Default Photo challenge # 105 'Snow white'

Photo challenge # 105 'Snow white'. Sabrina has a lot on her plate this week, so I have offered to post the challenge. This challenge can be interpreted in several different ways....you can choose the color white, the snow, or the character of snow white. Hopefully, this won't limit people who live in warmer climates.

Photo Challenge Rules:

~ Have FUN with this! There are no right or wrong photos.
~ Take as many pics as you want, share the few you like best.
~ Please share only current photos, taken after the challenge was issued.
~ We CANNOT upload our photos to the SCS galleries. You may upload them as an attachment or host them from your blog or any online photo hosting site. Just provide the direct link to the photo in your post and also make sure that it is not from a password protected album.
~ Just a reminder that we are a family-friendly site if you are sending others off this site to view photos in an album hosted elsewhere.
~ You can jump in and start any of the photo challenges at anytime..
~ Again - HAVE FUN
My photo is of my backyard showing all the snowfall we had this past week.

Ha, our snow has finally melted - today was the first day for over two weeks that DH risked taking the motorbike out. But white in some other form should be possible, and I even have one other idea that's just sneaked into the back of my mind. Thanks for setting the challenge this week, Ina.
And what a beautiful snowy scene - perfect for a Christmas card .

Well - I am glad the rules say have fun and that there are no wrong photos. For our snow had all melted by the time Ina posted this, except for some large dirty piles by the road. And while we still have below-freezing temperatures, we've only had the lightest dusting of snow which didn't turn anything white - we are grateful.
So here are some cards from an old card game which belonged to my mother when she was young . The game was issued in 1938, so just a year after the film came out. I believe I remember my mother saying it was the first film she ever saw.

HEy- on the subject of snow....try this technique....I did this morning---found it in one of the Photo Mags I buy that is published in the UK so Sabrina you may have already read about it....
Need gray/grayish sky and little to no sunlight(at least no direct sunlight).
Outdoors
Set white balance to Tungsten.....shoot a scene , shoot ice crystals...it will have a blue cast.....
I was blown away by the change..... will post some tomorrow.
Don't use your flash...

I was glad to see the fog/ice this morning though I know it causes problems for those who must work outside or travel the roads to work......we haven't had so much as a hint of snow and I am thinking of immigrating to some location that has.

Grey skies, no sunlight - no problem. I'll have to see if I can find ice anywhere - or else just find an old photo and change the white balance in RAW .

Sabrina, how do you convert a photo to raw or is it that you always shoot in raw?

I didn't quite take this "for the challenge...." but I thought ya'll might enjoy a peek into my winter, anyhow!!! Though it looks tilt-shift, it's not - I just blurred the area around the main focus to give it a dreamy look. What do you think? (creative criticism appreciated here! your real opinion.)

Uhhhh... where did the picture go...? Hang on... =)

I usually shoot in RAW and jpeg. I use the jpegs for quick editing of cards and stuff like that, and keep the RAW files for my nature photography where I might want to do more work. I know I could switch between them, but I couple of times I got caught with RAW off and regretted it, so I use them both as default.

I like the look, although to me it's not dreamy. It looks more like a stage setting to me, with different layers of backdrops. Fabulous view!

Not what I wanted today - arghh.
Thank goodness I did all the essential shopping on my day off last week, but I was still kind of hoping to get out today. And I can't do any washing because I guess the water pipe out to the washing machine in the shed is frozen.

Is the snow what you didn't want????
We could use all you want to send us......moisture in any form would actually be a great Christmas present for all the farmers in this region.
Try to have a Merry Christmas anyway....

Nice shot Sabrina! I've been seeing on the news all about the snow woes of the U.K and Europe, so I am assuming Ireland also got dumped on! Does this mean that you couldn't even get out to work? Or were you not scheduled to work today? To look at the silver lining of the cloud, at least you will have a white Christmas.

We're not nearly as bad as the UK - they've been having it for the last few days, ours really only started last night. But no flights since mid morning today, and DH's brother is due to arrive from Australia for Christmas - hope he makes it. My sister is worrying about getting up to Dublin with the turkey for her in-laws.
I wasn't scheduled to work today, or tomorrow. I just hope they don't cancel any days, I haven't had very many this month and I need Thursday! DH was told to leave after lunch, though he stayed on to get a job he was working on finished.

I wish I could send some snow or rain, Pansy. There was a tongue-in-cheek offer of large amounts of snow on FreeCycle a couple of weeks back, and recently a reply saying Snow taken, thanks to all who replied. But it's all back again.

Destination - snow. Our train line serves the main city centre terminus and also the financial area, but in this sort of weather, to save problems with having to keep switching the points, they divert all the financial centre ones to *our* terminus.
The other two photos were both taken along the canal. Someone is living in one of those houseboats at least even in this weather - I could see footprints along the walkway, and hear some heating. Brrr.

If I'd just waited a few days I didn't need to use lateral thinking on this one .

I love these 'snow' shots! The swans don't seem to mind the cold. I think it would be cool to live in a house boat for awhile....even in winter!

wow great shots. Ina, you have a winter wonderland in your back yard! Sabrina I knew as soon as I saw your cards that they had to be vintage. I love everything vintage those are super sweet. Hannah I love the soft coolness in your barn photo. I have always loved barns & would shoot them as often as I could find them. Sabrina the water pipes being frozen isnt fun but your snow pictures sure are. I like the water but would never want to live on a boat in the winter. BRRRRRRR is right.

These pictures are about two or three minutes from me. To get snow pictures I would probably have to drive about three or four hours. I am sort of considering taking a run up to the Flagstaff area around Tuesday or Wednesday next week or maybe after New Year's. The nice thing about Arizona is that when you miss snow, you can drive for a few hours, say hi snow goodbye snow, then go home Years ago I had a good friend that lived across the street from me and we drove up north, made a snowbear and had a picnic, lots of fun.

Love those snowy white clouds. Funny how that's what I'd like now and you wouldn't mind snow or rain. It's so fascinating to see a landscape totally alien to anything we have here.

When I was coming back from the park yesterday I met an Indian guy out de-icing his car, so he was wondering did I belong to a local camera club. I said no, I did weekly challenges on a forum and it was a great way of seeing other countries and cultures.

Not snowy white but white. Every year one of the suburbs collects tumbleweeds year long then form them into a giant tree. It's sprayed with a flame retardant then painted white and lights put on it. They even have a tree lighting ceremony. This morning I decided to drive out there and take a couple of pictures.

Audrey, it's so funny to me to see that tumbleweed tree, but I guess that's creativity....to use what's on hand and improvise! As Sabrina says, it's cool to learn a little bit about the cultures and habits of other climates and countries.

I like the flashes of colour from the canoes or whatever they are - a nice contrast in the snow scene.

Anne Marie, that is so pretty! Is the snow still there? We have lost most of our snow, due to warm temperatures and rain all night. And I wanted to take someone skiing!

It's amazing how the dgos seem to love the snow - Cocoa has a bit of a surprised look on her face though! We met a Siberian Husky out with his owner one of our snowy days, and although he was born and bred here, he certainly seemed to be in his element.
Always love seeing your photos, Armadillo - probably the only way I'll ever travel that part of the world.
I can enjoy that snow scene now ours is gone.
