Default Photo Challenge #148 ~ Have some Fun with F {24/01/2012}

It's been a while since we had a letter challenge. I remember last time I started seeing what letters had already been used I got side-tracked because the first four were SATB, so I went into the world of song.
This time round we're having fun with f - and if you want to portray things like fun, fast and furious, they all count too .

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ Please jump in and join us in the photo challenges at anytime!

Fingers on a fretboard
Funnel - this is my jam-making funnel, extra wide for using in jam jars. It's marmalade orange season here and I've been busy making marmalade (and scrounging jars from everybody!).
Fan - an older photo from the archives

I'm kicking myself because I wanted to get three generations of fingers when we had friends staying over the weekend - but with two small toddlers it was something of a whirlwind of activity. But this photo expresses the friendship (sometimes ) between the two. Despite the similarity in age they are actually uncle and nephew!

Great challenge and great photos, Sabrina! I love the uncle and nephew photo....priceless! The fan is beautiful too, especially displayed on the black satin. Great shot of the fingers on the guitar too.
I'd better start looking for 'f' inspiration!

Those are cool - I wouldn't mind giving the ball a go myself. Love the dancing one, they certainly do look as if they're having enormous fun.

I was out visiting my aunt on Thursday. As well as the regular winter flowers like snowdrops and witch-hazel, she had two Fuchsia plants with blooms on them.

Footbridge over the railway. I should have thought of that when I was visiting my aunt; the views at the station there are rather more scenic than here.

The ubiquitous For Sale sign!! I took this one because when I met an SCS-er last year, she was very interested in the fact that an old church was used for a shop. In fact it's where I bought the angle-poise lamp that I use on my desk, but it has evidently been another casualty of the economic downturn.

Great photos Sabrina, and nary a spot of snow to be found! Was that fuscia outside? It just seems so strange to me, to see flowers and no snow. I would expect it down south, but not in Ireland! I was shoveling my driveway today and it was coming down faster than I could shovel it!

Snow that lies for more than a day is exceptional for us - the last two years were really unusual.
Fuchsia in January is pretty exceptional too, though, but it's been a very mild winter this year and the birds and a lot of flowers are confused by it. We have a cold snap with possible snow forecast for this weekend, though!

Sabrina, as you could probably tell, I was having trouble with this challenge. I was racking my brain all week, to find a good 'F' subject. Hello!.........give my head a shake.........what is the name of my town? Fergus! This morning I stuck my head out the front door and felt it was very frosty....my first photo is of the frosty driveway, before I shoveled it. The sun was shining, and it warmed up, so I went for a walk around noon. A black labrador dog was following me (second photo) next, I saw a Ford truck at the end of the road (the road leads to a trail that goes to a dam) so I took a picture of the front of the Ford. Later, I went into town and photographed the sign at the entrance of town.
Sabrina, this has been an unusually mild winter for us too, but this weekend we got a serious snow storm and then yesterday it snowed a lot again (I shoveled yesterday and today) Temperatures -7 to -12. Well, today, the sun came out and it got warmer up to +7 degrees (that's 45 in F. degrees)

Two more photos. First is of a shop in town, called Fergie's Fine Foods, which specializes in pre-made frozen soups, baked goods and some fish and meat. Second picture is of my foootprint....do you know how hard it is to get a good shot of a footprint? I must have taken over 20 shots, before I got one I was happy with. It's because the snow was so bright and the contrast so little, and as well, the sun was shining, so I couldn't see my screen at all.

I had Ford in mind as a possibility, and we briefly had frozen when I was out last Saturday, but I think I'd have needed a polariser to really capture it. I like your following dog (my sister's husband has always had black Labs) and the footprint looks great - but yes, I can imagine not easy!
I was also thinking front doors, but I haven't got round to that yet!

I meant to upload a photo I took for another challenge, but it's still sitting on my camera and I'm about to turn off the PC.
But I took these for F when I went to Farmleigh on Thursday morning. We had a couple of bitterly cold days - no snow, but heavy ground frost.

Quite tricky framing just Five windows with my point and shoot, but I just about managed to do it with no cropping required.

Glad to have you on board, mungojerry! Our players have been declining lately, so it's great to see more people joining our challenges. What kind of camera do you have?
I love the shot of the flock of birds.......what a lot of birds...the sky is black with them!

I used a Nikon D40x. The birds are starlings. There were literally acres of them. Weird but cool.

Yeh, rub it in won't you, Audrey........living in the land of perpetual sunshine in Arizona! You're making us all jealous!
Here is a photo I took last week. My amarylis plant is flowering right now, but I will just call it a 'flower' photo! It was backlit, so the picture is not 'fully focused' but I like it that way.

Ina, that amaryllis is lovely. I'd be thinking cards too, but I can see it would be a lovely print for the wall - on a canvas textured backing, even.

Default Family fun

I got a couple of shots this weekend. True winter has finally arrived in our area....the temperature is -10 right now, so families were out having fun on the outdoor ice surface in my DD's neighbourhood in Toronto. Although for some, it may have been a little less fun and more frustration!
It's in the same park where my DD got married last summer.

Nice skating shots Ina. No way would I be outside at -10 degrees shoot I had enough trying to deal with 17 above and mid 30s last week at the Canyon! I do remember when I lived in Chicago having to wait for the bus with a windshield factor of 26 below.

Cool, in every sense of the word. I remember my mother telling us about outdoor skating in Canada, and how they'd flood the playing fields so they'd freeze. It always seemed so amazing to us as kids, given that we rarely even have ice on puddles here!
-10 C is about as cold as it's ever been in my recollection, that was a year ago. So thankful for a milder winter this year .

Audrey, that was -10 C. degrees which is 14 degrees F. Most winters we have at least a week or more of temperatures at around -22 to -29 C degrees, but not this winter. On Sunday we still had residual winds left over from the tornadoes and storms in the midwest, and we ended up going across the street to buy toques to keep our heads warm.

Celsius or fahrenheit, it's still tooooo cold. In my opinion, anything below 80 degrees is too cold.
