Photo Challenge #21 ~ Got Junk? {2-08-09}

That's right! I said JUNK! We recently went exploring at the local flea market and of course I had my camera along. I couldn't believe how much "junk" made for really neat photo ops! And then that got my thinking.... dangerous, I know! Messy shelves in the basement or garage, old abandoned vehicles, broken glass, furniture that just needs to be trashed! As they say, "One man's trash is another man's treasure!" So don't be shy, show us some junk!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.

Angie, great challenge. I know I can find some junk. I love your first photo of junk. I especially like the license plate with the old photo on it.

This probably a dumb question but I am new to this challenge thing. But when you put 2-8-09 is that the week that ends with that date or is it the beginning date of the new challenge? Thanks. Cool ideas. This will be fun.

Angie, love those photos! Love all the cool items in the flea market photo, and old buildings are real favourites of mine. I have a garage full of 'junk'. It's a two car garage and I don't have room for my car! I have items accumulated from three children moving out and also from my mother's home when she passed away. I always told my parents that the treadle sewing machine was the only thing I wanted from their estate and that my brothers could have everything else. Mom taught me how to sew on that machine when I was in my early teens and I am now in my 60's. When my dad bought the machine for my mom, it was used, so I have no idea of the age.

The date denotes the date the challenge is issued (or supposed to be issued, as is the case this week) Angie usually posts challenges on Sundays. But the challenge is open forever. There is no closing date. You can post photos to this challenge at any time. So, go ahead and check out all the old challenges and post us some fabulous photos!

Another people powered machine lover! I taught myself and my oldest son to sew on a 1905 White treadle machine. (My favorite possession) I am not an expert, but if you pm the serial number, I can give you a good rough estimate.

I love this challenge. I just so happen to have some junk with tall grass growing through it that I thought would make a nice picture. I'll see what I can do.

What a special momento of your mom and your childhood! You did a beautiful job photographing it!

Well, I'm not much of a photographer, but I took a whole lot of pictures and got a few that I like. They didn't really come out on "film" like they did in my mind's eye, but I think they are alright.

What a treasure!

If you want to find out the age of it you can check this website out. Your machine should have a serial # on it somewhere and you just enter the # onto this site and it will tell you the age.

Mine is from 1914.

Oh!! Ha ha. That is my very good friend, Mr. Frilled Lizard. He is about 22" long and made of plastic. He and my my giant friend Mr. Praying Mantis were my travelling companions for many years. They sat quietly on the dash of my truck many long cross country miles, never ceasing to frighten and amuse curious onlookers.

ooo haa haa haa sweet!!!!!! LOVE the leezzaard Arianna! I once had a few plastic snake friends on my dashboard. A chick at the airport terminal once said, 'nice snake.' I got the biggest chuckle out of that. Thanks for bringing back great, fun memories for me with your photos!

ProudMom - you are an INCREDIBLE photographer. The 2nd train track picture on your blog is almost.....haunting? I can't describe it but I was drawn back to it again and again. And I bet the husbands of those beautiful women were happy men.

I took pictures of the pile of "army Junk" that DH has in the garage (a.k.a. all his gear that he doesn't need right now since he isn't deployed). It's the only junk I could find. I actually got down on the floor for this one. (Got covered in saw dust too, DH does his woodworking out there). It's the best I could come up with living in the middle of no where.

junk huh. well the first picture is my stamping area. maybe this will embarrass me enough to reorganize and clean it once again. something I seem todo on a monthly basis.

the next 2 shots are from my curio I have been gifted all of these mini clocks and perfume bottles

Well, I have been going thru everyones "junk" pictures - yup, I got one of those, oh yeah, got one of those too - I have sooo much junk! We have been avid "collectors" for years and have also had to absorb both my mom's and his parents estates so just about anywhere I turn I have collections of what some days is all JUNK!!!
(we really need to get up the nerve to have a yard sale) LOL
