Crossroads

Sometimes we come to life's crossroads and
View what we think is the end,
But God has a much wider vision and
He knows it's only a bend --

The road will go on and get smoother, and
After we've stopped for a rest,
The path that lies hidden beyond us is
Often the part that is best.

So rest and relax and grow stronger
Let go and let God share your load,
And have faith in a brighter tomorrow
You've just come to a bend in the road.

Have a great day,
Caterina

Smile A Little Daily Bread

A Question of Motive

My wife and I were stopped at a railroad crossing to allow a train to pass. As we waited in the line of cars, the driver next to us suddenly darted through a nearby parking lot and headed in the direction of the next available railroad crossing.

I turned to Marlene and said, with some righteous indignation, “Look at that guy. He’s trying to get around the train instead of waiting like the rest of us.” As soon as I said those words, the man, camera in hand, hopped from his car to take pictures of the oncoming train. I had judged his motives, and I was dead wrong.

Although we can observe behavior and outward appearance, only God can see what’s in the heart. That is one reason we all need the Word of God so desperately. Hebrews 4:12 says, “The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

When we find ourselves ready to judge another person’s motives, let’s pause and remember—only God can see the heart, and only His Word can expose its motives. Our responsibility is to let the Lord and His Word convict us about our own hearts.
— Bill Crowder

The Bible is a lamp from God,
A sword of truth and light;
It searches heart and soul and mind,
And helps us know what’s right. —Bosch

People will be judged by the way God sees them not by the way we see them.

Smile The Measure of ....

The Measure of a Man (and a woman, too)

This world can analyze and size you up and throw you on the scales, they can IQ you and run you through Their rigorous details.

They can do their best to rate you and they'll place you on their charts and then back it up with scientific smarts, but there's more to what your worth than what their human eyes can see.

Oh I say the measure of a man is not how tall he stands how wealthy or intelligent you are cause I found out the measure of a man God knows and understands for He looks inside to the bottom of your heart and what's in the heart defines.....The Measure of a Man.

You can spend your life pursuing physical perfection there is so much more, more than ever meets the eye for God looks through the surface and He defines your worth by, what's on the inside.

He looks at you with Mercy and He sees you through His love you're His child and that will always be enough for there's more than what your worth than you could ever comprehend.

Oh I say the measure of a man is not how tall he stands how wealthy or intelligent you are cause I found out the measure of a man God knows and understands for He looks inside to the bottom of your heart and what's in the heart defines.....The Measure of a Man.

Have a super blessed day,

Smile Just A Weaver

Just A Weaver
by Benjamin Malachi Franklin

My life is but a weaving,
between my God and me,
I do not choose the colors,
He worketh steadily.

Ofttimes he weaveth sorrow,
and I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper,
and I the underside.

Not till the loom is silent,
and the shuttles cease to fly,
Will God unroll the canvas,
and explain the reasons why

The dark threads are as needful
in the skillful weaver's hand
As threads of gold and silver
in the pattern He has planned.

Have a blessed day,

Here is an insightful story from Guideposts that has encouraged me ~~

FIRMLY ROOTED

I was admiring the beautiful hardwood pews that a carpenter friend builds for places of worship. He told me he personally selects the trees from which the pews are made. “The cost is considerable,” he said. “First of all, I have to travel by plane halfway across the continent to where the trees grow. Then I must hike for days through hardwood forests on the stormy side of the slopes.”

”Why the stormy side?” I asked.

”That’s where trees develop deep roots and firm cell structures because they must grow strong enough to withstand the prevailing winds. By comparison, the trees on the sheltered side of the slopes have shallow roots and a coarse grain.”

Last year the prevailing winds were blowing rather fiercely on my side of the slope. There were family decisions to make, problems complicating my course of action and upheavals in my work schedule. My inclination was simply to give in to self-pity and wait for the pressures to slack off. But they didn’t.

Instead, I found myself praying--really praying--for the courage to meet problems head-on, for the grace to confront difficult situations, for guidance in establishing a time-management plan.

At the end of the year, I was not only standing a little taller and a little straighter, I had gone down a whole lot deeper with God.

Lord, You not only created trees, You were raised here on earth by a carpenter and know the value of growing on the stormy side of the slope. Use the winds in my life to help me grow strong in spirit.

-Alma Barkman- (Guideposts)

Beauty For Ashes

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fear
Gladness for mourning
Peace for despair

When sorrow seems to surround you
When suffering hangs heavy over your head
Know that tomorrow brings
Wholeness and healing
God knows your need
Just believe what He said

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fear
Gladness for mourning
Peace for despair

When what you've done keeps you from moving on
When fear wants to make itself at home in your heart
Know that forgiveness brings
Wholeness and healing
God knows your need
Just believe what He said

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fear
Gladness for mourning
Peace for despair

I once was lost but God has found me
Though I was bound Ive been set free
Ive been made righteous in His sight
A display of His splendor all can see

He gives beauty for ashes
Strength for fear Gladness for mourning
Peace for despair

The Washington Post newspaper has a section called Page Three. There people can write about RAK and other 'good' news. It is encouraging in this cynical world that there are still people who are willing to step up and help others. Remember 'Christ said if you have done it to the least of these, you have done it to ME' (paraphrased of course) I try to be sensitive to others. Someone may be having a bad day and need a kind word or gesture. You could be the person who is most needed at the time.
Thanks to everyone who has posted here and given words of hope, comfort, encouragement and compassion. Thanks you, Caterina, for starting this thread.

Default Another chuckle

Had to share this chuckle someone sent me...we recently had to renew our passports so this hit home.

Unfortunately, getting a new passport required a new photo. As I handed my ten-year-old passport and the new picture to the clerk, I sighed. "I like the original better," I told her.

"Trust me," she said. "Ten years from now, you'll like this one."

THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL USES OF THE ALPHABET THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DID. HAVE A GOOD DAY!

Although things are not perfect
Because of trials or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
God is forever able
Hold on to what you know
Imagine life without His love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee
Move out of 'Camp Complaining'
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone
Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To 'thank' is a command
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race with gratitude
Xalting God most high
Yes, there'll be good times & yes some will be bad, but...
Zion waits in glory...where no one is ever sad!

'I AM Too blessed to be stressed!'

The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor. The one who kneels to the Lord can stand up to anything.

Love and peace be with you forever, Amen.

GOD LOVES YOU...

Default What God Hath Promised!

When I was a young woman I came across this poem and have found it to be a comfort since then. After my father passed away, I found a copy in his Bible that my mother gave to me. I had no idea that he had found comfort in it also! I gave my copy to my daughter and carry his in my purse. I hope that some of you will cherish the meaning as much as I do!

What God Hath Promised

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives thro';
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
God hath not promised we shall not know
toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
many a burden, many a care.
BUT God hath promised strength for the day,
rest for the laborer, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying LOVE.

(and eternal life! added by my Dad)

I hope someone finds this as comforting as I have.

Romans 8:28

I would like to share this excerpt from a devotional by Christine Wyrtzen.

WHAT SPILLS OUT

My soul magnifies the Lord. Luke 1:46

Words of faith do not originate from a vacuum. What spills out during the times when I am stretched to my limit reflects the kind of faith I have cultivated previously.

A well known Bible teacher said, “Who I am when hard times hit is really who I am.”

True! The words I speak during my most painful moments are a mirror that reflect the foundation of my life.

Human nature wants to coast during the good times, only drawing close to God when the fires of adversity get hot. God is gracious and will certainly answer us whenever we cry out for help, but there is a better way.

I can fortify my heart today by the choices I make with my time. If I make sure to feed my spirit through careful study of the Word of God, through listening prayer, through deliberate searching of God’s heart in matters great and small, I create a storehouse of spiritual food that will serve me well when there’s famine. When hunger and thirst visit my front door, I will not have to hear hopeless and fearful words come out of my mouth. What spills out will be the sweet discourse of faith.

Wonderful words of truth, thanks so much for posting.

Today is Memorial Day - be sure to remember all our troops who gave their lives. Also when you see someone in uniform, say 'thank you',

This was written in 2007 but still good for today
For Our Troops
© 2007 Brooke O'Neill Emery

MEMORIAL DAY, 2007

FOR OUR TROOPS (both past and present, but particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan at present)

Though I don't know your name and I have never seen your face
I shed tears for you.

Though my memories don't contain a time
We shared together
I miss you.

Though we are not related you are in my thoughts.

When I'm eating, or taking a shower, or doing housework,
I think of you, knowing how much you wish you could be at home,
Your stomach full, doing mundane chores such as cleaning your house,
Clean from a fresh shower.

Though you are at terrible risk, and perhaps may not survive,
You are NEVER ALONE, and will always be alive if only in our spirits, hopes and memories, our dreams for your future.

There are MILLIONS of people praying for you tonight and throughout the day.
Praying for your safely and return as a whole person in mind, body and spirit.

We are crying because we know. We know you are scared, and lonely.
And that you'd give anything to see your family, to hug you mother, father.
Your child, sister, brother, aunt, uncle. To be showered with love and comfort, instead of sand and shrapnel.

We long for you too, with an ache so desperate as to make us insane.
To touch your face, see your smile; share your laughter and your tears.

We love you so much soldiers, you cannot know. You cannot fathom the swelling of pride in our chest as we think of you. Of your courage and your sacrifice, the hope that you can come home soon.

And those that have returned, we have not forgotten you; you are in our prayers, that you may recover from your experience and be healed.

No matter what anyone says, not matter the reason you are there,
You are a UNITED STATES SOLDIER, and you make us PROUD!!
Every day for that beautiful flag, for our great fortune to be Americans.

There are no politics, no scandals, no mistakes, NOTHING, which can diminish the sentiment we have for you. And even as democracy permits free speech, as it should, which some may use to make judgments or cast aspersions,
Remember always, we know you'd rather be on the couch debating it with us than spending your days trying just to stay alive.

Let no "freedom of speech' EVER make you doubt the American people's faith in and love for you.
We are PROUD!

I've never met you, but I want you to know that I love you.
I'm praying for you.
I honor you.
I'm waiting for your return.

On this Memorial Day, 2007, and every day,
Please know that you are being though of.

WE MISS YOU.
GOD BLESS YOU and keep you until the day we can celebrate face to face.

On this Memorial Day a poem for those who have lost a loved one

Rainbow's End Memorial

We do not need a special day to bring you to our minds.
The days that we don't think of you are very hard to find.

Each morning when we awake, we know that you are gone,
And nobody knows the heartache as we try to carry on.

Our hearts still ache with sadness and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose someone like you no one will ever know.

Our thoughts are clearly with you, your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly — in death we love you still.

There will always be a heartache and sometimes we'll shed a tear,
For there remain precious memories of the days when you were here.

So we'll let our angels guide us — right to the Rainbow's End —
They'll walk with us throughout our lives until we meet again.

On this celebration of Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives in service to their country.

Those who considered their lives as less than the lives of those around them. Those who risked and lost all to save their comrades, to defeat tyranny, to defend freedom. The Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Navy Cross, the Congressional Medal of Honor... these are all symbols of great sacrifice for the good of man.

The ultimate symbol, however, is the CROSS - where one Man gave up everything and one God suffered the ultimate loss in order that all men might be freed from the tyranny of sin and become citizens of that nation whose King is the Holy God.

Thank you to all of you who posted these eloquent Memorial Day messages. They have directed our thoughts to our brave servicemembers and to our Lord who has blessed our nation so profoundly.

Below is an excerpt from my blog post yesterday.

I came across an article in our paper yesterday. One of the articles was on Religious Comforters: important support to those in need. The article starts out talking about Memorial Day and why it began. To commerate those that died in the Civil War. It went on to talk about how it changed over the years. The next paragraph states this:
The modern celebration of Memorial Day is similar to the original celebration. But today the original idea has been expanded. Although it is still very much about honoring America's fallen soldiers (and troops). It is also about celebrating all people who have created the world we live in today.

WHAT! That is NOT what Memorial Day is about. Memorial Day is for our fallen. For those that have died to make this country FREE. It HAS changed, but it has changed to encompass other wars. To include all fallen military. There is not much more I can say. I just knew I needed to blog about this. Thank you to the fallen military that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. To make it any less dishonors those that died so we could be free.

Anyway, just thought I would share. There is more at my blog. Thanks for listening.

Debra,

Amen. It is definitely about our fallen heroes and praise God for each and everyone of them.

A Bit of Daily Bread for Today

A friend of mine who leads spiritual retreats once told me that not one person who has followed his regimen of a silent retreat has failed to hear from God. Intrigued and a bit skeptical, I signed up for a 5-day retreat. We had much free time and just a few requirements, such as the assignment to spend 2 hours praying each day.

I doubt I had devoted more than 30 minutes to prayer at any one session in my life. The first day I wandered to a meadow and sat against a tree. How long will I stay awake? I wondered. To my great fortune, a herd of 147 elk wandered into the very field where I was sitting. To watch 147 elk in their natural habitat is enthralling and, eventually, boring. Yet after a while the very placidity of the scene began to affect me. Over the next few days I said many words to God. I was turning 50, and I asked for guidance on how I should prepare my soul for the rest of life. Many things came to mind while sitting in a field for hours at a time. I had to agree that I had indeed heard from God.

When Elijah stood before the Lord on Mount Horeb, he didn’t meet Him in the wind, earthquake, or fire. Rather, God spoke in a “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:11-12).

I’m more convinced than ever that God finds ways to communicate to those who truly seek Him—especially when we lower the volume of the surrounding static. — Philip Yancey

Speak, Lord, in the stillness, while I wait on Thee;
Hushed my heart to listen, in expectancy.

Yes, I read the message also this morning in my devotional time and yes, it gave much to think about.

I too agree with Debra about the meaning of Memorial Day, formerly Decoration Day. It is indeed to remember and honor those who gave so freely for our country and made the supreme sacrifice. Over the years, the holiday has changed to 'decorate' all graves by families who have this as a custom. To be honest, I have never seen the need to so because it takes away from the true meaning. I hope no one takes offense to these thoughts, it is just how I see it.

Barb, No matter how others treat this sacred day we set aside to honor the fallen, all we can do is pray for the families of these brave ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice and be thankful. We can also honor them by teaching our children, grandchildren in word and deed to be very grateful to our troops for their willingness to die in order that we continue in freedom.

A certain man planted a rose and watered it faithfully, and before it blossomed, he examined it. He saw the bud that would soon blossom and also the thorns. And he thought, "How can any beautiful flower come from a plant burdened with so many sharp thorns?" Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the rose, and before it was ready to bloom it died.

So it is with many people.

Within every soul there is a rose. The God-like qualities planted in us at birth grow amid the thorns of our faults. Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects. We despair, thinking that nothing good can possibly come from us. We neglect to water the good within us, and eventually it dies.

We never realize our potential.

Some people do not see the rose within themselves; someone else must show it to them. One of the greatest gifts a person can possess is to be able to reach past the thorns and find the rose within others. This is the characteristic of love, to look at a person, and knowing his faults, recognize the nobility in his soul, and help him realize that he can overcome his faults.

If we show him the rose, he will conquer the thorns. Then will he blossom, blooming forth thirty, sixty, a hundred-fold as it is given to him.

Our duty in this world is to help others by showing them their roses and not their thorns. Only then can we achieve the love we should feel for each other; only then can we bloom in our own garden.

Drinking From My Saucer

I've never made a fortune, and it's probably too late now,
But, I don't worry about that much, I'm happy anyhow.
And as I go along life's journey, I'm reaping better than I sowed,
I'm drinking from my saucer, 'cause my cup has overflowed.

I ain't got a lot of riches, and sometimes the goings tough;
But, I've kids who love me and that makes me rich enough.
I just thank God for His blessings and the mercies He's bestowed;
I'm drinking from my saucer, 'cause my cup has overflowed.

I remember times when things went wrong
and my faith got a little thin,
But then all at once the dark clouds broke
and the sun peaked through again.

So Lord help me not to gripe
about the tough rows that I hoed,
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'cause my cup has overflowed.

And if God gives me strength and courage
when the way grows steep and rough,
I'll not ask for other blessings,
I'm already blessed enough.

And may I never be too busy
to help another bear his load,
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer,
'cause my cup has overflowed.

Words of wisdom from a young missionary who gave his life to bring good news to a secluded people:

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

Don't know if there are any Casting Crowns fans, but they are a real favorite of mine...love this one of theirs...

I'm the man with all I've ever wanted
All the toys and playing games
I am the one who pours your coffee, corner booth each Saturday
I am your daughter's favorite teacher
I am the leader of the band
I sit behind you in the bleachers
I am every man.

I'm the coach of every winning team and still a loser in my mind
I am the soldier in the airport facing giants one more time
I am the woman shamed and haunted by the cry of unborn life
I'm every broken man, nervous child, lonely wife

Is there hope for every man
A solid place where we can stand
In this dry and weary land
Is there hope for every man
Is there love that never dies
Is there peace in troubled times
Someone help me understand
Is there hope for every man

Seems there's just so many roads to travel, it's hard to tell where they will lead
My life is scarred and my dreams unraveled
Now I'm scared to take the leap
If I could find someone to follow who knows my pain and feels the weight
The uncertainty of my tomorrow, the guilt and pain of yesterday

There is hope for every man
A solid place where we can stand
In this dry and weary land
There is hope for every man
There is Love that never dies
There is peace in troubled times
Will we help them understand?
Jesus is hope for every man

I Said A Prayer For You Today

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard -
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke no word
I didn't ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn't mind) -
I asked Him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!
I asked that He'd be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way!
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small-
But it was for His loving care
I prayed for most of all!
