Default Photo challenge 125 'Buds' {05/03/11}

Photo challenge #125 ...'Buds'. Spring is finally here and there are buds everywhere....in trees, flowers and even weeds. Come and share the budding growth in your part of the country (or world!). See the world through the eyes of your camera! And if all you can find is your 'best bud' the dog, or a Bud (Budweiser) at the local pub....that's fine too!

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN

My pictures were taken yesterday, when the sun was shining. hen I uploaded these photos this morning, I noticed that the daffodil bud photo is sort of blurry. The second picture is a hyacinth and I love the way I caught the sun shining from behind.

Oh man, you're making me nostalgic with those shots, Ina. Spring flew in and out here - bud time is almost over. I think there are some chives in the garden, though, if they haven't wilted from lack of watering. I'm sure I'll find more, too, though my day off is forecast to be rainy so I might not get to the park.

I like the hyacinth too . It's mostly the blue ones you see growing outdoors here.

I took a quick look at the chives - not too many buds left. I have one taken at f4 to to try pick out just one bud, and one at f18 to show more detail in the ones that have flowered.

Gee whillikers, no fair!! The last bud I saw was a month ago; can I submit that, please, please, please?!

Sabrina, are those the same kind of chives that are used in cooking?

Audrey, if you had the foresight to take 'bud' photos a whole month ago, go ahead and post them.

Ina, thank you. I took these the beginning of April at the Botanical Gardens. The last photo the bud is beginning to open.

Yes - cooking chives. But I forgot to water them - wasn't in the mode for it this early in the year, so there aren't many left that would taste of anything!
Cactus flowers always fascinate me - I'm glad you got a special dispensation to share those . I like the last one the best.

If I'm early enough getting in to work I detour past the mainline rail station to pick up a free newspaper. The cotoneaster is a mass of bloom these days. I'd more been noticing the fact that there were still some red berries peeking through the white bloom, but in view of Ina's challenge I went looking for buds instead of berries this morning.

So -I've sneaked a retrospective in too. I'd normally expect the magnolias to be coming out now - but this was April 19th and at that stage they were mostly already over!! We've been having problems with gorse fires due to all the warm dry weather, with the army drafted in to help.

Audrey, all the cacti buds make me homesick for Texas! I'm helping my DD with her wedding planning and costs, so I won't be able to make it to Austin this spring....but the Austinites will be here for the wedding in June, so that will be a bonus!
Sabrina, that magnolia bud is gorgeous! I can almost smell those blossoms!

okay this was shot this afternoon ( combines two challenges will find a link to the other board's... but theirs is basically shoot a depth of field out of focus background) and so this is the pear tree this afternoon in the yard. shot the blueberry bushes and one of the peach trees too but, going to try again tomorrow with maybe some other len's... this was done at 50MM on a 16-50MM so it was cropped a bit to bring out the details of the bloom. other then that it's straight out of the camera.

funny thing, my photos look GOOD (exposure wise) on my personal laptop, but my photos on facebook at work (also an HP puter but, a desktop kind, they look dark..) so, if I were to take in a card to have prints made would i have to tell them to tinker with them?

What is cotoneaster, are the berries edible? Love the magnolia bud.

It's a shrub, originally native to China. The most common one is cotoneaster horizontalis. Birds love the berries, which is why I was surprised to see any still left after the hard winter we had. But I suppose there aren't a lot of birds other than seagulls and pigeons around the train station .
Cotoneaster Horizontalis Hedge - Hedges Direct UK

I like that pear blossom - a real feel of Spring breaking into bud with the stark background.

I don't know about getting photos printed - I think any time I've had a whole bunch done in snapshot size they look true enough. But mine look totally different on the laptop to what they do on the PC, and even on the PC they look different if you're standing up or sitting down. If I ever have spare money I'd be interested in one of the monitor/printer calibrating tools - but more out of curiosity than because I print that many photos. I always wonder after I've carefully edited my photos what they look like to other people .

Well, I owe y'all an apology as I was totally wrong about no more buds around here! My creosote, that I never really ever look at, has these gray fuzzy things that I presume are buds since tiny little yellow flowers always appear. Now how could I forget all about the magnificent Saguaros that are now budding and some already blossoming?! Lawdy, lawdy, I swear I need a caretaker or something. Tomorrow or Saturday I will go out to my favorite Saguaro and photograph its buds. I took the creosote picture this morning.

I love seeing everyones colorful photos! Not a whole lot of color yet here in Alaska, unless you've been busy in the greenhouse getting an early start.

My picture is the buds on one of my willow trees in the backyard.

Those creosote buds are sweet looking! I was only just looking back at some of your saguaro photos the other day, Armadillo. I'll look forward to more now .
The willow is long over here - my willow bud photos from this year go back to February!! That's way earlier than normal.

I came in the top gate at work this morning instead of the bottom one, and spotted this potentilla.
It's the one that looks all folded in on itself that caught my eye, but I see there are lots of tightly closed little buds there too .

And another couple; today was the annual clean-up day in our local area, and I went out for an hour this morning picking up rubbish. I found these little field poppies just at the very end of our road, so I went back out with my camera after lunch. Too windy to get many good ones, though...

Love the challenge but I'm really gonna go out of the box with this one as we have had so much rain that it's hard to get outside to see if anything is budding or drowning!!

So my "buds" are best "buds". Cousins infact. My daughter (in the gold) and her cousin at a Fancy Nancy Tea Party today put on by our library for little girls ages 3-7. Right now both girls are 5 until Leah (cousin) turns 6 in July.

Hopefully next week the sun will be out and I can get out and see if I have any roses on my rose bush for some pictures!

I haven't been on-line for a couple of days, and boy! do I ever have a lot of catching up to do!
I'll start with the latest submissions and work my way up the page! Amber those little girls are gorgeous, and I love the way they interact with each other in the first photo! Love the second picture too, as you can really see how beautiful and sweet they are!
Sabrina, the photos of the poppy buds are amazing.....I love the hairs on the stems and buds....great photography job! The potentilla bud is so unusual, the way it unfolds. We have lots of potentillas here, but that is one thing I have never noticed. Your spring was much earlier than usual, our spring is about 3 weeks later than usual!
Lisa, I love the looks of the soft caterpillar looking willow buds against that gorgeous blue sky!
And Audrey, those blue ball buds of the creosote are lovely!
We've been short staffed at work this week, so I had to work two evening shifts instead of nights, and they are always so busy that I don't have time to spend on-line in the office. Then back to the night shift and I've been trying to do a bit of gardening too. Today was a washout, as I had to spend time talking to the insurance people and then driving to the next city to pick up a rental car. You see.....last night at 11:10 p.m. on my way to work, my car collided with a deer (a big buck!). The front end on the driver's side is smashed....headlight, hood, fender. I am really hoping that they will be able to fix it, as it is in excellent condition and has low mileage, but it is almost 7 years old, so I wouldn't get much from the insurance company for a payout. Ah well, the great blessing is that I am fine....not even a whiplash, despite the fact that it was a big imapact and spun my car around 360 degrees and sent the deer flying into the air. After about 5 minutes of lying in the middle of the road, the deer actually got up and trotted away.
Funny thing is, about 15 years ago, I hit a deer on the very same stretch of road and in the intervening years have never seen a deer in that area!

Goodness, Ina, I'm glad you're safe and sound after that and the only damage was to the car. I know the sort of impact you get with an animal on the road!! And it sounds as if the deer was OK too!
Isn't insurance weird - our car is old, in great condition but old. But we can't insure it for as little as it's actual value, we have to insure it for more. I bet you if we ever made a claim we'd never even get it's actual value let alone what we pay. I hope you get a good result from your claim.

Amber, those photos are great - the second one is cute but I love the dynamics in the first one - so little girls together .

Hi, love everyone's photos

As it is autumn (fall) here where I live, it is a bit tough finding buds as everything in my garden is winding down - in fact, it is VERY wintry - it's like we have skipped forward to mid-Winter - brrrr! Anyway, I did manage to find some buds on my daisy plant which emerged from some home-made compost that I had dug in around some other plants. I love daisies - they are so cheerful So here are a couple of little buds on my plant. It was a bit hard to take a photo of just the buds because the flowers are really small so I was having a hard time getting the camera in the right spot, so just took a pic of what I could manage.

I am sooooo mad! Yesterday afternoon I drove over to take pictures of my favorite Saguaro's buds and son of a gun if the road isn't having some kind of work and I couldn't get to "my" Saguaro. Lord only knows how long this will be going on and sure hope they aren't planning on paving the road. If I had known there was roadwork I would have gone in the morning. The best buds were on the west side of the road and I was aiming into the sun.

I was weeding one of the borders this morning and spotted a nigella (love-in-the-mist) bud; they've all self-seeded from last year.
And despite all the snow my little Pacific Irises which I grew from seed about six years ago survived and I was surprised and pleased to see the first bud last week.

Wow Sabrina! You are so far ahead of us! My nigella plants are just coming up. They have seeded themselves for at least 8 years in my flowerbed. Such a pretty color on the iris bud!

Taishea, I love white lilacs! The bud photo is so detailed! Wonderful. Your roses are beautiful too...love the fullness of the bloom and the buds are lovely!

Ina, Thank you so much! The first pic is of the purple lilacs...I never knew about the white lilac bush until I went out another day!
I have completely fallen in love with the macro feature on my camera......it even shows off the aphids on the roses....

Love the lighting in the morning, nice job. The only flowers I've been able to find around here lately are weeds, and I have plenty of those.
