and white with a splash of color). I guess that falls in photoshop stuff. I'm a cardmaker so I have no idea. Please let me know what you think. I don't wear my feelings on my sleeve so be honest. BTW great photos everyone they make me want to run away! Reason....DD-22,DS-13,DS-2 yes I said 2! And one big baby DH!! Just keep clickin' Yall!! Thanks!

Glad you found us! We'd love for her to share her pictures for feedback and she's more than welcome to along in any of the challenges! And photoshopped pics are fun to see. Several of us have posted them.

this sounds like fun and maybe I can get my dh to go for a "date" to go find a door...I am thinking of a couple so maybe he will drive to thier locations with me. he wants us to start a photography business so I think he would like to do the challenge too. hehe

Audrey girl! What a fabulous shot! I love the golden glow given off by the lights! Even though it's night, it gives the church a warm and inviting feel!

Default Hello!

I'm Claudia4's daughter. I'm so glad she showed me this! I think this is a fantastic idea! I love sharing photos, but most of the people I hang around are so boring and don't like my crazy art and ideas. Bleh!

This is a photo of an old screen door of a gallery I went to this past weekend in the middle of no where!! Hope you enjoy!

BTW, I am totally open to any ideas, comments or criticism. I mean, how can one improve without criticism?

Default I found another one!

Ok so this is at the same place where I found the bath tub. (heavy metal thread) This is a door inside the house. I like the way it blurred. I think it adds a mystical feel to it.

Both are really neat pics, Jeanagirl! Love the way the tiles show through the screen on the first pic. And you're right about the second one - that glow gives it the effect of something supernatural about to come through! Is it done in B&W or is it just the lighting? Either way, I likey!! So glad to have you joining in!!

I know technically these aren't of doors, but the first one is of the 'door' that leads into Austria from Germany at the top of a 9,000 ft. mountain...the second is an open door with the Swiss Guard at the Vatican, it just seemed like the door was still 'closed' and secretive! The last picture is of a walled garden taken from the top of the Vatican. This was to show what IS behind the closed door...

{Sigh} I have probably a 1000 great doors (I love to shoot architecturals!) most of them are unsorted negatives .... it would take forever. So - in the meantime ....

Here is one from Italy, in a small mountain top town outside of Rome. The town is Introdacqua (in the L'Aquila region of Abruzzo), the town is literally "the source of the aqueducts".

Well this is not a particularly artistic shot. However, when I saw doors for the challenge I immediately thought of these doors. They are from the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. These were the doors to the courtyard. The filigree and scroll work was incredible!

I took these pics last year when we were walking around a historic part of the town next to ours. The first I'm posting so you can see just how small the door is. It really made me wonder when I saw the door what it was used for.

I love looking at all these door pictures! You've all inspired me to go out and take more from different angles and lighting. Thanks so much for sharing!

Made of gold my friend! With marble and mother of pearl surrounding it! Could you imagine?? It truly was incredible to see how these people lived.

I will have to go looking for doors BUT, can I share some photos I took in Hong Kong in January? I know they are before the challenge but when you mentioned a glimse of what lies behind, I immediately thought of these photos.

The doors were actually open and they led you into a beautiful, unexpected place.
The first photo is the doorway itself, with a glimse of what lies behind.
The second, the beautiful area within
The third, a shot looking back towards the doorway and look what awaits outside in the real world - old and new combined.
These were taken at the Chi Lin Nunnery and Diamond Hill.

Great pics! I'm guessing the little door near the ground is actually a coal shute or something similar, they'd pull up and shovel the coal in there - where its usually got a chute that leads directly to the furnace or boiler.

Whereas the bigger door probably served as a loading dock, the wagon or whatever would pull up and unload.

I'm looking at all these great door pictures and thinking wouldn't it be a neat part of a holiday scrapbook layout to take a picture of the front door of whoever's house you are going to for the holiday?
