Default Photo challenge 185 'I'll drink to that' {Oct 9, 2013}

Photo challenge 185 'I'll drink to that!' As I was sitting here last week, drinking my tea, I thought drinks would make a good challenge and accessible to everyone.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!
~HAVE FUN

My drink of choice is water and I always have a glass on the go. Since the weather has been so lovely here this fall, I have been enjoying my little front porch. Second photo shows a glass of water, with lots of reflections. First photo shows a glass of wine that I poured last evening. I didn't drink it, as I found the bottle in my crawlspace and it's been there (opened) for at least 10 years.

Sounds like fun, Ina. For starters I can take a picture of the sloe gin which I just started making on Monday after gathering sloes at the weekend .
That wine certainly looks as if not drinking it was a good idea - I presume it was once red! I thought it was sherry from the colour. Lovely glass!

Please, we would love it if you joined us Christi. Just post whatever photos you can take that fit the challenge. If you have any trouble posting, let us know and we will try to help you. We post a new challenge ever two weeks, hopefully on a Tuesday. Sabrina and I take turns choosing challenges.

Ok, here's some photos for this week's challenge... (this was a tiny bit "challenging" to think of some pictures to post). Since we don't drink I don't have have pretty bottles to show so I came up with other beverages. Of course I just had to "stage" them just a little. ~ LOL!!!

Lynn, your scenes are so beautifully staged! I love the ambiance of the low light giving it all a golden tone! Great photos.
BTW.......I don't drink either, but I happened to have a partial bottle of wine in my root cellar that was still there from when my kids lived at home. I probably could have used it as vinegar to clean my windows!

Thanks so much for your kind words, Ina!! It's always fun for me to try to do a little bit of something different like "staging" (that's what I call it) with my photos.

That's so funny what you said about using that old bottle of wine as window cleaner!! I wonder if it would have worked for you!

Looking forward to seeing more pics posted on this challenge... everyone is so talented and creative on this website!

I was going to say exactly the same thing as Ina - beautifully staged, Lynn. Especially the cider one.
Since cider here is always alcoholic I'm never quite sure what American (not sure that I've used any Canadian recipes calling for it) recipes mean when they say cider and don't specify hard.

I'll be back with more but wanted to get a couple of photos taken.
Two weekends ago we were over in the west (a few photos HERE on my blog), and our main aim was to gather sloes for sloe gin. They're the fruit of the blackthorn tree, like tiny sour astringent plums. I took this photo before I'd shaken the bottle at all, so it's just the natural pigments in the berries working their way down into the sugar and up into the gin.
Our favourite ginger beer .

Cool Sabrina. That sloe gin looks good. I imagine it's a bit tart? Love the old fashioned looking ginger beer bottle.

Thanks, Sabrina! Cider here in the US is just plain old apple juice. From what I know if you want to make it a alcoholic beverage you usually add it to the cider.
I love your old fashioned looking bottle and especially the close up of the elephant. Over the years I've seen so many pretty and cool looking bottles that contain alcohol. Also, I'm impressed at how clear your photos are... nice job!

Ok I have no creativity to stage an area...so I just use a table cloth and a place setting using the view as my backdrop. the view is the 10th floor overlooking the don valley. not alot of red but tons of orange

From my knowledge in Canada there is HARD cider...alcoholic...and spiced mulled cider which I drink...usually fresh with a short shelf life

Why create your own staging when you have such a fabulous view!! And a really lovely tea-set, too!! The long grass reminds me of Inspired by Nature. I wonder if I have enough butterfly stamps to have a go at making a card inspired by it.

OK, I have one more photo to post before we go on to a different challenge. Let me tell you a little of the history behind the bottle in this picture. This bottle of Scottish Whiskey was one that my parents had in their kitchen cupboard. Neither one of them drank but my mom was given the bottle from some relative over in Scotland years and years ago (over 50 for sure). I remember it sitting in the cupboard on the top shelf as a kid. Both of my parents passed away last year and when the family was cleaning out the cupboards we found the old bottle tucked away. I told my sibblings that I really wanted the bottle. Kind of silly to want an old half empty whiskey bottle but it gives me a fond memory of my mom who was from Scotland... I really miss them both!

I love the way the bottle is actually bell shaped, too! I've never seen one like that. Great staging with the plaid blanket too .
My grandad was Scottish, but as he moved to Canada somewhere in between the two wars, I only ever met him once when he came over here.

What a wonderful keepsake for you Lynn! It will be great imagining who had a drink from that bottle! I love how you staged the shot, with the tartan blankets. And if Sabrina hadn't mentioned it. I wouldn't have noticed that the bottle is actually bell shaped!

I did the same...when maman passed away I wanted a potato chip container that she now held baking flour...I know...when I was a kid I used to stay wit her for the summer...and the potato chip truck would come around and I got to select what I wanted. Then as I grew she started to keep flour in it and teach me baking. yup it is in my kitchen
