Default Photo challenge #107 {12/28/2010}

Photo challenge #107....Bells. My friend MelissaL (from SCS) and I were tossing around ideas for this week's challenge and we have been hearing a lot about 'ringing in the new' this week, so she suggested bells. I have been working night shifts since Christmas Eve, so haven't had a chance to go out and take photos, but I do have one that was taken in October. I will add new ones later in the week. Give this your own interpretation, there are lots of different shapes and forms of bells. A Happy New Year to all of you! One of my resolutions (among several) for the new year will be to challenge myself to learn more about the technical aspect of photography, and learn just what my Canon SLR can do!
Photo Challenge Rules:
~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN

Ah - a church bell will be a bit harder for me to come up with till I get into town, but I know I can jump in on this today with something else. My half-sister's best friend used to be a bell-ringer in one of the cathedrals in town.

One glass bell - and was that ever a challenge to photograph. I tried three different backdrops and two different lighting set-ups, and this is the best shot.

One bell ornament from the Christmas tree. These are ones that date back to our first Christmas together, I have 9 brass ornaments and have to carefully count them off the tree when we're taking it down.

Back to the church bells - I have a cousin who's business is supplying electronic chimes and rings for church bells .

Sabrina, you managed to get a great shot of the glass bell! I love the brass ornament from your tree. I found a piece of jewelery in a store window. The photo is not very good, as I took it through the window and it was getting a bit darker outside. Then, as I walked a little further down the street, I saw this truck.....a funny coincidence!

A lot of our city names derive from the countries where the founders came from. Our town, Fergus, was settled by Scottish people. Kitchener/Waterloo was settled by a lot of Germans.....they have a fantastic Octoberfest! As a matter of fact, before the first world war, Waterloo was called Berlin, but after the war (or during) they changed it to Waterloo!

Seeing as I had my camera out for other challenges, I snagged this picture of a vintage bell ornament that I have on my Christmas tree. Yes...it's still up. Just not quite ready to take it down yet.

This is a "bell" I photographed yesterday in Sedona. After seeing everyone's bells, it occurred to me that I have at least two that I can photograph right here in my own house! I swear, sometimes I am so dense that I should have a caretaker or something!!

I love the red rock in AZ and Sedona is such a gorgeous area. I was out there with DH in 2005 and really want to get back there again soon. Nothing like the desert heat to warm you to the core.

But it hasn't been that warm these past numerous weeks
About a week and a half ago it was below freezing in Phoenix; had to protect the water pipes to keep them from freezing!

Melissa, love the photo of your bell....it's so clear and distinct. cool, that you can see your reflection in it. I also like the blurred lights on the tree.
Audrey, that bell rock is stupendous! The red rock against the blue sky is breathtaking. I just HAVE to travel there and see it someday (soon, I hope!)

Wow, what a generous offer! Thank you and I hope to take you up on that.....wouldn't that be great? But don't held your breath yet. I probably won't do it until I retire, which will be somewhere between 1 1/2 to 2 years from now.

Audrey, those bells are lovely! I love the unicorn one! The angel one is pretty too. Is it a vintage piece?

No vintage although I guess both are getting there since they are both 15 years old.

I like the unicorn one too, and I loved Hulda's angel bear. Surprising, because neither of them is my style now, but I guess they appeal to the inner child that would have adored them.
I was showing DH all your C photos, Armadillo - he was pretty impressed, and then wanted to see what cards you made . We liked the ones stamped on clouds, but there was one with a die-cut hummingbird on a dark background that was his favourite.

Default Twin Bells

I almost forgot I have these. One of my sisters collects bells so of course these came from her.

I got this for Christmas from a friend there was a card with it that said whenever you hear a bell ring an angel gets his wings.

At last. I have looked at every single church I've walked past in town, and not seen a bell. I saw one when we were driving down to my brother's house but not anywhere to stop.
This is the church in my old home town. When I zoomed in I could see a date - just in the 1920s, so it's not all that old.
