Default Photo Challenge #188 ~ Christmas Colours ~ [12/5/2013}

Photo challenge #188 - Christmas colours!

Christmas colours - red and green, red, green & gold, blue and white, blue and silver...whatever you think are typical (not necessarily traditional) Christmas colours combinations are what I'm looking for from you in your photos. But - they don't have to be Christmas themes - any subject matter in your chosen Christmas colours is good. One of my photos is an old necklace of my mother's, from way back in the seventies, and another is berries on a shrub in work.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!
~HAVE FUN

(I'll be back with more photos. The computer's throwing a hissy fit and I might have to shut it down before it will read the memory card with the other photos I took!).
ETA - the berries photo isn't really worth uploading - too overexposed. Maybe I'll try to get the same again tomorrow.

So - I did have to shut the computer down before I could edit any more photos.
Starbucks sign,
Christmas decor in town

Obviously the green and red has been easy for me , I also have a shot I took of a truck this morning. I'll have to see what I can come up with in blue and silver or white!

Sabrina, this is a great challenge! Your photos are great, espeically the window one with beautiful ironwork stand and flowers. I'm wondering, should the challenge number be 188, instead of 189?
I just arrived in Texas, am visiting my son, but I did take a photo today that has red in it.

Default Florida Style Tree with Lights

When I took DD to the dentist this afternoon I was delighted with this tree in their wait area. It's Red and green - and is Christmas.

LOVE that tree - almost worth a visit to the dentist.

Thanks for spotting the challenge number, Ina - I've fixed it.
I'm still trying to find blue and silver. I spotted a car with chrome that was just the right sort of Christmas blue yesterday, but I was rushing to be home in time for my gallery mod shift.

Went to an awesome scrapbook and stamp store in Lake Worth today and spotted this sign. The red and green jumped out to me, so I had to take a photo to share here. (I'll be correction my S2S account soon now!)

Cool to get red and green lights together! I think I took a traffic light with a green filter and a red for straight ahead a while back but I can't think what challenge I had it in mind for. That makes it so easy to see which is the petrol and which the diesel price too - smart! I've never seen it like that here.

I had taken several photos for this challenge while I was in Austin. But then, I lost my camera (in a camera case with 4 other camera cards in it) I left it in the toddler playground in the park and when I went back for it, it was gone) I bought a new point and shoot yesterday, so I managed to take one photo for this challenge. It's an old and small stocking. Not pretty, but it has Christmas colours.

Here are my Christmassy photos and I still hope to get some photos of houses out here. The first two photos were taken at the zoo during the annual Zoo Lights. The last three were taken at the Botanical Garden during the Chihuly Exhibit and decorations for their Luminarias.

#1 is made from plastic gallon or half gallon jugs that I presumed were recycled. The lights on it would move and change colors. #2 is a light show to music from the Trans Siberian Orchestra; lights would move and change color and the big ball would also change images. #3 is, I believe, a remembrance tree . #4 is one of the Chihuly sculptures, it makes me think of giant Christmas baubles. #5 is the typical poinsettia tree.

I like all of your submissions but gosh, gas is sure high in Florida!

The little stocking is adorable Ina. Guess some undeserving person got an early gift for the holidays .
The decorations you have shared with us Armadillo sure put one in the festive spirit.

Oh Ina - what a shame! I've always made sure to write my name and contact number on memory cards in the hopes that someone might return them if ever I lost them. Did you have insurance?
I nearly did lose mine once; we'd got off the airport bus in Athens and were looking for the road to the hotel when I realised that DH wasn't carrying the backpack with my cameras. He'd left it on the bus, and oh my, I was so relieved that it hadn't yet pulled away. He's never been delegated to carry it since then, though.

Great photos, Audrey. Two and three are my favourites. I remember looking up Chihuly before . I've never seen anything like the poinsettia tree before.

Red and green and very un-Christmassy looking, I passed this on one of my alternative walks to work if I go to a particular supermarket (good cheeses!) rather than the discount one.

That's such a lovely photo Sabrina! I didn't have insurance for that camera, as it was not very expensive. It cost me $79 and I had a store credit of $75
I didn't get a challenge posted this week as I have been without power for 87 hours, so no internet either. We had a widespread ice storm on the 21st and 22nd and the power went out due to trees and branches on the power lines. Should I post it today or wait until next week Tuesday?

Ina, I was wondering if your area was affected by the storm that swept across Canada and the US. Do hope you are beginning to thaw out and enjoyed Christmas.

I'd say wait. I hope you didn't have too many problems without power. I always remember the first year my parents moved down to the country and we went down for Christmas, arriving just after they lost power for 2 1/2 days. Luckily they had a wood stove and gas heater, so light (and the fridge/freezer) were the biggest problems. And grinding coffee in the mortar and pestle, LOL - it drove the dog crazy every time.
And I'll try harder this year to plan ahead and be on time with my challenges .

Yes, I am snug and warm in my own house now. However, it was sort of an adventure and time to bond with neighbours and family. My whole house is powered by electricity and the only auxiliary power is for my sump pump. A backup marine battery there. I live in a cul-de-sac and all the neighbours but one had generators running....what a noise! I went over to my walking buddy across the street each morning for tea and they provided large containers of water for use in my toilet. Sunday evening, the farmer down the road, who has a huge generator for milking his cows, sent his teenagers through the neighbourhood, inviting us all for supper. Only 9 of us took advantage, but we had a marvellous time. They have a huge eat in kitchen (as they have 11 kids) with a long table and we enjoyed hearty soups and homemade bread and cold cuts. It was fun to get to know two couples I had not met before.
After spending two nights in a cold house, I decided to go to my daughter's place and had fun with my 19 month old grandson and infant grand daughter. So this disaster held many blessings for me. I will post a challenge next (New Year's Eve!)

Lynn, such cool photos! I love your red glassware! The berries are great too, but best of all is how you captured that cardinal on the feeder! Love it!! New photo challenge coming up tomorrow!

Thanks, Ina! The bird was easy since we have the bird feeder in our yard and get some beautiful cardinals on a daily basis (that's when the feeder is full)! LOL!!

Have a great New Year's Eve!!

I too love that red glass - it's a candle holder, is it? The little pinecone candle is sweet, and the tree looks gorgeous (love to see that one in real life) but like Ina I think my favourite has to be the cardinal. Maybe one day my dream will come true and I'll get to see one in real life.

Thanks, Sabrina! Yes, the red glass is a candle holder. Nice thing about it is, I can keep it up through Valentine's day since it's red and the whole year for that matter! LOL!

Wish you could see this little cardinal in person that keeps coming to our bird feeder. I'm sure you would love it and wanting to take lots of pictures as I have! He's so fat and looks absolutely beautiful with his red and black feathers. I've really enjoyed having a feeder to watch all the lovely birds that come to eat. It's nice to be able to stand inside my house and capture pictures with a zoom lense without disturbing the birds. Also, I'm looking forward to when we get warmer weather and the little hummingbirds are out. Hoping to catch a picture of one of them. Never actually saw one in real life until I moved to this area of the country. They are darling and oh so tiny... but FAST!
