Photo Challenge 160 'Barns'. Traveling about in the countryside as I do, I see many barns, some new, some old, and some falling down. Barns are essential to the farming community....a place to shelter farm animals such as pigs, cows, horses, chickens, etc. from the elements. Barns are also places for storing grains, hay, and farm machinery. It will be interesting to compare barns from one country to another.
Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.

At present, I have no photos, as I was planning to take pictures on Tuesday and it rained all day. Wednesday, I had cataract surgery and will not be allowed to drive for a few days. Also, it's hard to get a clear photo with only one eye!

Oh Ina, I hope you recover soon from the cataract surgery. But it should make a difference when you do!!
I'll try my best to find a couple of photos for this, but it's not going to be easy here in the city. It's a cool challenge, though - I love to see barns. I can remember being allowed to climb on the straw bales when we were kids and used to visit friends.

Hello my name is Sonja, I am just stopping in to say hi I love to take pictures and to look at others as well I want to learn so much more to take better pictures as well... I live in the midst of barns...I would love to join in...I am not" techy savvy" tho the way my camera is set the pics are too large to share and I am not usually able to re size... simple things defeat me... said while I shake my head...lol

Welcome Sonja! Feel free to jump in any time and post photos! I'd love to see some of your barns! I am planning to go out tomorrow and find a few interesting barns from out area.
What kind of camera do you have? I use a little Nikon point and shoot for these challenges and I just go into the programming to change my settings (before I take the photos)to PC compatible whenever I take photos I want to post on-line. I have and old computer and dial up internet, so I can't post any photos that are of greater resolution.
It's been more than a week since I posted this challenge, and I have finally made it out to get some barn pictures! I didn't really want to trespass on someone's property, so these were all taken from the side of the road, and at times I really had to watch out for traffic!
The first photo was taken off a busy highway. This farm had 5 of these new chicken barns in a row. The second photo is of a typical older barn. The third is of my neighbour's barn. I took photos of two of his barns, and the other one was nicer, but I had forgotten to change the settings on my camera to computer mode, so it was sized too big to upload here. I'll have to take another picture later when the sun is shining. It's raining now. I did really like the cloud formation yesterday morning, so that is why there is so much sky!

Are you still just on dial-up, Ina - I thought your son was going to try to get you upgraded!
5 of those first ones in a row - that's a major operation! I really like the second one, we definitely don't have that style here. The one of your neighbours reminds me more of the farm we used to visit. I'm afraid I still haven't been far enough out of the city to see any .

Fabulous autumn colours!! And what I think of as a typical American barn.
I finally got some photos when we were over in the west last weekend.
Plenty of barns there, but with narrow roads (some of them are so narrow that it's hard to pass an oncoming car without slowing down almost to a stop, so pulling in isn't easy) and rain it wasn't always easy even then to take a photo.
On our first walk I spotted a lovely one, and a suitable space to pull in and park, but on the way back it was lashing rain.
On the way up to the north Clare coast I spotted two more, one with a good parking spot...but we came back a different way.
So here's what I did get. The barns are all fairly typical of what you see on small rural farms round the country, but I'd like to add that the landscape is very atypical - the Burren is a very unique landscape!
Sabrina, I love your barn photos! The scenery of the first picture is awesome....love the hills/mountains and the barn as well as the stone fences! When I was in Rhode Island in the U.S., they had many stone fences too, and on the tour we were told they were built by Irish labourers who were brought over to the States just to build those fences. Of course, they stayed on. I'm sure many of them were too poor to return to Ireland and if they were even wanted back there!

I really like all your barns. The closest barn I know of is at the zoo in the children's section. I'm sure there are barns in this state but don't really know where as I've never seen any along the roads or highways. Farms where are generally referred to as ranches.
Well, I finally got myself over to the zoo to photograph a rather mundane barn. I should have gotten in closer on the first photo because that is a fake cow with a fake udder so that you can pretend you are milking a cow,

So I wasn't the only one having trouble finding a barn! More zoo pictures too, I hoppe.
A fake cow - that's a hoot. I remember being allowed try with a real cow on holidays one year - much more fun.
And oh, that blue sky. It's nothing but grey here these days .
