Default Photo Challenge #182 ~ Get Write With It {8/22/2013}

Photo challenge #182 ~ Get Write With It.

Sorry, I'm late!
Again... life is so busy these days.
And I haven't even taken my photos yet because I started taking some with a different idea in mind but I'll hold that for another time because it hasn't quite gelled yet.

This week the challenge is things you can write with. I was primarily thinking pens - anyone have a decorative quill pen? Or an old fountain pen - I used to have some lovely antique ones from my grandmother, but I'm sure I don't have them any more.
I am surely not the only one, either, who has a multitude of "pen jars" around the place - usually containing several pens which don't work .
Think pencils, biros, etc, too. For the purposes of the challenge, and because I have seen wonderful still-life type photos of crayons and colouring pencils and markers (and goodness, we all have plenty of those in our craft-rooms!!) they also count.

I hope to back in a while with a few snaps, and look forward to seeing what you can find.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!

I used to have some calligraphy pens but I think I got rid of them years ago. I might be able to come up with something if my laziness doesn't take over .

LOVE your cat pen jar. The other mesh one reminds me of a style that was very trendy when I worked in London.

I've taken some photos, I'll upload them later when it's cooled down a little in my attic. I pulled out four of our pen jars - all old favourite mugs that are chipped or broken but too nice to throw out.

Even though I am not a fan of cats that is a nice pencil holder. Most of my stuff is in a draw. I do have the colored pencils and watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons (which melted and now are in the refrigerator) and regular crayons which haven't melted. I also have chalks, tracing pencils and lord only knows what else but here are some of my stuff.
In the first image the top is an adhesive pen that I use with the gold flakes then there are the calligraphy tips I found but no holder for them; guess I need to find a home for them now. What looks like a stubby pencil is actually a lead holder. The next photo is just a bunch of decorative pencils most of which have Dr. Seuss designs. The third image is, I believe Elmo and his rubber ducky that was given to me. The red pencil in the 4th photo is a transfer pencil that is used for tracing a design then ironing it onto fabric. I have no idea where I may have picked up the Pet Health Pharmacy pen. The gray pen is from the 1959 Pan American Games held in Chicago. I worked at Motorola for a few years when I was married. The pencil with American Oil on it used to be Standard Oil (Indiana) or vice versa ( don't remember) then became Amoco and is now BP. The bottom "pen" is a holder for what I believe is a grease marker. The last photo is a Saguaro pen that I saw in a little museum last year and felt I needed to buy it.

Oh my - cool photos, Audrey!
That first one with the old pen and all the nibs is wonderful, and I can see why you had to buy the saguaro pen!! All the colours in the second one are wonderful - love the Dr. Seuss ones. And Elmo - my nephew would love that one.

I need to do some more looking at what I have, but I took these for a starter.
Pen jars from downstairs - and not even all of them! I guess I should take the pens out and see what's there! The blue, and blue and yellow one are both from Greece. The lovely one with the horse is from the US, we used to have a hunting scene one with a gun dog and ducks, too. They were lovely mugs!
Faber Castell pencils.
My every-day fountain pen, an Irish manufacturer (Cross). I bought the Paris pen for DH in the gift shop on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. He was ice-skating in a little rink there, and then went on up to the next level which is too high for me these days. I visited the gift shop instead . It lights up in about 6 or 7 different colours. The other biro is his too, from my sister. I think the stones are lapis lazuli.

O.K. I will call you pizza then! Do you like Thai food. There is a marvellous Thai food restaurant on Dundas Street West. It is called Café 668.

We spent a couple of days on Lake Simcoe a number of years ago. We spent the night at a motel in Georgina. It was a gorgeous sunset on the lake.

Darn light pollution! It's the same here except on VERY clear nights.
Enjoy your camping. I do like having trees between the pitches. Couple of years back we stayed in a fabulous campsite in France and we'd go back just because the site was so lovely even though it wasn't as interesting an area as other places we stayed, LOL.

I like Thai, Ina .

Great photos, ladies!! I was beginning to think I wasn't going to be able to do this challenge. Last week I was having computer issues. I'm so happy to be back up and running... YEAH!! (thanks to my husband)

Ok, a couple of my pictures are a little bit "out of the box." (Sorry, I was thinking of things that you can use to make words or letters!)

First pic: Writing with Fabric
Second: Sharpies
Third: Colored pencils
Fourth: This pen makes me happy! It has braces on the teeth and I love the smile!!!
Fifth: Calligraphy pen with cartridges
Sixth: Crayons
Seventh: Frosting tips for cakes, etc.

Hope you've all had a great weekend!! Lynn

Nothing wrong with out-of-the-box thinking, Lynn! Sometimes it's my only way into a challenge that's tough for me.
I really like the Sharpies and crayon ones.
The smiley face made me smile too. I had to go back to see the braces!
I've been promising myself for years that one day I'll learn calligraphy - that's a great picture with all the nibs. It reminded me of my uncle who died this summer - to him, a letter wasn't a real letter unless it was hand-written and he had the most beautiful handwriting till his Parkinson's got bad. I sort of know what he means, but I've always typed most of my correspondence and at least that way it's legible.
Writing tips for an icing tube - that's clever! I never thought of that, and I have a whole box of them.

Thanks Sabrina for your feedback! I love calligraphy but wish I would have kept up with it a little more by practicing. You definitely will have to take a class and try it. It's not that difficult to learn. I took a class on it at a local college several years ago and did fairly well. I had some prior knowlege and experience before entering the class which helped but that's not required. The instructor had beautiful skills at it and I always judged my handwriting to hers. (It's sometimes frustrating trying to be a perfectionist). It's like anything else in life, it takes PRACTICE to be good at something. (That's why I'm so glad to be on this photography board... it's making me practice photography skills more and more! ~ LOL!!)

I too have a whole lot of icing tips, etc... took the Wilton cake decorating classes (3 of them). Do you decorate cakes, etc.?

Have a great day! Lynn
