Default Photo challenge #139 {09/06/11} 'Awesome rocks'

Photo challenge #139....awesome rocks! I hope y'all had a great Labour Day weekend. We certainly did! We drove up north to a friend's cottage. It's on the northern edge of the Niagara Escarpment, just south of Tobermory, Ontario. The road is cut throught the rocks at several places (didn't get a photo of that) and there are so many amazing rocks in that area. I never get tired of looking at them and taking photos. Do you have any unique rocks in your area? Lets see some pictures.
Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again -Have FUN!
My photos #1 an amazing rock that had a hole right through it. #2 a rock with a hole in the top,m where soil is collecting and will soon have plants growing in that cavity. #3 the black rocks along the shore. They have indentations and holes that were possibly formed by shells or sea creatures long, long ago.

A couple of other photos. On Sunday we packed a picnic and seven of us went over to Little Cove Provincial Nature Preserve, where there is a natural amphitheatre in the rock. The first photo has my friend's husband sitting on one of the steps. Second picture is of the way the rock carves into the bay. That is where two of my friends went swimming but it was a little too cool for me!

Except for maybe Prescott (north of Phoenix) I doubt if you'd find any rocks like that out here.

To me, the definition of a rock is a stone that one person can't lift. So maybe you could find a large landscape stone in someone's garden, or something similar? I'm not looking for rocks just like mine. I'd like to see the kind of rocks you have in your area. A lot of the rocks in our area are limestone.

Oh, I didn't think we were to try and capture your type of rocks in fact when I read the challenge one of my rocks immediately came to mind. I will be posting it later today.

Here are two of my rocks that I picked up on various outings into the "back country".

If you've been seeing some of my other uploads today , this is the same location as the brown dried lake shore that looked like coconuts. These are big limestone boulders - some nearly as tall as me.
The second photo shows a more eroded rock formation.
