Default Photo challenge #156 ~ Keeping it in the Family {05/14/2012}

Photo challenge 156 - Keeping it in the Family. Kind of a follow-on from Ina's Babies. Our car has been in for repairs for a whole week, so even when the weather has been fair I haven't got to the park to look for baby ducks. Anyway, this challenge is about things that have been handed down in the family - and if you want, that can include personal features like the same nose or eyes or hair as a parent/grandparent. They don't have to be precious heirlooms, either, just anything that's been passed down. I know over the years I've uploaded quite a few photos that would come in here, especially for the book challenge. But I took some fresh ones this afternoon.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at any time!
~HAVE FUN!

I know over the years I've uploaded quite a few photos that would come in here, especially for the book challenge. But I took some fresh ones this afternoon.

For my 21st birthday I was given this little pearl necklace, which used to be my grandmother's - still in its original case, too.

Some old book plates of my great grandfather's. I don't know what to use them for, but I hate to just throw them out.

My mother had very little stuff from her childhood - moving from France to Canada (and working in the States along the way), by the time she eventually ended up here in Ireland there wasn't much that had moved all the way with her. But this little glass peacock lamp was her nightlight when she was a child.

I did take a photograph of a dress of my grandmother's which I wore to a couple of parties, but I'm trying to also find a photo I had of her wearing it before I upload it.

Good one, Sabrina! I have several things that would fit this challenge. Will get my camera out when I have some spare time....seeing as the baby has arrived by C/section and my DD and the baby are requiring a lot of my time and then I am also working 4 shifts this week.

I managed to take a few photos.
The first one is of a red currant bush that I received from my mother when I first moved into this house 23 years ago. I actually wanted a gooseberry bush and when I dug it up, it came with a tiny bit of root from a red currant bush. It has since then grown and developed two more bushes. Looks like we will have a great crop this year!
The second photo is of my mother's Bible which I inherited when she passed away.
Neither of these items are very old. The Bible has a date of 1994 in it.
The only really old item I have is a broach that belonged to my grandmother, but at present I am unable to find it.

An inherited plant is a lovely thing to have. My aunt has an Old Man's Beard cactus that I remember from my grandmother's conservatory, and she also has some abutilon from the old family home a couple of generations back. Another aunt has some little irises again from my grandmother's garden. We've moved too often to have anything like that.
That's a really unusual cover on the Bible.

Sabrina, the cover on the Bible is a cloth one that my mother made for it.

I thought they were garden flowers, I liked that! My sister's wedding flowers were all from a friend's garden .
