Default Photo Challenge 166 'Money' {Nov. 28, 2012}

Photo challenge 166....'Money' Seeing as some of us live in countries other than the U.S. of A. I though it would be interesting to see what money in other lands look like. I'm quite familiar with American money, but maybe someone could post a photo of a silver dollar or some money that is not currently being used very much.

Photo Challenge Rules:

~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!

I haven't taken my pictures yet, as I just realized that I missed posting a challenge yesterday, so I wanted to at least get it on a thread.

Here are a few photos. Canada got rid of the one and two dollar bills awhile ago. It started with the one dollar paper bill...replaced by a coin with the queen on the front and a loon on the back, so we started to call it a loonie. Then a few years later the two dollar bill was replaced by a coin and people just started to call it a toonie, and it stuck.
Currently our paper bills are being replaced by polymer ones. I just receivec my first polymer $20 this week, and it has a see through area....as you will be able to see on my one photo. It would certainly be hard to counterfeit them, that's for sure.

Cool challenge, Ina! I know I even have an old French note with the Little Prince on it and an Irish pound from before the euro came in. Goodness, I even have some pre-decimal coins! I'll try to get some shots in the next couple of days. We used to get Canadian $$ from my great-aunts. Those new polymer ones look very intriguing.

Sorry - been busy, and the light/weather have been terrible.
I made sure to grab a few shots the other day, hope to be back with more.
The old French 50 franc note, back and front.

The Euro coins are quite fun, because they all have the same reverse but each country has a different design for the obverse.
Two euro coins - two Irish ones on top, bottom right is Finnish.
Selection of coins - Portuguese and Greek (owl) one Euro, Finnish 5 cent coin.

I love seeing these Sabrina! I agree that it's hard to photograph the coins in dull weather. But I love seeing all the different sides! I think I may have some Mexican coins, but I can't seem to find them!

You know I think we have a Calgary silver dollar from when steve was across with the army in the seventies.

Here are some presidential dollars first, then some state quarters. These are more interesting looking than our regular money. Although, these are completely spendable, many save them. I see a lot of the state quarters in daily exchanges at the stores, very common, but never see the Presidential dollars.
I have a fairly new camera, and need to read the book to see how to do close ups. Sorry the photography isnt that great.

Nice collection of presidents there, Sharon! I was thinking of sneaking in a scan (pre-digital photo era, LOL), of an old pre-euro 50 note with my great-grandfather.
I LOVE the Tennessee one, music is one of my loves. Interesting to see that you have individual state quarters. Are they common, or usually just for a special commemorative event like the ones you've shown?

Strange, I responded to this challenge when you first posted it Ina and don't understand where my comment went, oh well. Ina and Sabrina you have some really interesting money. The Mother of a friend of mine would love the coin with the owl on it as she collects owls and I think has around a thousand of them including her license plate.

They issued the state quarters fron 1999 thru 2008. The 50 State Quarters were released by the United States Mint every ten weeks, or five each year. They were released in the same order that the states ratified the Constitution. Each quarter's reverse commemorated one of the 50 states with a design emblematic of its unique history, traditions and symbols. Certain design elements, such as state flags, images of living persons, and head-and-shoulder images of deceased persons were prohibited

I copied and pasted above to tell you what the program was. But they are in circulation and completly spendable, just as the presidential dollars are. The Tennesse one you like is for their music, mostly of course, Elvis!

Here is some more U.S. coins. The first are pennies, the center penny is the front, the penny on the left shows what the back has been for a gazillion years and apparently, without my knowledge that was changed and the penny on the right shows the new back. The center image are quarters, the left one is Arizona, then the front and Texas (my very most favorite state) is on the right. The last image shows the front and back of the silver dollar. The car dealer where I have always purchased my cars used to give silver dollars as a thank you.

Audrey, thanks for posting these! I have always loved the state quarters! Texas is my favourite state, but I like the Arizona quarter better. It features so many items! I love the silver dollars too. And you did such a great job of photographing them..........I can see all the details clearly.
