Simple Blessings

We should thank the Lord every day for everything!

A roof over you head
Your next meal
We assume it'll be there
To us it's no big deal

So many things
we take for granted
We think life goes on
As we planned it.

Where will we shower
To keep our bodies clean
We never question
The unforeseen

Help us remember
To count each way we're blessed
The simple pleasures
We daily attest

The loved ones
That are with me here today
Will help me face
Another day

None of us are
Guaranteed tomorrow
So live for today
And rebuke the sorrow

Thank you Lord
For everything
Jehova Jirah
My Precious King!

HOW OLD IS GRANDMA?

The answer is at the end – it might surprise you.

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother about current
events. The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the
shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things, in general.

The Grandma replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born, before
television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, contact lenses,
Frisbees, and the pill.

There were no credit cards, laser beams or ballpoint pens.

Humans had not invented pantyhose, air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes
dryers, and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air, and humans
had yet to walk on the moon.

Your Grandfather and I got married first and then lived together.

Every family had a father and a mother.

Until I was 25, I called every man older than I, "Sir"- - and after I
turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir."

We were before computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group
therapy.

Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong, and to
stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger
privilege.

We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.

Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening
breeze started.

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and
weekends - not purchasing condominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, or
yogurt.

We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on
our radios.

And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to
Tommy Dorsey.

If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan' on it, it was junk.

The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.

Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.

We had 5&10-cent stores, where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10
cents.

Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a
nickel.

And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough
stamps to mail one letter and two postcards.

You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, but who could afford one?

Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day, "grass" was mowed, "coke" was a cold drink, "pot" was something
your mother cooked in, and "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.

"Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,

"Chip" meant a piece of wood,

"Hardware" was found in a hardware store, and

"Software" wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a
husband to have a baby.

No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap.

and how old do you think I am ???.....

This Woman would be only 67 years old!

It is surprising how fast life moves and changes. This can at times make us feel insecure. How comforting to know that we are connected to the changeless. God's love is constant and unchanging, God's help is always steady and firm. No matter how much our outer world changes, our connection to God never changes.

Sunday Funnies

"If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit." Galatians 5:25

My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned. Couldn't concentrate.

Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the ax.

After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it. Mainly because it was a so-so job.

Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was exhausting.

I wanted to be a barber, but I just couldn't cut it.

Then I tried to be a chef. I figured it would add a little spice to my life but I just didn't have the thyme.

I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have any patients.

I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.

I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company, but the work was just too draining.

So then I got a job in a gymnasium, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.

Next, I found being an electrician interesting, but the work was shocking.

After many years of trying to find steady work I finally got a job as a historian until I realized there was no future in it.

My last job was working at Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

Can really relate to this one....

Are You Listening for God

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
– Mark 13:31

The is so much “noise” in this world that keeps us from hearing God. Our jobs, family troubles, our hobbies. What are you doing that might be drowning out the voice of God? What could you do to quiet all that noise and focus your attention on the Lord?

The Telegraph

Back when the telegraph was the was the fastest method of long-distance communication, a young man applied for a job as a Morse Code operator.

Answering an ad in the newspaper, he went to the office address that was listed. When he arrived, he entered a large, busy office filled with noise and clatter, including the sound of the telegraph in the background. A sign on the receptionist’s counter instructed job applicants to fill out a form and wait until they were summoned to enter the inner office. The young man filled out his form and sat down with the seven other applicants in the waiting area. After a few minutes, the young man stood up, crossed the room to the door of the inner office, and walked right in. Naturally the other applicants perked up, wondering what was going on. They muttered among themselves that they hadn’t heard any summons yet. They assumed that the young man who went into the office made a mistake and would be disqualified.

Within a few minutes, however, the employer escorted the young man out of the office and said to the other applicants, “Gentlemen, thank you very much for coming, but the job has just been filled.”

The other applicants began grumbling to each other, and one spoke up saying, “Wait a minute, I don’t understand. He was the last to come in, and we never even got a chance to be interviewed. Yet he got the job. That’s not fair!”

The employer said, “I’m sorry, but all the time you’ve been sitting here, the telegraph has been ticking out the following message in Morse Code: ‘If you understand this message, then come right in. The job is yours.’ None of you heard it or understood it. This young man did. The job is his.”

We live in a world that is full of busyness and clatter, like that office. People are distracted and unable to hear the still, small voice of God as He speaks in creation, in the Scriptures, or in the life and work of Jesus Christ. Are you tuned in to God’s voice? Do you hear Him when He speaks to you? Are you listening? “This is my Son, whom I love . . . Listen to Him!”

DISCOVERING FRIENDSHIP

"A man's growth is seen in the successive choirs of his friends."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

There is a story about a man who was exploring some caves by the seashore.
In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay
balls. It was like someone had rolled up some clay and left them out in the
sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but they intrigued the man, so he
took the bag out of the cave with him.

As he strolled along the beach, to pass the time, he would throw the clay
balls, one at a time, out into the ocean as far as he could throw. He
thought little about it until he dropped one of the balls and it cracked
open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone. Excited, the man
started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar
treasure.

He found hundreds of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he
had left, then it struck him... Instead of hundreds of dollars in
treasure, he could have taken home thousands, but he just threw them away.

You know, sometimes, it's like that with people. We look at someone, maybe
even ourselves, and we see just the crusty clay vessel. It doesn't look like
much from the outside. It isn't always beautiful or sparkling, so we
discount it; we see that person as less important than someone more
beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the
time to find the treasure hidden inside that person by God.

There is a treasure in each and every one of us. The Bible says we are
wonderfully made. I don't think God means just our physical bodies. I
think God means our spiritual selves, which are sometimes hidden from
others by the “earthen vessel”. But if you take the time to get to know
that person, and if you ask God to show you that person the way God sees
them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth.

"Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies." Aristotle

The glory of friendship is not only the outstretched hand, nor the kindly
smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that
comes to one when he or she discovers that someone else believes in them
and is willing to trust them with their friendship.

Be sure to read to the end...

A Spittin' Image

The doctor said to a new father, "You have a cute baby."

"I bet you say that to all the new parents," smiled the proud daddy.

"No," he replied, "just to those whose babies really are good-looking."

"So what do you say to the others?"

I say, "He's the spittin' image of you."

Do you suppose they teach that in medical school?

I'm told that a young mother enlisted the help of a friend in taking her infant identical twins to the doctor. Since the waiting area was full, the two women, each with a twin, were seated on opposite sides of the room. After a few minutes someone commented, "It's amazing how much those two babies look alike!"

The friend was quick to reply, "Well, they should. They have the same father." I haven't heard whether the misunderstanding was ever straightened out.

With identical twins, it's easy to see that they are the "spittin' image" of each other. Actually, that term "spittin' image" stems from an old misunderstanding itself. Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus stories, explained that when an American slave seemed to be saying, "spittin' image," he or she was actually saying, "spirit and image," as: "'He's the spi'it 'n' image of his daddy." It meant more than they merely looked alike. Spirit and image - alike, inside and out.

And what makes it even more interesting is the ancient truth from the monk Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153), who said, "What we love we shall grow to resemble." Or put another way, we become the spi'it 'n' image of that which we hold dear. We are shaped by that which we admire most, and by the people we love most.

It works like this: Those who admire success may become "the image of success." Those who admire ambition will, to even a casual observer, look ambitious, perhaps even driven. Those who admire and love the gentle saints of their faith will, more than likely, remind others of those same saints in their attitudes, words and actions. Day by day, we become the spi'it 'n' image of the people we befriend, admire and love.

An unknown writer tells a story about her grandmother and a person she deeply admired. The story goes like this:

"My grandmother was born in a small west Texas farming town on August 26, 1929, two months and three days before Black Tuesday, the stock market crash that started the Great Depression. As the youngest daughter of sharecroppers, who earned their living by picking cotton, she knew the meaning of barely getting by. Times were tough and she learned to never waste anything.

Her Uncle Jess was a compassionate man who always treated her with kindness. Each time she would visit him, she always left with the same feeling: I am special. After all, she was the only person who was allowed to drink from his special pink drinking glass. One day, she took the pink glass out to the water cooler, a special room that stored and cooled the water generated from the windmill. Out in the water cooler, she dropped the glass. Looking down at the hundreds of glass fragments, she began to cry. She had been entrusted with this special glass and now it was broken.

Her crying was interrupted when she heard Uncle Jess call out, 'Ruby Nell, I was thinking. I'm tired of that silly old pink glass. Would you please break it for me?'

She ran back to him calling out, with the enthusiasm that only a six-year-old can summon, 'I did it, Uncle Jess! I did it!'"

How many times did Ruby pass that story along out of admiration for her uncle? How often did she remember his kindness and compassion and show the same to others? Over the years of a long life, how many times would she choose to believe in herself because of the way Uncle Jess always made her feel: that she was special? And when life was cruel and people let her down, how many times did she find enough strength to set aside anger and respond in kindness, because that is what Uncle Jess would have done?

As little Ruby Nell grew up, she could do worse than to grow into the spi'it 'n' image of Uncle Jess.

We are shaped by that which we admire most, and by the people we love most.

Who do you love and admire? What qualities draw you to them? And how can you bring more people like that into your life?

Thought I'd share this:

BRINGING LIGHT TO HALLOWEEN

By Steve Crotts

It’s not every day one gets to watch a good mother at work!

Sarah has four children. Concerned that Halloween has become so dark -- "vampires, ghouls, zombies, decaying bodies, devils ” -- she’s decided to shed a little of Christ’s light on it all.

Her children all gathered around the kitchen table. Each child had a pumpkin. As they cut the top off their pumpkin each child prayed, “Open my mind so I can learn about You, Lord.”

Then they cleaned out the pumpkin insides and discussed how Jesus takes away all our sins and forgives us of all the wrong we do.

They next cut the pumpkins’ eyes. As it was done they asked God to open their eyes so they could see truth in God’s word, the Bible.

The nose was carved. They expressed gratitude. And they asked mercy for turning up their noses at all the good Lord has done for them.

Then they cut the ears. And they read Bible verses about hearing God’s story, believing.

As the mouth was cut, each shared stories of laughter and praise. They asked God how they could share His love with the fearful, the unbelieving.

A candle was placed inside each pumpkin, a reminder to “shine” in kindness to others in a lonely, dark, scary world.

This done, they each placed their pumpkin on the front porch. Then they gathered round for cider and cookies. And they sang a hymn of praise.

Wow! What a privilege to grow up in a home like that! Others stumble in darkness. These children walk in light.

Dear Friend,

As You got up this morning, I watched you and hoped you would talk to me, even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me for something good that happened in your life yesterday but I noticed you were too busy trying to find the right outfit to put on and wear to work or class. I waited again. When you ran around the house or dorm getting ready I knew there would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello, but you were too busy. At one point you had to wait fifteen minutes w/ nothing to do except sit in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet. I thought you wanted to talk to me but you ran to the phone and called a friend to get the latest gossip. I watched as you went to school and work and I waited patiently all day long. With all your activities, I guess you were too busy all day to say anything to me. I noticed that before lunch you looked around, maybe you felt embarrassed to talk to me, that is why you didn’t bow your head. You glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you didn’t. That’s okay. There is still more time left, and I have hope that you will talk to me even yet.

You went home and it seems as if you had lots of things to do. After a few of them were done, you turned on the TV or the net; I don’t know if I like TV or computers or not, just about anything goes there & you spend a lot of time each day in front of them, not thinking about anything-just enjoying the show. I waited patiently again as you watched TV and ate your meal but again you didn’t talk to me. At bedtime I guess you felt too tired. After you said goodnight to your family you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no time. That’s okay because you may not realize that I am always there for you. I’ve got patience, more than you will ever know. I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well. Because I love you so much, a long time ago I left a wonderful place called Heaven and came to Earth. I gave it up so that I could be ridiculed and made fun of. and I even died so you wouldn’t have to take my place. I love you so much that I wait everyday for a nod, praise or thought or a thankful part of your heart. It is hard to have a one-sided conversation. Well you are getting up again and once again I will wait with nothing but love for you hoping that today you will give me some time. Have a nice day!

Love Always, Your Friend,
Jesus

Voice of Eternal Love

Long before any other words were spoken to us, “You are mine” was spoken to the depths of our hearts. And this is why we pray—to hear that voice again.

NINETEEN TRUTHS

"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life."
Proverbs 4:23

1. If you feel far away from God, guess who moved?

2. Fear knocked. Faith answered. No one was there.

3. What you are is God's Gift to you. What you become is your gift to God.

4. I am God's Melody of life and God Sings God’s Song through me.

5. We can never go where God is not, and where God is, all is well.

6. No matter what is happening in your life, know that God is waiting for
you with open arms.

7. God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

8. Do your best and then sleep in peace. God is Awake.

9. God has a purpose and plan for me that no one else can fulfill.

10. The Will of God will never take you to where the Grace of God will not
protect you.

11. We are responsible for the effort, not the outcome.

12. We set the sail; God makes the wind.

13. Begin to weave and God will give you the thread.

14. When God says "no", it's because God has something better in store for
you.

15. The task ahead of us is never as great as the Power behind us.

16. Prayer: don't bother to give God instructions, just report for duty.

17. It's my business to do God's Business and it's God’s Business to take
care of my business.

18. Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm.

19. How come you're always running around looking for God? God's not lost.

Sunday Funnies

"All the children of God shouted for joy." Job 38:7

While I sat in the reception area of my doctor's office, a woman rolled an
elderly man in a wheelchair into the room. As she went to the receptionist's
desk, the man sat there, alone and silent. Just as I was thinking I should
make small talk with him, a little boy slipped off his mother's lap and
walked over to the wheelchair.
Placing his hand on the man's, he said, I know how you feel. My mom makes
me ride in the stroller too..'

*****

Out bicycling one day with my eight-year-old granddaughter, Carolyn, I got
a little wistful. 'In ten years,' I said, 'you'll want to be with your
friends and you won't go walking, biking, and swimming with me like you do now.
Carolyn shrugged. 'In ten years you'll be too old to do all those things
anyway.'

******

Working as a pediatric nurse, I had the difficult assignment of giving
immunization shots to children..
One day, I entered the examining room to give four-year-old Lizzie her
needle.
'No, no, no!' she screamed.
'Lizzie,' scolded her mother, 'that's not polite behavior.'
With that, the girl yelled even louder, 'No, thank you! No, thank you!

******

Just before I was deployed to Iraq , I sat my eight-year-old son down and
broke the news to him.
'I'm going to be away for a long time,' I told him. 'I'm going to Iraq ..'
'Why?' he asked. 'Don't you know there's a war going on over there?'

*****

Paul Newman founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children stricken
with cancer, AIDS, and blood diseases. One afternoon, he and his wife, Joanne
Woodward, stopped by to have lunch with the kids. A counselor at a nearby
table, suspecting the young patients wouldn't know Newman was a famous movie
star, explained, That's the man who made this camp possible. Maybe you've seen
his picture on his salad dressing bottle?'
Blank stares.
'Well, you've probably seen his face on his lemonade carton.'
An eight-year-old girl perked up. 'How long was he missing?'

*****

... And my personal favorite ...God's Problem Now:

His wife's graveside service was just barely finished, when there was a
Massive clap of thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lightning,
accompanied by even more thunder rumbling in the distance.
The little, old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, "Well, she's
there."

Thought to share this once again....

Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio .

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and
parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7.. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16.. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't
save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will
this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28.. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything... Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd
grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42.. The best is yet to come....

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

HAPPY VETERANS DAY!

Much thanks and sincere gratitude to all who have served and are serving.

Heroes

By Jared Jenkins

In war, there are lives risked and lives taken

Men and women giving their best to defend what they love

They defend their country

Their honor

Their people

Some call them soldiers

Others call them heroes

Our veterans have risked their lives for us

They have lived through hell and fought with honor

Many have killed

And regret doing so

For every life, there is a soul

For every soul, there is a life

For those who have died, we show great appreciation and remembrance

For those who live, along with them live the horrific memories of battle

Some, memories of defeat

Some, memories of victory

Our veterans were more than soldiers

They were, and still are heroes
.

These inspiring words could be applied to any circumstance in our lives.

Welcome To Holland
by
Emily Perl Kingsley

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It’s just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

Look Around You
The greatest thing each of us offers the world is ourselves, not a whirlwind of activity. People all around us are starving for love. People need our company, our presence and our comfort.

Termination
============

Several years ago, I worked in the C-band industry in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
C-band is big dish satellite television.

I was a customer service rep, when one night rather late, I got a phone call
from a customer wanting to cancel service.

Upon looking at the account, I noticed the customer had always paid on time
and had expressed great joy with our service.

Normally I would have just terminated the service and gone on to another
call, but something in the caller's voice did not sound right.

I asked him if there was something wrong with our service, had we made him angry or done something out of the ordinary to make him cancel service.

He paused for a minute and then expressed that he had no idea why he was
about to tell me what he was up to.

His wife had run off with a younger man, leaving behind a husband and two
children, two little girls, 6 and 9.

He said he was canceling not just his TV service but all his services and
utilities.

He was planning to commit suicide.

I often wondered why I was in that job, there really wasn't a challenge and
the hours were terrible. But I took the time to hear the desperation in this
man's voice, his reaching out when it seemed no one was listening.

I spent about an hour on the phone with this man, I shared the love of our
Lord and Savior with him. I reminded him of his two daughters, they were
gifts from God and he was only feeling sorry for himself.

I shared my story of how I had lost my first wife in an auto accident,
leaving me with two babies, 3 and 5 years old. Sure it was hard, but the
Lord met my needs and was there every step of the way.

I placed a call to the minister of this young man and expressed my concerns
and asked if the pastor would call him that night. He said he would, and he was glad I had called since he knew nothing of the problem.

I thank God that I was in the right place at the right time. I no longer ask why am I here. God knows where that next phone call will come from.

This young man called me back about a month later and thanked me for taking a little time. He promised me he and the girls were fine, going to church, and putting their lives back together, with God at the controls.

Have a blessed day!

The Knots Prayer
Author known to God

Dear God,
Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart, and my life.
Remove the have nots, the can nots and the do nots that I have in my mind.

Erase the will nots, may nots, might nots that may find a home in my heart.

Release me from the could nots, would nots and should nots that obstruct my life.

And most of all, Dear God, I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart and my life all of the "am nots" that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not good enough.
Amen

THE STORMS OF LIFE

"Thou, O God, art my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love."
Psalms 59:17

I love thunderstorms. Perhaps, this is because it never seems to rain in Texas anymore. The other day, there was a thunderstorm, and I told my daughter that I was having a spiritual experience. I love thunderstorms – when I am not in them, but rather watching them with a sure sense of security because I am inside – safe, warm, and dry.

Taking shelter during a storm is a sensible thing to do. You can apply
the same action of seeking shelter from the turmoil of your life. You can
know that many of your hardships, upsets, or difficulties would be better
met by your nonresistance, rather than by your direct participation.

Knowing that God is your present help in the time of trouble, you can take
heart as you pray. You can be in the presence of the peace, power, and
protection of God while a stormy experience passes. When you retreat into
the security of God's presence of love, you are assured that this, too,
shall pass. As you let God takeover, your faith in God increases, as does
your ability to work and to pray from a center of peace and power.

During a storm in your personal life, there may be times when peace of
mind seems impossible to obtain. You may have decisions to make, work
that awaits your attention, or appointments to keep. Busy activities
often make the world seem like a place of disorder.

At these times, take shelter in God. Remember that God is never confused
and is with you in times of trouble; and no matter how changeable the
world is, God is eternal and changeless. God abides with you as perfect
peace and harmony. God protects you during your storms of life.

As you focus your attention on God in moments of need, you experience
God's presence and power.

You are resting within the shelter of the Almighty. Within the shelter
you are no longer confused. The perfect peace of God gives you the
strength and enthusiasm you need to meet life victoriously. With God, you
view the storms; from under the shelter, you are less affected by them,
and you move through life, easily and harmoniously.

In any storm that you face, hold to the reality of God's goodness in your heart and mind and know that your every need will be met.

When you find yourself in a storm, let go of anxieties and concerns and let God guide you to safety. Try to see past appearances and become open and receptive to all possibilities, for you know that God will see you through each situation.

If you have a storm of a health challenge, have faith that you will be healed, and that you will be filled with renewed strength and energy.

If you have a storm of a prosperity challenge, release all thoughts of what you don't have and rely on God's supply of abundant good.

If you have a storm in a personal relationship, know that God's love will restore order, harmony and justice in every circumstance.

Just as the sun comes through the clouds as the storm passes, you know that God's good is coming forth and that all your needs will be met.

GIVE THANKS....

Let us give thanks for a bounty of people.
For children who are our second planting, and though they grow like weeds and the wind soon blows them away,
may they forgive us our cultivation and fondly remember where their roots are.
Let us give thanks:
For generous friends with hearts and smiles as bright as their blossoms;
For feisty friends as tart as apples;
For continuous friends, who like scallions and cucumbers, keep reminding us that we've had them;
For crotchety friends, sour as rhubarb and as indestructible;
For handsome friends, who are as gorgeous as eggplants and as elegant as a row of corn, and the others,
as plain as potatoes and so good for you;
For funny friends, who are as silly as Brussels sprouts and as amusing as Jerusalem artichokes;
And serious friends as unpretentious as cabbages, as subtle as summer squash, as persistent as parsley, as
delightful as dill, as endless as zucchini and who, like parsnips, can be counted on to see you through the winter;
For old friends, nodding like sunflowers in the evening time and young friends coming on as fast as radishes;
For loving friends, who wind around us like tendrils and hold us, despite our blights, wilts and witherings;
And finally, for those friends now gone, like gardens past that have been harvested, but who fed us in their
times that we might have life thereafter. For all these we give thanks to God.

Sunday Funnies

Psalm 30:12 – "That my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks for ever."

At the church meeting, the preacher announced, "Anyone with a special concern or problem who wants to be prayed over, please come forward." Billy Bob got in line, and when it was his turn, the preacher asked, "Billy Bob, what is your need that you want me to pray about?”

Billy Bob replied, "Preacher, I need you to pray for help with my hearing."
The preacher put one finger of one hand on Billy Bob’s ear, placed his other
hand on top of Billy Bob’s head, and then prayed and prayed and prayed. He prayed a blue streak for Billy Bob and the whole congregation joined in with great enthusiasm.

After a few minutes, the preacher removed his hands, stood back and asked,
"Billy Bob, how is your hearing now?"

Billy Bob answered, "I don't know. It ain't 'til next week.”

A young boy had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father,
who was also the local Pastor, if they could discuss the use of the family car.
His father invited him to his study and said, "I'll make a deal with you.
You bring your grades up, study the scriptures, and get your hair cut
and we'll consider it."

A month later the boy came back and again asked his father if they could
discuss the use of the car. They again went to the father's study where
his father said, "Son, I've been real proud of you. You have brought
your grades up, you've studied your scriptures diligently, but you didn't
get your hair cut!"

The young man waited a moment and replied, "You know Dad, I've been
thinking about that.

You know, Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair,
and even Jesus had long hair."

To which his father replied, "Yes, and they WALKED every where they went!"

Giving More Thanks....

Thank You, God, for the creative power of mind that enables me to think in
limitless ways. Thank You, God, that I am able to create, compose, and
invent. I can do and become whatever I choose, with Your help.

Thank You, God, for Your love that permeates all life. Your love is the
true basis for our relationships, guiding our motives, desires, and
efforts.

Thank You, God, for providing the abundance from which all needs are met.
My abundance flows freely, blessing, enriching, and fulfilling my life.

Thank You, God, for Your governing power that guides and protects me.
Your loving presence embraces me, warmly and guides me, tenderly.

Thank You, God, for the beauty in the world, for it inspires me with
never-ending variety, showing me how infinitely important each part is to
the whole.

I know You, dear God, are with me. I have nothing to fear, today or any
day.

Our Foundation

God, who is our rock and our foundation, root us in you. May the storms of life not shake our inmost calm, which comes through the life and peace of your Son, Jesus. Amen.

In England, an ordinary person is called the commoner. There are billions
of commoners the world over.

Let me introduce you to a commoner in our society. Her mythical name is
"Molly SeeNoGood."

She wakes up tired every day; life is taking its toll. She is critical of
everything. Most of her communications with others has sunk to the depths
of negativity. Criticizing has become a way of life for Ms. SeeNoGood.
She could not perceive good if it stared her directly in the face, because
she wears bitter sunglasses that color everything in the dark shades of
the hellish life she has created for herself. She blames everyone and
everything outside of herself for her bad life; but what happens to her
has very little to do with events. Molly has not said "thank you" in
years, and Molly is drowning in her self-created darkness. Molly does not
live life; she simply exists in a day-to-day existence, marking time by
the events of crises.

Everyone knows someone like Molly who is living a common life. It was sad
in Jesus’ day, and it is equally sad today.

Let’s visit next with an un-commoner: a person who rises above mediocrity
to a new level of living. His name is "Seymour Good."

He no longer allows outer events to rob him of his daily life, and he has
a giving, thankful attitude. He is an adventurer who goes into each day
with an expectation of good. He always wears the garment of a smile. It
is the main staple of his wardrobe, and he gives it fully to any, and all.
His smile is just an outer expression of his inner-perception of life; he
sees good everywhere, in everyone, and in everything. He gives thanks to
God, constantly.

I urge you to spend the entire Thanksgiving holiday being a Seymour Good.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!

Thanksgiving Day Proclamation of 1789
President George Washington

"Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor, and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thank...s giving and prayer to be
observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many single favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States
to the Service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks, for His kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the single and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of His providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have
been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, of the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have to acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which He hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humble offering our prayers and supplications to the Great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all people,
by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone know to be best."

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company, a church, a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.
And so it is with you - we are in charge of our attitudes."
Charles Swindoll
