Default Photo Challenge #190 ~ What About "W" {01/15/2014}

I'm sorry - I had every intention of being on time and posting this challenge yesterday. But it was a horrendously grey rainy day when I got home from work, and after my mod shift I decided to go and do the big supermarket shop so that I could enjoy my day off today!
Time for another alphabet challenge. Initially I thought this one would be hard, but once I started thinking I came up with loads of ideas, even though I only took two photos today (plus one from my archives , because finding wagtails isn't that easy!!).
Anything starting with W goes - water, workspace, waves, wrinkles...walking, wings (now there's one I hope to get next week if I can see the cormorants with their wings out to dry!), wellies...

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!
~HAVE FUN

My photos are whisks, wire and a wagtail.

Here are my Ws. The first one are weights then water softener system then water from the faucet, Windex. The 5th and 6th one were made by a former yoga classmate. The yoga ornament represents the warrior pose. The last one is a wooden prickly pear. The Saguaro ornament was also made by the yoga classmate.

Here are more Ws. The first three images represent watches and watchbands. Sadly, except for the Eyore watch, none of the others in the first two images work. I made the macrame watchband in the third image. The next image is a wooden Saguaro made from a cottonwood tree. The armadillo is carved from a piece of Ironwood. The next photo has a Saguaro made from the Saguaro ribs which are actually wood and a friend's uncle carved the boot and hound dog. Next is awooden Santa box for holding Christmas cards and last is a wooden monk.

I forgot my Waterford vase that a friend gave to me when she had visited Ireland.

Wow!! Great photos, armadillo. I love the Snoopy watch .
But the weights and the water shots are super for the challenge.
My favourite wooden ones are the armadillo and the prickly per, I think.
Waterford Crystal - hmm, I think I have a decanter downstairs but it might be more trouble than it's worth to clean it.

I have some witch hazel from my aunt's garden, wellington boots (not mine, obviously!), and waiting for the bus.
The last one is a wooden bird feeder full of water. It was a Christmas gift to my aunt and it's really beautiful - but a bird feeder with no drainage holes in this climate??? She's not sure what to do apart from drilling a couple of holes in it.

Great photos as usual, ladies!

I haven't taken many pictures lately but thought I'd add these two for the challenge.

1. Running water
2. Watching (squirrel)

Sabrina, I thought witch hazel was some kind of ointment or something. Love those boots, they are so cool! Rather strange to make a bird feeder like that with no drainage. She could use it as a birdbath or perhaps plant something in it and sprinkle seeds around it.

The witch-hazel ointment and lotion is made with an extract from one variety of the tree.
When I looked it up, apparently the one that grows commonly in America is sometimes called "winterbloom"?? It has a lovely scent - like so many winter flowers. I guess it needs all it's got to attract bees for pollination, and the flowers can't be too fancy or they wouldn't last in harsh weather.

How did I miss this? I checked on Tuesday morning last week and then didn't check again until this week. Lots of great 'W' photos! A lot of variety for sure. Sabrina, I love your wagtail, willies (here we just call them boots) and wire assortment, Audrey I love all your wood carvings and watches, and Lynn, that running water photo is so well done! I just slipped outside in the cold to take a photo of my wheelbarrow, which I had left outside before the snow came and now can't get out, also the winter wreath which is still on my front door.

Lynn - the water one is amazing, it almost looks like molten metal. The squirrel is cute, too.

Ina - it will be a while before you get to use that wheelbarrow!!My favourite is the wooden shed - I could look at that photo for a long time.

And Audrey, I accidentally posted on a thread in a different section of the forum altogether how beautiful the watch strap with turquoise is. I also really like the other one set with stones, but the turquoise one is really beautiful.

Thanks Ina and Sabrina! Sabrina, I love the little wagtail bird, oh so cute! And Ina, I love the wooden shed photo. Those two are my favorites! (Any thing rustic looking and ones having to do with wildlife capture my attention!)
Recently I joined a daily photo challenge group. I did it to push myself to use my camera more. You post one picture a day according to that day's theme. I'm sure you've heard of those kind of groups. The water photo I posted here is one I did a couple of days ago for that group.

Last night we got some winter weather... a little dusting of snow, sleet and rain. Roads were really icy and there were reports of accidents all over the place. Apparently people don't know how to drive in this type of weather down here. Schools were closed today too which made it nice for families to have a three day weekend. This type of weather down here makes BIG news!

Here's my winter photo... LOL!!

Lynn, are you in Texas? My friend in Austin posted that they had an ice day today. Your barbeque looks cold!

It took me a while before I got to see the cormorants drying their Wings, but last week I did. And in breeding plumage, for an added bonus!!

Wow Sabrina, so many cool shots! I saw a bird similar to this in Texas, but no one knew what it was......maybe it was a type of cormorant.
