Default Photo Challenge #111 {January 25/11} 'Newsworthy'

Photo challenge # 111 'Newsworthy'
I've not even managed to post a photo for last week's challenge and it's time for another challenge! I've been dying to share these photos, so I've created a challenge around them! Two weeks ago, there was an item that hit the news on our local TV station every day for a week. 6 giant beer vats had been shipped from Germany, where they were manufactured, destined for a brewery in Toronto. The ships docked in port in Hamilton, which is about 40 or 50 miles from the brewery in Toronto. They were then transported by truck, but due to the sheer size of each one, they had to travel on roads that had no overpasses and power lines had to be cut along the way. They only traveled at night and it took them a week to negotiate those 40 miles. I happen to live 50 miles in the other direction, but due to the fact that my son was visiting, we made a trip into Toronto and because the freeway was so busy, took a quieter highway. When I first saw 6 trucks along the side of that highway, I paid no notice, but suddenly, it dawned on me.....the giant beer vats! We stopped along the roadside and I took photos and my son took a video. A little bit of local news! What's been happening in your city, country, or neighbourhood that you have been witness to this week?

Photo Challenge Rules:

Yes, some of the news reports stated that the vats were being transported full of beer....not so. But when filled they will hold the equivalent of 1.4 million bottles of beer each.

No wonder you created a challenge around that - how memorable that you got to see them. Cutting power lines along the way - that's dedication!! I know that they had similar logistical problems moving some part of the new jumbo AirBus around Europe.

It's going to be a hard challenge, but as the government here collapsed last night and had to bring an election scheduled for March forward into February, it shouldn't take long before I spot the first election poster. That's the only idea I have at the moment.

Another newsworthy event in our neighbourhood. It won't be featured on the 6 o'clock news, but there will be a birth notice in our lo9cal paper. My next door neighbours had a beautiful baby girl on Friday night. Little Olivia is their first child and is less than 6 pounds, but she's a cutie. I got to hold her last evening at work. The photo isn't too clear, as I didn't want to use a flash and also didn't want to wake her.

I'm sorry I haven't found anything for this - it's a case of being in the right place at the right time. You seem to be doing well with that .

Default Salt

Wow, this really was challenging. But I finally found something. What has been making the news around here is a shortage of salt for the roads. We have had above average snowfall so far this winter and it is creating a shortage. My picture is of a bag of salt for our driveway. Not exactly the same as the road salt but I think it will work. Thanks for looking.

I have a feeling there will be lots of ice and snow shots as the biggest winter storm in our history gets going. It has been sleeting all morning. then we will be getting a foot or more of snow....

I like the way you can just see the logo with the lady - it adds a great bit of colour.
Our local authorities ran out when we had snow last January, but come the heavy falls in November and December they were more prepared. And work is BRILLIANT, as soon as you're in the gate you know it will be salted even when there's just a heavy frost. I saw whole pallet-loads of salt down in the loading yard one day.
Now snow-shovels, that's what ran out here because hardly anybody needed them till last year .

Kimyjo, I like your take on this challenge. The bag looks great with a bit of snow on it.
Sabrina, we will certainly be needing our snow shovels by tomorrow. According to the news, we have a huge snowstorm and blizzard heading our way and it's already hit all the states between Texas and here. Now, that could be a news item....stuck in the snow storm, for anyone between there and here!

Haven't "played" in a while but hoping to be back in the swings of it soon. I guess the news worthy news around here is that spring is almost here. We had so much snow this winter that everyone is ready for spring. And spring has come in with rain, rain, rain. So much rain that we are tired of rain now! lol And with rain comes MUD! If any reporters had been out Tuesday of this week, I know they would have put these shots in the paper to report spring is on it's way!

Amber, welcome back. All I can say when I see these photos is "Boys will be boys!" I imagine there will be lots of extra laundry to be done!
Our snow isn't all gone yet, but it has been melting and we've had rain too. My sump pump is cycling on and off about every 75 seconds. Good thing that I invested in a really good one a couple of years ago, and I also have a battery operated backup. Basement flooding two times in a lifetime is more than enough!

Amber, did you hose the boys off before putting the clothes in the washing machine?

Only one was mine! lol Sent the other one packing back to his house where he tried to go in the front door! Hubby stripped ours down to his skinnies before he got to run inside the house wrapped in a towel. Of course we had to go somewhere that night so his clothes are still coaked in mud. Guess I should go spray them off outside! LOL

Oh my, that is mud and then some - I bet they had fun, though. I hope that you see some more uplifting signs of Spring soon.
