Arrow Photo Challenge #22 ~ Wood You... {2-15-09}

Time for another specific material challenge! We've done metal, water, doors, windows - to name a few and now we're on to WOOD. Search and seek out things made from wood this week, not in the form of a plant. Meaning trees, bushes, woody shrubs, branches -yeah those things are all out and off limits!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

Here's a wooden birdhouse I found at the park today and then one of my favorite photo subjects - a old wooden covered bridge.

Awesome photos Angie! I love the birdhouse! The old wooden covered bridge is great too! You must have lots of covered bridges in your area, otherwise they would be keeping this one in better shape. The only one in our area is a real tourist attraction and is kept in tip top shape. It's a real treat to see Mennonite buggies going over that bridge.

Haven't had time to go outside looking for something fun.
In the meantime, here is the toy box I recently got for my

They need toys too

I drove over to the museum on post here and took some pictures of this "two rail" fence that they have. I did some color shots and some black and white shots. I love shooting in Black & White.

Here are some shots from the progress around our house. I'd posted shots of wood studs in the "Around the House" challenge. You'll see a big difference in these photos.

Everyone's photos are marvelous! Lisa, so glad to see how your house is coming along! It's beautiful! Love the kitchen, and so wonderful that you have dedicated a craft room already.
Barbie, cool dog toy box!
Sharon, great fence photos. I love the black and white one!
Laura, love your birdhouse pics. When I told my SIL (who is a great photographer) about the 'wood' challenge, she suggested her birdhouses.

I decided against the birdhouses, when I took this one. We took my daughter to the Buffalo airport yesterday and on the way home we detoured to go along lake Ontario (on purpose to take these photos) Along the beach is a burned out ship that had been grounded many years ago. I don't really know the story, but have seen it there every time I drive along the QEW highway. As soon as I saw this side of the ship, I knew this was my 'wood' photo.

I took some photos at work this morning and when I get home I will upload them.
Well here they are. One is a wood-working my aunt made. It's displayed in the hallway at the school I work in.
The other two are photos of a table our grade 12 wood shop class made for a collegue of mine who lost everything in a fire.

Yellowrose, Thanks for your comments. I was just wondering if this is the boat that's close to St Catherines? I have seen this one many times. By the way, I live just south of you, in Guelph.

This afternoon, I went for a walk along the cottage road close to where I live. I got a lot of great shots. Thanks so much Angie, for opening our eyes to photo opportunities! Here is a series of outhouse photos.

That's right Connie! I had driven past that one so many, many times, but finally got a chance to stop and take photos. Great to 'meet' a neighbour!

One more outhouse. And a bird house. After all, that was my original plan.........to photograph a birdhouse. Being Canadian, we are not big flag wavers. We are just as patriotic as our neighbours to the south, we do it in a quiet way and just don't show our colors as much. But today, I saw several flags! The middle photo is the sign on the outhouse door. By the way these phots were all taken within a 10 minute walk from my house.

These are my wood photos. The first is a wood shack near the trucking business where I work. The second is two old wagon wheel spokes. The third is a chair in my office.

Ina, i know that ship as well - the kid, who lived in St Cath for years and worked at a winery just off the service road, told me the story behind it but I can't remember what he said - it was some sort of tourist idea gone bad i think???

You don't live right in "Faergus" now do you - unless they allow the 1 and 2 holers in town now? Reminds me of our cottage years in Muskoka

Craftygirl - your school obviously has a very accomplished wood working shop - beautiful stuff!

Marilynn, the wagon wheels are great - you don't see those every day now!

Weederberries - thats going to be a real showpiece when it is finished - are we all invited to the house warming?

What a fun challenge this is, Angie! How do you come up with such fun ideas? We are so lucky to have you guiding us!

Angie - Love that bridge - you chose the perfect lighting and a great angle - every effective.

Barbie - what a fun shot! Love the little hitchhikers on the top. (Plus that's a great idea- we've got dog toys scattered all over the house!)

Stampmouse - Love that second shot with the bird peeping around the corner - so adorable. Looks like that birdhouse is well used! How fun to watch!

Sharon - marvelous shots - that fence is very photogenic! I'm especially drawn to the black and white - very appropriate for its content. Beautiful!

LIsa - what a beautiful house you are building. Love the progress from photo one to two! I really like the angle you shot from for that curly railing (I've always wanted one of those!) Beautiful shots!

Ina - what a cool shot! I'm glad you took the detour to share it with us. The ice really adds to the feeling of abandonment. Marvelous! (How long has it been there and why don't they remove it?) Those outhouses are a hoot - how fun!

Craftygirl - great shots! Love the way you captured the wood grain in that wood. That sculpture is amazing your aunt is very talented. (and so are you for capturing it so well!)

MariLynn - Beautiful choices for your wood challenge. That white chair is so crisp against that black background! Love the 2 wheels -makes for such an interesting sculpture!

Can't wait to see more entries!

Joann, I live a few houses away from Lake Belwood, so am 5 miles outside of the fair Scottish town! These were all outhouses at summer cottages, uninhabited right now.

Great wood photos! Seeing all the outhouses in the snow makes me especially thankful for indoor plumbing!

Lisa, I'm so envious of your new house! I bet you can't wait for it to be finished.

Here are some wooden things found on our trip to Florida:

A wooden paddleboat, stocks (wish I had them in my back yard sometimes...), and a pier at Cocoa Beach.

Here are some wooden things found on our trip to Florida:

A wooden paddleboat, stocks (wish I had them in my back yard sometimes...), and a pier at Cocoa Beach.

Lisa, can I borrow your stocks if you get them? They are needed most when the kiddies are off school. KWIM?

Stocks!! Of course! Why didn't I think of that?

I'm calling the builder and having them install a set in each kid's room and one in the back yard for nice weather days.

Do you think he would do a group discount? I'll have a set in each of the kid's rooms, and one outside too. I'm happy to lend them out too, either the stocks or the kids...
