Default Photo Challenge #178 ~ Abstract: pattern and texture {12/6/6}

I'm sorry - my computer has almost totally crashed, I think the hard drive is gone. I have a few photos taken, but I'll have to connect the camera to the laptop, and I'm not so fond of editing on it. So I'll go ahead and post the challenge anway.

Anything that shows pattern or texture is good for this. I quite often take photos that I think I could as backgrounds, they don't have a focal point as such. Tree bark, cracking, peeling paint on walls, a climbing plant against a wall, ripples on water, raked sand as in a Japanese zen garden...

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!

Excellent choice Sabrina!
Computer problems seem to be the bane of us all! I got a new laptop last fall. It's Windows 8 and I am still learning how to use it.....so much different from WindowsXP! If I could afford it, I would have gone with an Apple product.

Windows 8. Oh boy!! I'm hoping to get a new PC in a couple of months, hopefully I can fix this one to carry me through till then. But I'm going to do everything in my power to get one with Windows 7, even if it costs more. Most reviews I've read of 8 have been very mixed, and the techie guys at work with DH say stay clear!!

I do have a couple more photos, I just have to find them on my back-up drive, (probably easier than figuring which memory card they're on, because I got a new one to take on holidays!) but I took this on the way to work the other morning.

I really like the reflection photo....especially the ripples in the water.
Windows 8 took a lot of getting used to, but if a person has a smart phone, they would be used to the apps. It was a steep learning curve for someone who is not very computer savvy, but it has worked for me quite well so far.
My interpretation of this challenge was that the photo would be able to be used as a bg on a card or a scrapbook page. So here are my pictures. They were all taken in my backyard this afternoon.
1) an old woodpile right behind my house
2) Spruce branch
3) a blue large leaf hosta
4) Dames rocket blooms that fill my yard

And one more from inside my house. A pillowcase from my bed.

Those are great, Ina! I think the spruce is my favourite, but I love your pillowcase. And the wood.
I'm amazed the hostas look so pristine, the only time I tried them, slugs chewed them to lace.

On top of the computer, I've also had a lot of internet problems today and last night, so I just haven't had the energy to upload any more photos.

When I was visiting my cousin in the Netherlands, she was complaining of the slugs on her hostas and had decided to get rid of the hostas as a result. We don't as many snails/slugs here, as our climate is dryer most of the time. We have had a more rainy spring and I have noticed more snails, but so far, they have not found my hosta gardens. I can't say the same for the rabbits.....they are being a real menace to my vegetable garden!

Wow, it's literally been ages since I posted on this thread. Theme looked easy and fun. Well here's some textures I found around the house.

Hi Lynn!
Super photos! I'm always taking ones of bark, myself.
The middle one is a close-up of some animal, yes? The first one has me intrigued - I love all those concentric circles.

Thanks so much, Cook22! The first picture is of a HUGE decorative bamboo dish that we have in our entryway. The circumference of it is about 27 inches. Decided to take a close up of it. The second picture, you are absolutely right about it being some type of animal fur. It's actually a calf skin I bought at a western store in Texas. I absolutely love how pretty it is. And the last picture is a close up of one of the trees in our backyard, edited in "black and white".

Lynn : )

Lynn, welcome back! I love all your photos......great textures! The bamboo bowl is so cool, the way you photographed it. Is your third photo of a birch tree? Using a black and white mode really makes the bark stand out.

Thanks so much, Ina! Gosh, to tell you the truth I'm not really sure what kind of tree it is. I'm attatching this photo of the leaves of that tree. Although it's not a particularly good picture, hopefully you might be able to tell what kind it is. The leaves are somewhat small and it keeps it's leaves year round. Of course lots of plants keep their leaves year round down here in TX so that might not be of any help. LOL! When you wrote "birch tree" I thought of the white birch (which I love) that are found in the northern parts of the US and in my opinion are one of the most beautiful trees and make awesome photos.

Lynn, I didn't realize you were in Texas. It may be a sandjack oak. I didn't realize there were so may different types of oak trees until we did a walkabout at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center this spring. What part of Texas are you in?

Ina, we live in the Austin area. The trees down here are so different from the ones I'm used to up north (northern states). Some of them look so similar down here that I wonder if they are the same trees only smaller/bigger... and I can't tell the difference between the types. Guess some day it would be helpful if I'd take the time to look online and find out what is actually growing in our front and back yard ~ LOL!

Imagine that..... my son lives in north Austin, across I-35 from Pflugerville! I usually get down to visit 3-4 times a year. I love it there!

I need to go back to reviewing the master list! The first two photos wee taken at the zoo and it is just a reflection in the water. The second is a reflection of part of the Chihuly exhibit at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden.
