Arrow Photo Challenge #16 - Around the House {1-4-09}

Hope everyone's New Year is off to a fabulous start!

This week's challenge is to photograph something that you find around the house, on the inside. That's easy enough, right? Maybe not for some of us! I for one had the hardest time! Wow! There's a lot of items that make for interesting photo subjects all around the house.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN!

I settled on the cast iron cookware that hubby was seasoning. Seems like its a weekly ritual around our house.

What a great challenge Angie!

I couldn't sleep (curse of taking a nap earlier, lol) so I got out my camera and tried my hand at this. I found a couple of things in my living room.

The first is a statue of a mother and child that my DD gave me for Mother's Day this last year.

The second picture is actually my favorite of the two. DH is the Army and has received many coins from various units he has served with while deployed. He made a coin rack to display them all so I took a pic of that. It is on the top of our book shelf and I'm really short so to take this picture I just raised my camera above my head and hoped for a good shot. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Loved both of your photos, Sharon - especially the great angle and depth of focus on the coin display!

I took a slightly different approach because we are currently house-less...that is we are living in an apartment while our house is built, SO....

These aren't the types of shots you find of your house everyday.

Lisa - I really like that stairway pic!! It's almost Escher-esque!

Here's my shot. I have a mail holder that consists of 3 wooden butterflies. This is a close up of the one that I use to hold the cards that I've received. Took a while to get the lighting just right, and I'm still not sure I'm entirely pleased with that part, but over all, I like the pic

Awesome pics, everybody!! Here are mine. The first is a verse on that a friend gave me - and it's one of my favorites! I also took a picture of a little silver buckle on one of my purses, and the last one, I thought a radio would be a cool idea!

ERGH - it says my radio picture is too small!! I'll resize it later!!

My around the house is a wrought iron scroll mirror on my living room wall. I took these pictures way off to the left of the mirror. What I like about this angle is that it makes the perspective of the mirror flip back and forth. Sometimes it looks like the scrolls bend back toward the wall and sometimes it looks like they bend toward the person standing in front of the mirror.

I also changed the color scheme for each shot.

Great photos everyone! It's great to see you all have eyes for interesting angles of common things we see every day. Here are my photos. These were both taken at my kitchen window. The first is on the side of the cupboard and the hanging place mats have been there so long, I forget they are there and don't even notice them. Second photo is of the stained glass picture hanging in the window and i do admire it every day, as I just love it.

Oh, good. An easy one this week for my very first photo challenge.

This is DMC embroidery floss in a translucent plastic box. It's lit from behind on a makeshift light table.

Comments already? Thanks so much!

Catching up on my own comments...

Angie -- Great texture on that pot lid. I'd like alphabet stickers of those LODGE letters with exactly those shadows to use for scrapbooking.

Sharon -- On the coin rack, the 5 small blue circles on the middle coin make a nice center of interest, especially with the soft focus in the other areas.

Connie -- With your lighting and composition, these figurines look like they could be life-size on a stage. Theatrical and dramatic.

Lisa -- In another thread, Audrey is going to be taking photos of a tree through all four seasons this year. It would be really neat to have a set of photos taken from exactly the same spot in your new home, showing the progress from this stage until finished and completely decorated.

Dorinda -- That diorama looks surreal. And the angel really shows the glass texture well. You can almost feel it in that shot.

Jules -- I like how the two hearts on the card echo the two cutout shapes in the mail holder.

Hannah -- What a cool shot of that buckle. Instead of flat grays, the lavender hues and touches of blue really add interest.

Red face Food!

Maybe it's because I'm trying to diet, but my first thought was to photograph food. (I chose healthy food so that's not too bad though, right? )
