Default Photo Challenge #184 The Other Sort of Stamp!! {09/25/2013}

Photo challenge #184 Like Ina, I'm running late . But better late than never.
I was thinking about various ideas, but when we got a letter from Switzerland yesterday a light went off in my head. We use rubber stamps on our cards - but surely we all also use postage stamps when we're mailing them out. And while our national stamps may be ordinary to us, like Ina's challenge of money, other people's stamps are also fresh and new to other people.
I'm forever saving the ones I receive from (mostly SCS friends!) abroad wishing I could find a way to use them on cards - some of them are so pretty or fun.
I'll be back with a few photos later but wanted to post the challenge before time ran away from me yet again.
Share your postage stamps - old, new, local, international!!!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!

A good one Sabrina! And this is one challenge that I can dig into right away!
My sister-in-law saves stamps for a mission organization, so I save up the stamps that are on my mail. I put them in a little box that I made out of two photos many years ago and it is looking a little the worse for wear. It is shown with the stamps I took out of it for the first photo. The next two photos are close ups of the same stamps.

These three photos are of sheets I got from www.theCardLadies.com quite a few years ago. The third photo is a close up of my favourites. I am assuming that these were copies of actual stamps. I have never used them on my card.......about time I did that!

You really did jump right in, Ina!! It's a really overcast day here today, I'm hoping for better weather tomorrow and I'll try to find some of the ones I've saved. I have our own regular national and international ones, of course. But I should have a sweet Australian Christmas one, and there was (I think a Canadian) with a raccoon which I just loved.
Your boat ones are really fabulous, I can see why they would be favourites. I really like that one with the hay-bale with the maple leaf.
On an aside, something funny I've noticed this year is that way, way more fields have had rectangular bales in them this year, not the big round ones. Odd!!

OK - I didn't find the Australian Christmas one but if I have time tomorrow I'll have another look.
New Zealand Christmas, Australian surf, Swiss, and national and international Irish. For a when the prices were about to go up they were printing them on demand and for ten stamps you'd probably have about eight different designs. There was a hawk, and a hare - they were two of my favourites. And a seahorse. But I do love the goldfinches - especially as we have a lot in the garden. In fact we have a whole bunch of young ones at the moment - they don't have red heads till they moult, so we have some with little red rashy foreheads, and some with no red at all yet .

Sabrina, what a great variety of stamps! I love the Australian stamps, especially the surfing ones, but also the fun one you just posted. Love the New Zealand Christmas one too!
I collect post cards that have been sent to me. I have a friend in Florida who does a lot of travelling, and she sends me a postcard wherever she goes. Here are a few stamps from those cards.

A few more photos. These are all unused Canadian stamps. I love going into the post office and buying the special stamps. I use them sparingly, so I still have old ones on hand. The first photo is two stamps of the Titanic. Second one is a variety of stamps and the last one is of three Canadian singers. The lower left stamp features Stompin' Tom Connors who passed away this year. The last one is Gordon Lightfoot, a favourite Canadian folk singer of mine.

Great stamps, Ina! I really like the Titanic and musician ones. I saw recently that they've just released a set commemorating the Merchant Navy and the work they did with the Arctic convoys. Link if you're interested ~ The Merchant Navy - And WW2 Convoys - new Great Britain stamps, 19 September 2013 - Norvic Philatelics
And gosh, by saying you like buying the special stamps, you've just reminded me that I have a gift of a Snoopy stamp, maybe even a first day cover. Now - can I remember where that is!

I'm familiar with the stamps on the first photo and also the star, Harry Truman and rooster, but the other ones are unfamiliar. I really like the one stamp in the middle (with three people in uniform?) and the multiple black and white stamps are interesting too. Can't quite see what they represent.

Thanks so much Sharon!

Here are somewhat better images of the stamps from my one photo. I really like the one with the 3 mail carriers. Also, the "Lunch wagon" stamp is missing part of the bottom of the stamp. Looks like it was ripped off from the front.

Everyone has such neat stamps and I don't understand why my comments disappear
I love the Australian Christmas stamp and the little polar bear. I've always been a big fan of Gordon Lightfoot. These are my stamps. On the far left is the Liberty Bell Forever stamps then a flower Forever stamp for a wedding RSVP, Arizona's centennial Forever stamp and my Navajo squash blossom necklace stamp. The other photo shows bulk mail stamps.
