Default Photo Challenge 164 'Graffiti' {Oct. 30/12}

Photo challenge 164 'Graffiti'.
I'm posting a bit early, as it's cold and rainy here and I don't feel like doing anything else. Also, I think maybe this will be a real challenge for some who do not live close to a city. If you cannot find any graffiti, maybe a mural on a building might work. My DD lives in Toronto and there are several areas in that city that have an abundance of graffiti. The last time I was there, we took a little tour through one such area. Very interesting indeed! Lets see what you can find!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!

These three photos were all of the same building. The third picture was around the corner on the second side of the building. The 'art' work went all the way up to the third floor too. Amazing!

Those murals are amazing!! Such bright vibrant colours. We came across something a bit like that in Paris, in a type of allotment garden for a school along an old disused railway track. Regular common or garden graffiti I should be able to find no problem - but nothing like this!

Here's another assortment of graffiti, all found in the same general area of Toronto. If I was as accomplished as some of these artists are, I wouldn't need rubber stamps!

Love the Tom and Jerry one - I must show that to DH.

I got lucky in town yesterday - with the weather apart from anything else.
I knew the very basic anti tax-exiles one was there, and the last two, but the second one I had never spotted before!

And here's a link to the blog post which has the garden "shed" along the old disused railway in Paris. Now there's a place for amazing graffiti, murals, wall painting and so on. There are a couple of amazing trompe l'oeuil walls I've seen.

Cool photos! The eatery one is cute. Glad you had some sunshine. We are still feeling the after effects of hurricane Sandy, so it's been rainy and dull all week. I'm off to check you blog.

I was thinking that! One of the ones I went looking for was gone, and when I looked at the gate in the wall, I think it's not what it used to be - but there's always something there. When we visited Barcelona there was some amazing graffiti but also a very prompt clean-up squad with a little truck and heavy-duty cleaning materials, so it never lasted long.

I was walking along the canal one morning this week and snapped this, under a fly-over.

Another one spotted on Friday when I walked in to a post office in town before work - it was very grey, overcast and a bit rainy, so it was hard to get a decent shot.

Ok I have to say that I love all of your photos. I live in a small town and the only way you see this type of thing is if it is "planned art" that the city has paid an artist to paint on a wall. Amazing stuff you all have found!

Eva if you would like to take part in this photo challenge, go ahead and take some shots of the outside murals in your town. We'd love to see them.
Alternately, you could wait until later this week, when Sabrina posts a new challenge! Either way, we'd love to have you join us.

Some of those are pretty "cool". There is a lot of graffiti in Phoenix but I don't think I want to go in those areas and some walls are painted in lieu of graffiti but don't know where they are.

Congratulations Ina on the new grandson. No, I haven't been sick, just EXTREMELY lazy this whole year! Haven't done any rubber stamping and only made 3 quilts for the VA instead of my usual 12. I've always taken a bit of "hiatus" from my crafts for about two months at the end of the year but this has lasted the whole blasted year! Hopefully I will get my act together soon.

Temple Bar is actually the name of the area. And yes, it's pretty full of bars and eating places, and is a notorious destination for hen and stag parties (to be avoided in the evenings!), but also a lot of small clothing shops, new and second hand. I think the one with the skulls was a clothes shop...

Well, I finally have something to submit but not sure if it really falls in the graffiti category. These are all trompe l'oeil paintings by Richard Haas on two different buildings. The first three images shows the former Thunderbird Fire and Equipment building in south Phoenix, have no idea what is there now. The other building is the Eclectic Monkey Emporium, a resale store in Mesa.

Amazing! I've seen some super stuff in Paris, but not here ever, I don't think. The two last ones really remind me of some of Gaudi's architecture in Barcelona.

Ever since Ina posted this challenge I have been meaning to stop at the community centre down the road and take a picture of the painting on the wall.
Today was the day!! There's a creche/pre-school beside the community centre, too.

Our family visited my DH's old stomping grounds in Stone Mountain, GA outside of Atlanta. His mom used to climb Stone Mountain every a.m. at sunrise and we always took a climb with her when we visited her. It is a 825 ft exposed rock with a 1.3 mile walking trail up to the top.We also had a memorial service for her on the mountain after her death in 2005. All that to say that I'm posting some photos of "grafitti" Stone Mountain style:

Oh Gail, you need to tell us more! What are those items on the tree? And what about the etching in the stone....is that a memorial stone, or did someone passing by do this?

All the way up the trail you see the carvings into the rock. Some of them are quite old...I'm pretty sure they wouldn't allow it now. That is GUM. I know, really gross, but looks kind of cool anyway. I hadn't remembered just how much of the carving there was along the way....I mainly remembered the Eat at Joe's that I had my son take a picture of me with.

Here's an article on the "real" carving of the Confederate generals on the side of Stone Mountain. It is hard to appreciate how huge the carving is when you see pictures of it.

Gail, thanks so much for sharing that link. On our drives to Florida in the past, we have seen signs for Stone Mountain, but we never stopped. I am so sorry we didn't. Looks like it would be a worthwhile vacation destination.

Those are so interesting, Gail. The gum is a bit gross, but as you say, quite amazing looking.
Funny what you say about how the carving wouldn't be allowed now - so true. There's a tree in a national park over in the west which is called the Autograph Tree because it has so many famous peoples' initials and signatures carved into it. Of course now it's all protected so you can barely get close enough to see them clearly. Nice photo of you!

I took quite a few photos for this last time I was in town, but I just haven't had the time to edit them, between busy-ness in life, and internet and PC problems still ongoing. Well, the PC seems to be happy at the moment, TG, but I've only had broadband about half of today .
Here's one, to be going on with!

Really cool graffiti Sabrina! I love the first one and second one best. Love how you photographed the blue wolf to look like it is jumping on top of the car.
