Default Photo Challenge #150 ~ Line it Up {21/02/2012}

We've had leading lines before, but this time round your lines don't have to lead the eye in, they can be the focus of the image. I've hit a really busy couple of weeks, so I wasn't able to get photos for my first idea, but I took the tram lines this morning.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!

The tram line as it arrives at the main inter-city train station, looking both directions.
And the overhead cables for the tram.

Pipes at work.
I spotted the contrail this morning, too. The gate I normally go in is closed to pedestrians because of building work, so I have to walk up the hill beside the tram tracks and back in towards town at the top of the hill.
Starlings on an aerial.

Sabrina...you are a woman of MANY talents. I am in awe of you, girl! Don't ask me how I got HERE.........oh, yeah, I was looking for a thread that would explain Blog Hops and all things "blog." Not that I want one, I just want to understand what to do when I get there and how to participate in Bloggy Things.

Have a great week!

When I first saw this challenge, these power lines came to mind. So yesterday I took a quick drive up towards Wickenburg.

Hi everyone,

I'm Jessica and I had NO idea these challenge were here until recently! I knew there was a Photography thread but I'm really excited about the challenge and would love to play along when I can! I took this on Saturday at an abandoned section of railroad track near Franklin, TN. I love the lines and love to photograph railroad tracks so I thought it would serve nicely for the "lines" challenge Thanks for looking!

Welcome, Jessica - and please do join in . It's been getting to the point where I've been wondering if it's worth keeping the challenges going!

I was thinking of power lines - love that shot, and the way they criss-cross like that. And oh, those blue skies!!

And I love, love the railway line shot; especially being in the sepia tones it brings back memories of the miles and miles I walked along the tracks in my home town - in the days when it wasn't considered trespass. Of course, there only were about half a dozen trains a day, it's not as if it was a busy line. And on our honeymoon we went on a steam-train trip along an old line - but it stopped and was forever getting going again so in the end we go out and walked. Gosh, I can almost smell the creosote from the ties, thinking about it.

HI!!! I'd like to add these for your viewing pleasure! Let me add that the cactus was taken at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens and the pic of the Navy Blue Angels was taken from about a half mile away from our house!

I totally missed that you had posted another photo challenge Sabrina! I've had fun catching up on all the photos. First of all welcome to our new players.....Jessica and Angel. As Sabrina mentioned, we have been getting a little stale here. Not to say that our photos are stale or boring, but there have been only 3 or 4 of us posting. I always love to see photos from different areas of the world from me.
Sabrina, as always, your photos are great....I especially like the contrail one and the starlings on the wires!
Audrey, you know how much I love your blue skies and the mountains in the background! A great shot of the power lines converging.
Jessica, your railway photo is amazing. I love the feel of it in sepia....so vintage looking and full of nostalgia for me too.
Angel, I love your shots too. Love the angle of the cactus shot and the picture you took of the blue angels squadron is super......a perfect view and the jets actually look blue!

O.K. a few of these photos may be a little weak on the challenge theme, but this is what I got on my walk this afternoon.
First photo is of a split rail fence. Second one is of black and white lines on a caution sign. Third one is the perpendicular lines of the beautiful birch trees. and the last one is of a fallen tree, still left over from the tornado of 2005.

Jessica, we used to have a weekly challenge, but now it is every other week. Sabrina and I take turns setting the challenges. I will be posting a challenge this coming Tuesday. We've had 150 challenges thus far, so feel free to go back an do some old challenges if you wish. And if you have a great idea for a challenge, pm one of us and let us know. I, for one, am having trouble coming up with new challenges.

I can't believe all the snow, Ina! Those are perfect for the challenge - I like the soft dreamy feel of the third one, though I think the first is my favourite.
I actually took some this morning, but I have to find the cable for my P&S. My computer is currently awaiting a new motherboard, and till it arrives I'm making do with an old one with no card reader. I can't think if I've ever used the cable for the Canon, but it's not in the box, so I must have.

Angela, the cactus shot is a great idea for lines - makes me want to take a trip to our Botanic Gardens!

Found my camera cable after a lot of looking, though it turns out the Olympus cable actually did fit. So here are a few snaps from when I walked over to the shopping centre (mall) yesterday. I was glad I took the railing shadows on the way - there wasn't enough sunshine for any shadows on the way back.
The sign on the gate has always amused me - I'm not inclined to believe it, but it's a small gated compound and I suppose they are trying to deter people from climbing over. The hedge/fence is part of the same compound.
The striped bed linen was a big display-sized photo in the window of Next.

Ina and Sabrina, I like your photos. Is there really such a thing as anti-fence climbing paint or am I being gullible? I was up at the Grand Canyon for a couple of nights and will post a couple more line photos soon.

I try to keep the Master List, which is stickied at the top of the page, up to date pretty much, and there's a hyperlink to each challenge. Certainly feel free to post on any of the older challenges, as Armadillo has said.
The new challenges are every other Tuesday, but I can never remember whether it's the 2nd & 4th or the 1st and 3rd of the month - I think the former.

Well Sabrina, seeing as some months actually have 5 Tuesdays, it can change from month to month if we are actually doing every other week. I'll try to post tomorrow, but I'm still looking for a topic!

Sorry, I was saying every other in loose terms.
I think that because of the problem raised by a month with 5 Tuesdays, we agreed on either the 1st and 3rd or the 2nd and 4th - but I can never remember what we agreed without coming and looking at dates of previous challenges . I need to write it down somewhere!

I take the anti-climbing paint with a grain of salt myself!
Looking forward to the Grand Canyon shots.
