I got'em, you got'em, we've all got'em! Yeah, you know what I mean. Those annoying little pests that come out just to bother us when were outside, especially at this time of year. Sometimes they even manage to find their way inside! They munch on our plants and attach to our flowers. Well don't let them drive you buggy! Let's see if we can catch them in the act this week and expliot their dirty deeds on film.

Catch them in the act! That's going to be a bit harder, but I know there are greenfly on my parsley at the moment - have to wash it extra well these days ;-(. And I suppose it's no harm to check my bay tree for those little caterpillars that stick the leaves together, but I'll be happier if I don't find any.

What fantastic pictures. Love the caterpillar and SurfLola's second one. I appear to have harvested all my greenfly along with the parsley last week, so still looking!
YOu guys rock! Love the mantis Lola....... and karrie30 that caterpiller will grow into a beautiful Monarch butterfly if he makes it to chryliss stage.....that is milkweed plant he is munching on it looks like.......or it could be something else...there is a caterpiller that is close to the monarch one that makes a swallowtail butterfly too. both are beautiful! I have no garden so will look for some buggies while at photo camp the next few days....Hope to have some to share when I return.

All the photos are so fantastic. It doesn't take long to find these little creatures. Here are a few of mine. The first one was taken last week at the cemetary, so I am cheating a bit on this one. Next one of an ant on a peony bud. The third is of a dragonfly perched on the outside my neighbour's living room window this morning.
I was cleaning my kitchen windows yesterday and aomething turquoise flew past me. Later, I found it on my (uncleaned) picnic table and it was dead. I wonder what it is? Some sort of beetle?
Ina, your beetle sure is a beautiful color. I love the photos of the bees, dragonflies, ants and praying mantis
I told my husband that I wanted to go to the park and take pictures of bugs. He is a great guy. He drove me to the park and we walked around and he found the bumble bee for me.

Aaghh - I must have picked the only bit of parsley that had greenfly on it. I still haven't found anything in my garden - guess I should be happy! Ina, I love your third picture, and I've seen beetles like your green one in Greece.

Well, at last. When I was watering last night I saw a spider on the bay tree. So this morning, I went out and it was gone - but I found an ant and greenfly on my gazania. These are really flower pics with incidental insects!

I also found these in the back garden when I was taking some close-ups of flowers just coming into bud. If you look carefully, there is a greenfly on the echinacea stem, and the wispy white thing really is a spider, I promise.
Where are the slugs and snails when you're looking for them!!

Sabrina, I love how your little greenfly looks. That orange behind him really looks pretty. He looks like a little jewel.
We were at a wedding reception on June 20th. The reception was outside and there were flowers on the tables. I happen to see something 'hanging' from the flowers on our table. I tried to catch him while he was still dangling but he was like a child and didn't want his picture taken because as soon as I got my camera turned on, he had made his way back to the flower! But I still managed to get the wedding crasher before he disappeared!
I certainly did not have to use my macro lens for this little garden invader because a telephoto would have been a lot smarter. Apparently he lives under my deck and I get to enjoy his lovely perfume most nights. Pepe le Pu.jpg

Oh, my goodness, Connie! I have a groundhog living under my front step, but a skunk would be so scary! Our dog got sprayed two years ago, and it was no fun! She's a long haired blue merle collie.

Ina,
I'm just glad I don't have a dog. Most of the neighbours do, though.
This little cutie (he is really small) stinks to high heaven. The smell actually wakes me up during the night.
My dh was working in the garden, came to the door, and told me to bring my camera outside. There was Pepe le Pu waddling around the yard in broad daylight. I tried to get some other photos but he kept hiding on me. I took this photo standing on the edge of the deck and he just waddled right under me and into his den. Now, how do I get rid of him, cute as he is?

I just downloaded pictures that i took of my garden this week. Imagine my surprise when I opened this picture and saw the bug on the leaf! Didn't even noticed it when i was taking it!
Ok..well this one isnt a pest per say...but its outside in the garden and it as just so sweet to keep posing for me to take pics. It just kpet flittering off and then coming back and posing again! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

You could try trapping him. My SIL has a trap that has a door that closes after the animal. She caught a skunk once while trying to catch a groundhog. In order not to get sprayed, throw a tarp over the cage to keep it dark, and then drive it far, far away, and carefully open the door. By the way, don't dump it just east of Fergus!
Found this little guy on some flowers just off my back deck a few weeks ago. I got lots of photos and had time to change lenses twice...stayed pretty still the whole time.
