Default Photo Challenge 189 'A year in Review' December 31/13

It's New Year's Eve! I can't believe another year has passed! So much has happened in my life this past year! I'm sure most of you can say the same. So our challenge for the last one of the year will be to post our best photos, our most favourite photos, or the most significant photos of the year 2013.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!
~HAVE FUN

My pictures: The first one, taken by my friend on my camera....me skiing about a month before the fall that broke my shoulder. Second one is of a gorgeous view of the river one Sunday morning on my way to church. third is of my oldest DD and my grandson Rocky, who is now 19 months, but then was only 8 months. Fourth one is of a tender moment between my youngest grandson Leif and his great aunt Grace. He was only 4 1/2 months at the time. That brings me up to March. I will be sharing more photos.

A few more of my favs. Of course, with 5 grandsons and one granddaughter, you will be seeing lots of pics of my grandkids!
Photo one.....Grandson Emilio on his 7th birthday....he just loves that covered wagon in the park!
Photo 2....grandson Rocky on his first birthday. Just look at those blue eyes!
photo 3 ....The two oldest grandsons climbing on the arch along the river in town when they were visiting from Texas.
Photo #4 my almost grandson (son of my son's girlfriend) We had a huge rainstorm while they were visiting and the little ones loved playing in the water on the street.
That brings me to the beginning of August.

Great idea for a challenge, Ina. I'll try to pick some out over the next couple of days. I know the highlights in our year were our trips to Corfu and Switzerland.
I really like your two winter ones - the river and you skiing. And the one of your son in the covered wagon.
I think I recognise the arch on the river - you've shown that before, haven't you? And the last shot is just sweet.

We were out with friends yesterday - all 4 adult brothers in the family were together for the day so there were 14 children all queuing up for rides on the new pony - I got a few lovely snaps there.

Great pictures, Ina! Gosh, it's hard to pick a favorite. I really like the river one with all the frosty trees but I do have to say the little grandkids pictures are so sweet and adorable!

I have tons of pictures throughout this past year and it's going to be hard to decide which ones to post. It may take me long time to look through them all but I'm sure (well hopefully) I can post a few before the next challenge.... LOL!!

Some more of my photos.
1) My oldest and youngest grandson in August
2) The favourite of all my sunrise photos of this past summer
3) Cottage life is synonymous with kayaking in my opinion
4) A road trip in the fall resulted in lots of fall colour pictures. This one was my facebook intro photo until last week

OK:
January - first time I've ever seen a waxwing, so although it's not a great photo it was a highlight.
February - a blackbird along the canal, and a shot that actually shows the colour in the waxwings, though it was terrible lighting conditions for shooting in.
March - a squirrel on the feeders in the back garden, and a cormorant in breeding plumage.

April: ventilator hood on the train station, robin in the garden.
May is practically impossible to narrow down.
Here are two from our trip to Corfu: the "local" beach - it was actually probably about ten miles away, but we had a motorbike, and we went there maybe every third day for a day of just relaxing (we did high mileage on that motorbike!!!) , and sunset from our apartment with Albania in the background.

And (blushes, I still haven't finished editing that holiday yet, so it's an incomplete album still) here's a link to other photos that I did edit for my blog. Let me know if it doesn't work - it's meant to be public. If you want to know what they are, go to my blog and they should all be tagged with Corfu!

June - first time we'd had linnets in the garden here.

July - grey wagtail , mating dragonflies and self-portrait - loved the mirror effect!!
August - evidently not a lot happened, but this is a photo of DH and my niece (his goddaughter) bonding over a guitar - although DH's gigging repertoire is mostly from the fifties and sixties, they did find a few songs in common .

Oh - and I loved this shot of a heron just taking off, even if it's not a brilliant photo.

September was our trip to Switzerland, and my word, it looks as if I never even uploaded ONE photo from that to my blog yet, nothing edited.
So - one from Geneva of the fountain in the lake - we could see it from the plane as we flew in to land.
And one from a brief trip up into the mountains as it got towards dusk.

October - DH had 'flu so that took a good chunk out of the month and most of my other photos are all my cards for HYCCT, but we managed a fleeting weekend visit down to Clare.

Poulnabrone Dolmen, and the view from Abbey Hill looking over Galway Bay.

November - I shared most of my photos from Cork already, for the "Houses" challenge. But one morning on the way to work, the low sun was reflecting onto the river in an amazing way, and I took quite a few photos, this gull is one of them.

And not much for December either - here's the Bche de Nol I made for dessert on Christmas Eve as per my sister's request - even though I'd already promised my aunt that I'd bring Bailey's and chocolate chip icecream. My sister brought holly leaves to decorate it, but I didn't get a photo after I'd added them.

I am SO back-logged with editing photos - still stuck back in May. That's not good!!
Sorry for all the birds - I tried to find other photos to mix in with them .

Sabrina, where do I start! Your photos are amazing! I love the bird one....so interesting to see birds we do not have here in the Americas. Your selfie is very interesting. I think it may be one of my favourites. I love your scenery photos too.....a great way for me to travel vicariously. the heron shot is super. I have never been able to get close enough to one for a good photo.
Jan, if you have any interest in photography, you just need to practice and practice, which is much easier now, with digital technology. If you have no interest, that is fine too. To many people photography is just a tool to record family times. for me, I have a burning urge to photography anything beautiful, interesting or memorable. I carry a camera with me all the time!

Our DIL has her camera permanently attached to her hand but mainly for shots of the grand kiddies so she can send them to family, I have a lovely kodak but it's quite heavy to carry around and a sony that's a small one but the zoom isn't too good, I did try taking some photos of the cave houses but we were on he motorway and travelling too fast.
I'll take my camera down to the paseo and take a photo and post it to show you where we live.

What a fantastic idea this is! I have given my mother a photo album for the past two Christmases of a 'year in review' and this year I gave digital frames to other family members with the same. I too take lots of photos of my family (even though it drives them crazy - lol!), but it is a great way to remember all of the things that happen each year, especially those little moments we may forget. Thanks for posting this challenge - I am off to find my favourites.

I remember looking up Edwards Garden when you mentioned it before - it looks like somewhere i'd love. And the ice picture is amazing.

I upload mine with the longer side set at 1000 pixels.
An alternative is to upload the photos to somewhere like Flickr or any other photo sharing site, and then you should be able to share a link here.
In theory I think you should be able to embed them from a Picasa album, but I've never succeeded in that.

This photo was taken just before Christmas in the park near our sons house.
The Dinosaurs were made as the Victorians thought they looked like, the park is part of the gardens from the Crystal Palace Exhibition Centre from 1852.
The massive building made a glass and steel unfortunately burnt down.

Lynn, I've told you before that I wanted to visit it. It seems to be quite a bit out of the way wen I visit my DD, but hopefully we'll take a drive there this coming summer. It looks so beautiful and you have taken a wonderful photo there. That storm really damaged a lot of mature trees like the one you photographed. I love your sunset photo. You do have a great view! Are you east or west of the DVP

Just a few more to finish off last year.
We enjoy our time at a friends cottage so much, and the camera is constantly at hand. First photo is of my friend's daughter and her DH coming in from a kayak trip at dusk.
The second photo is my favourite picture of my friend. I would challenge anyone to correctly guess her age!
Third shot is one I took at my nephew's wedding. A beautiful oasis in the middle of a city (Kitchener)
Last is a photo that shows the sunny nature of my youngest grandson.

And two last ones.
1) A neighbour's blue birch tree after the ice storm that caused us to be without power for 87 hours. That tree is now totally upright again.
2) The crowning glory of the year. My first granddaughter born November 4, 2013!

Amazing that the tree just bent and didn't break, Ina.
The kayaking looks so peaceful.

Jan - that looks like a fantastic place for kids, I bet they love it!

Ina, gorgeous photos, your grandson sounds like Charlie, I think they are only a week apart, he's such a Happy boy, always giggling but we think he will be very mischievous like his grandad.

I love to look at your photos of snow and ice but so glad we don't get any here on the southern coast. We did once get snow, looked quite strange with snow on the palm trees but it only lasted half an hour before it melted.

Lynn, that is a great shot of the tree. I took a lot of photos too. It was such a newsworthy event and so much beauty, especially on the day the sun came out.

Aw, poor little dog. I hope she didn't hurt herself. I hate the ice - so treacherous for walking on.

Isn't that a royal dog? Queen Elizabeth has several of them. You are among royalty, but we already knew that!

Yes tha queen has corgis as far as i know they were a gift from wales..the only royalty in kerra is that she looks like the queen mary parting the snow like the ship parts the waters...legs are too short to show...when i get on the computer i will look to see if i can find one

You always used to see the queen pictured with her corgis, I bet poor Kerra has a cold tummy being so low to the ground.

Well, slowpoke me finally has some photos. The first six photos were taken in April at Monument Valley and the last two taken in May at Petrified Forest/Painted Desert. I will submit more, hopefully soon.
