Default Photo Challenge #115 # Straight Out of the Box {2/21/2011}

Ina has been down in TX and asked would I cover for her this week.
I decided we'd get back to technique for this.
Remember the old film camera days, when you had to get your shot as right as possible before you pressed the button? And you couldn't do any editing .
I'm looking for photos that are just as they are shot, un-edited, nothing added, nothing taken away. Once I got used to my camera and realised it needed +.7 of a stop most of the time, exposure became less of an issue; I just need to remember to check whether I'm on spot-metering or not.
My biggest problems are crooked horizons and not bothering to frame properly because I can always crop afterwards. So with that in mind I made a big effort on my last two outings to concentrate more before I took the shot.

Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN

These shots are from a nearby garden and the Botanic Gardens, where I took a trip on Saturday. Without DH I was certainly able to spend more time concentrating .

oh that looks so peaceful

and 99% of what i post is straight out of the camera, but this could change soon, I'm shooting just pure RAW now and learning lightroom. Stopped doing the RAW+jpeg because, in lightroom when you export something you can make a jpeg lickeity split.

I left a reply. Well, I wrote a reply - I must not have hit Post...
Those rolls are scrumptious looking, they made me feel hungry yesterday and I'd only just had lunch. I loved the butterfly almost camouflaged on the tractor seat too.

I'm home! Had a wonderful visit with my son and grandsons!
This is a great challenge Sabrina, although not too much of a challenge for me as I don't have a photo editing program. I will often zoom the photo in to get rid of extranious material. And I am still using my little point and shoot camera just because I always have it in my purse or pocket.
I love all of the photos above, special mention to the bridge photo by Sabrina and the butterfly photo by Taishea! One question Sabrina, is the bridge photo current? When we still have so much snow, it's hard to imagine it being spring in Ireland!

Here are a few of my unedited photos. Number one....my youngest grandson feeding a deer at the zoo. Second photo is of my son (gray shirt) and 12 year old grandson (yellow shirt) doing handstands in the park. third photo is of a goat at the zoo. I thought his coloring was unique and also, notice the dark spot beneath him. The 4 year old got the biggest kick out of watching this goat pee. He laughed and laughed!

I'm glad you had such a good visit and a dose of sunshine. It's time I went to a zoo again. Mind you, the last time we went to one, the baby tapir was peeing, just like your goat. Only let's just say that a tapir is more directional, and I am glad it wasn't me standing right behind him. Since it was a young boy, he was a bit more entertained .
Yep, that bridge was last Saturday. It was pretty cold for all the sunshine, you could see the vapour from the ducks' breath, and steam as the dew evaporated from plants, but lots of Spring in the air too.

About 98% of my photos are left unedited. Cropping is what I do the most, and sometimes adjusting color. That made this challenge easier for me since its the norm for me

I've been battling a nasty cold since the 18th so havent been out shooting a lot of photos. The 1st photo is a sweet visitor I had in my yard on the 18th, my husband said he sent her over as a little get well gift

The 2nd photo is from the 21st, I stuck my head out the door to get a pic of the bright blue skies. While the northern half of Alaska has been getting slammed with massive storms my area has been sunny and cold.

The 3rd pic is some frost I found on the plastic thats on the bedroom window. I loved the way it looked with the light from the rising sun behind it.

Most of my photos are also "right out of the box" as I'm not very skilled at Photoshop as yet. While most of the US has had a terrible winter, here in Florida it seems like spring. The first photo is our very first bloom from the bottlebrush tree in the back yard. The second, a first bloom on my yellow gerbera daisy plant. Enjoy Kay

Nice flower shots. Don't think Arizona will be getting much in the way of spring flowers this year. I'll have to go to the Botanical Gardens.

Great photos, and my kids would laugh too about the goat pee, and they're teenagers! LOL

Sarge, it's great to see your 'spring' flowers, but they would be called summer flowers here in Canada! I love the bottlebrush photo with the beautiful blue sky in the background!

I too loved the frost picture - it's like some exotic ice flower.
Blue skies on a cold crisp day make all the difference. Hope you're getting over your cold by now.

Those would be summer flowers here too - my dad has a bottlebrush in his garden. As for gerberas, I think they're primarily pot plants here, not even garden flowers...

Gosh, those saguaro in the snow are cool!!! We're back to freezing temperatures at night here too, but nothing as picturesque as that.
