Default Photo challenge 187 'Houses' November 11/13

Photo challenge 187 'Houses' We all live in them or at least have at one time or another. I'd be really interested in seeing unique and pretty houses. so go for a walk, or get in the car for a drive and find some.
I didn't post a challenge last week as I was busy helping my DD with her newborn baby girl. The first granddaughter for me, after 5 grandsons! I didn't get a chance to go out and take photos as I had planned, as I am laid low with my inner ear problem again. So dizzy and nauseous, but I am improving and well enough to sit up and get on the computer for awhile.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!
~HAVE FUN

Oh Ina, I'm sorry you're not well - and just when you're busy with family too.
Congratulations on the granddaughter!!!

I'll see what I can get for this. It should be an interesting challenge, as some things we consider normal for us aren't for other people. I don't think I've ever seen a clapboard house over here.
Shame I need to drive to my aunt's tomorrow rather then getting the train and walking, as I know there are some lovely houses out her way.
Look after yourself!

Ina I hope you are feeling better so that you can enjoy your new grand daughter. I just had cataract surgery and once I'm out and about I should be able to find some houses out here.

Audrey, I hope your recovery goes well! I had cataract surgery on my left eye in September of 2012 and am very happy with the results. My right eye isn't bad enough for surgery yet, but it would sure be nice to go without glasses!

Near as I can tell the surgery went well but I sure would like to know what they gave me for a sedative because I have been walking around like a drunken sailor and providing laughs for several people. I will be having the other one done next month but I have to wait 4-1/2 weeks because the surgeon is so busy. He is giving me a lens corrected for distance and astigmatism. So, after 65 years, I shouldn't have to wear glasses anymore. Sadly, I have to pay for the astigmatism correction since medicare only pays for simple lenses, the little scurvies

Duh - I'm going on Saturday to help my sister sort through stuff in my dad's old house (he's just moved to rental nearer family), and then we'll be staying with her in her new house in Cork city (2nd largest city in Ireland, or maybe the 3rd), so definitely I'll get something over the weekend.
I didn't know that they could perform corrective surgery when they removed cataracts! Never heard of that over here. Good luck with that, Audrey.

Well! It's about time I posted some photos! The first photo is of a very common split level home (mine) The second photo is of a neighbour's house. It cost $1.6 million to build and has lake frontage. I took the third photo this afternoon on my walk. It is of a cute little cottage. I love the blue roof and trim as well as the matching chair in front. I'll post some more photos in a day or two.

I like the lakeside one a lot. And your neighbour's one - wow!!

Sorry it took me so long to get these uploaded.
House 1 is where my brother first lived when he left home and set up with his now wife. It's only a couple of miles from here.
Technically speaking, it's not where they lived . When the apartments were going up the little lodge was demolished. But there was no planning permission to remove it - in fact it was on the protected buildings schedule, and the builders had to rebuild it - probably a lot better insulated than it was when my brother was there, too!!

The other houses are all when we were down in Cork last weekend. The last one is my sister's new house. She's moved work, and had to rent a room last year. They're still trying to sell their old house, but this one was a wreck going cheap, so they could afford to buy it and get quite a bit done. Amazingly spacious inside, and a garden out the back - I could be very happy there but there's no parking for DH's motorbikes!

Y'all have some really nice house photos. I especially like the little blue and white cottage. Dopey me keeps forgetting to go out and photograph houses. Seems like a lot of areas don't allow street parking

Great photos Sabrina! City houses could be found anywhere, but it's interesting to see the detail differences from your country to ours. Your last photo is a type of place that you won't find here.
Audrey, I have seen a number of houses that I would love to photograph, but I've had the same problem as you........either the traffic is too heavy or there is no parking.

How wonderful to view your pictures. I will get my camera busy again after so long. Space is at a premium in Cork, it seems. We used to have some 'row houses' in Dubuque, Iowa but in recent years they were bought up for highway expansion. I will try for some of our homes in the country as I live in a farming community. Until later, Thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving Day!

I've so enjoyed the photos so far. Thought about where I live and there is nothing interesting. We took a drive over to Sam Flax in Orlando this afternoon and I had my camera with me and spotted this house across the street from the parking lot. It is wonderfully colored in green and purple - makes it so fun. If artists do not live there (right across the street from a fabulous art supply store) then something just isn't fair - lol
(the photo isn't the best as I was shooting into the sun, but it is an interesting little house and I still wanted to share it. Click on the thumb for a better size.)

Joyce Ann, that little house is so cute! We've got lots of interesting houses in our area, but whenever I have driven by them, I am too busy to stop. And now I am busy packing to go to Austin. Hopefully I will get some good shots there. Lots of interesting old houses in Austin and Pflugerville.

It almost looks like a dolls house!
I'd have liked to take a photo of one of the gate lodges in the park the other day, but it wasn't the easiest place to stop, I'd have to park somewhere and walk back. And there just doesn't seem to be enough time to fit extra things in just now .

Have a great time with your family, Ina!

Today, on my way to my friend's place (melissaL on splitcoast) to pick the no longer used cuttlebug she sold to a young friend of mine, I took a few minutes to take two photos. The first one is of a typical prosperous farmhouse of over 50 years ago. Many of them are still around and I love the insides of them, with high ceilings and fireplaces. The second is of a house that is quite unusual. It was moved from another location and the owner took many years to renovate it, while all who drove by were marveling at it!

Ina I can't even imagine what it must have take to move such a large and detailed house! Both are marvelous.

Wow - how fascinating, Ina! I like both those, so different to what we see here. The second one is quite amazing.

Hi...it's amazing to see houses in different parts of the world. I had viewed a blog of another SCS'er that had been living in Japan and then moved to England (DH was in one of the armed forces) and they toured all around and took pictures of the homes. I loved the ones with thatched roofs and were crooked. There is a definite influence of styles. Here in Lancaster, PA there are lots of Victorian 2 and 3 story stone and brick homes in the city. Some of the neighborhoods are absolutely gorgeous. If I get a chance, I'll try to drive by the Wadsworth mansion and Wheatland (President Buchanan's home). There are huge homes/estates/mansions on that road going out of town.

The pictures of houses is so, so interesting. Thanks to each of you. This was my home as a child. The lady who lives there now does so well at keeping things so pretty. We love her. Merry Christmas to all.

Bitty Badger, we lived in a similar frame house when I was growing up. Yours looks ver well taken care of, and I love the flower bed.

A very well-tended garden indeed. Nice to see your old home so well cared for.

I finally have a photo of a house. This house belongs to a yoga friend and her husband, second time I was there as the first time I didn't think to bring my camera

I have seen some beautiful houses that beg to be photographed but I think I am paranoid or something. I'm afraid if I stop to photograph someone's house they might get upset and attack me or something Maybe I should drag someone with me for moral support or something.

Go to the bar at the bottom of a post and click on 'Go Advanced'. Then click on the thing across the top line that looks like a paper clip. It will open a new window that says manage attachments. On the top row there will be a little bar that says choose file, which should take you to your computer files and you will look for the photo of your choice and click on it and then click on the upload bar. You can attach several photos in one post, but they should be sized smaller than 800 X 640 pixels in JPeg or if you have different files, the size limits are listed in the drop down. I hope this is clear.......if not, just let us know. Someone will help you. We would love to see you share your photos!
