Arrow Photo Challenge #38 ~ Leading Lines {6-14-09}

This weeks challenge is to keep an eye out for lines, the kind that will lead your eye into the scene of the photo or even lead the eye past the scene and out of a photo. Leading lines can help to divide a photo or to unify, and it draws you into the photo at the same time. Leading lines can be straight, curved, zigzag. Think about train tracks, fences, curved roads, winding stairs. Anything that has a line of sorts that will help to draw the eye in and along it. Enjoy!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

Here are two leading line shots from me. First is the Blue Ridge Parkway cutting through the Smoky Mountains and the second is a walkway through the woods.

I love your pictures! It takes me home because I'm from the Smokey Mtns. I can't wait to get out and take some pictures this week! I wish I could go to the Smokeys to take mine too.

Here are three of my lines photos. All were taken at Sauble Beach. One is my avatar and the other two I took in April this year. (I know we are supposed to get out and do the challenge but these work perfectly) I will try to get out and get some more for the challenge, now that I'm off for the summer.

Angie, great challenge. I just know you are going to get lots of gorgeous photos for this one! Your pics are both great, but the mist on the blue ridge mountains is stunning.
Diana, love the rocks.
Craftygirl, fantastic photos of Sauble! I used to go up there every summer, but now I have a friend with a cottage on Johnson's Bay road (further north!) and spend time with her in the peace and quiet of nature, rocks, water and sun.

Angie I actually took this photo for the T challenge but I think it really fits what this challenge is looking for.

I put the camera right on the rail to take the photo and the line draws the eye right into the mountian scene.

Wow, that mist is amazing. And Roxie - yours is fantastic, love the shine from the metal track.
Some of my bridge ones had leading lines, but I'll try to find something new for this week.

I had some trouble finding something interesting to take a picture of, but I tried.
Sorry the pictures aren't very sharp; I don't have the greatest camera.

I just LOVE Sauble. I, too, have been going there for many years. I used to work at the roller rink when I was a teen (during the summer).

Great photos everyone else! There are some amazing photographers on here. Roxy, I like your idea of putting the camera right on the train track.

Thank you, Cordelia. My favorite part of any challenge is how a general suggestion is interpreted - you'll have as many results, as participants. We all see the same thing differently.

I spotted the snail when I went to get the washing this morning and hang it out before going for a walk to try to find a picture.
It's a bit like card styles - I can do things like CAS when I am not trying, but it's such a struggle if I set out to make a CAS card. And while I could fish several great photos with leading lines out of my files, they were thin on the ground today.
This was the best I could do - those boxy hedges are meant to lead you in to the gate in the wall, LOL.

Great photos everyone! I can't read into Angie's mind, but the challenges have really helped me see the beauty in everyday things and to look at the world through different eyes, and I think that was maybe her purpose. Also, it gets us out and using our cameras, learning more about the features, and improving our skills. Lastly, it really makes me want to have a Digital SLR!~

Default WOW!

WoW! I love all the pics! I feel so inspired! I esp like the ones, like the snail, the rail fence, or the butterfly on the toe -- and many others too -- cause it reminds me to keep my eyes open for those little things in life that are so very beautiful -- and to try and have a camera with me all the times (altho that is hard this time of year in AZ cause it is so dang hot!). Thanks for sharing everyone!!

I know its been a while since I popped in here. life has been crazy and still is but by the middle of july it should slow down. I have been traveling here and there some for work some not so going to try to catch up wiht the challenges.

this show was taken on the way to Palouse falls its near a fish hatchery. Its a huge train tressel (or whatever they are called) I don't know why but I really liked how it turned out. the second shot shows you a bit of prospective

Diane I always love a good scene in a forest I feel like I am there
craftygirl the tree in the water shot is cool. the second is my favorite
roxie I love how clever your shot is
cordelia fences are great line shots. The second one with the dark edges is a great effect
valarie love the bleeding hearts that is a very original line and the river is lovely
sabrina the snail is awesome not only the snail trail line but the ground itself has lines.

Love these shots, Laura! I like the first picture--the line seems to be leading right into the sky.

The action in the 2nd park one (first post) is great, but I just love the third one - the little child in the distance looking so small, and the great wide lines of the path and grass.

Here are a few of mine........
The first photo is of a road I travel almost daily, to the end of the pavement. I turn right but the road continues on as a gravel road after the crossroad.
The next two photos are of a road allowance on the outskirts of our town. The same road taken from two sides, the first one with a road closed sign, the second one showing the tracks made by 4-wheel drive pickups who go 'mud-boggin'. I guess you can find red necks almost anywhere!
