Anyone who has pets will really like this. You'll like it even if you don't and you may even decide you need one!

Lucky Dog....

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.'

Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box..

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought.. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her body f felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life.

He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most Credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

If you see someone without a smile today give them one of yours!

Live simply.
Love seriously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.

I received the dog story in an email recently and it touched me then and it touched me again when I read it here. As someone who has been ill for a long time, it is a wonderful feeling to feel wrapped in someones love, your families love, your friends love, Gods love and even the feeling of comfort you feel from the good wishes of strangers.

By the way, I feel like I have this dog, when my mother passed away I brought her little dog to stay with me and if you check my gallery you will see a scrapbook layout about her..all through my chemo therapy whenever I was really sickly and lying on the sofa or in bed, she was there lying next to me or just sitting with her head on the sofa looking into my eyes...such unconditional love...she certainly made sure that I never felt alone

Be still, for the power of the Lord,
Is moving in this place.
He comes to cleanse and heal,
To minister His grace.
No work too hard for Him,
In faith receive from Him.
Be still, for the power of the Lord,
Is moving in this place.

The dog story is very touching. My mom was had fallen down the basement steps. Her dog wouldn't leave her side. When we took her to the hospital he refused to eat. When she came home he rarely left her side. My dad was angry because sometimes the dog wouldn't let him close to her. He was a big mutt. I always had to take my asthma meds before I went top their house.

I love all your stories about devoted dogs! The Lord placed something very special in the hearts of our doggie friends, didn't He?! Our collie, Major, brings such joy into our home.

Hi ladies, well I can't have doggies now cause DH is allergic. BUT, we had gotten a dog "daisy" she was 1/2 lab and 1/2 sheppard and she was great. 6 years after having her we moved and my sister had a baby and her and her DH & new DS came to live with us, I had to move from my portion of the house and went upstairs to a normal bedroom. Well once the crib came in that dog who hadn't been around kids would lay in front of the crib every night, whatever time Matt went down to sleep she laid there. Well at 3:30 in the a.m. Matt was crying my sister was out cold and I wanted sleep. So went to get him and Daisy growled at me until I said her name. She then let me take him and he slept with me for 3 hours and then I returned him to his crib. 18 years later, my sister still none the wiser - she thought he was a good sleeper. LOL

Hold On...
A Pueblo Indian Prayer

Hold on to what is good,
even if it's a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
even if you stand by yourself.
Hold on to what you must do,
even if it's difficult.
Hold on to your life,
even if it's easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
even if I've gone away from you.

Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."

The Garden

I have a little garden, hedged in by a wall
Protected from the elements from Winter until Fall;
Whenever I've a little time I like to sit therein
Basking in the sunshine - especially in Spring.

I often use my rake and shears to trim and keep it clean
Snipping here and cutting there; weeding in between;
Planting, mowing, trimming, sowing; my work's never done
Right throughout the seasons and the years the work goes on.

Water is its lifeblood; rain falling from the sky
Without it the plants will simply wither up and die.
During drier seasons I water plants and lawn;
Early every morning; at the break of dawn.

Oh, how lovely and serene; a joy to eyes and soul
A place of wondrous beauty within which I can stroll;
The weeding and the sowing; the toil with rake and shears
Have produced a haven which improved throughout the years.

Our Father has a garden hedged in by heaven's host
Tended with great love and care by His Holy Ghost.
Each and every moment He is involved therein;
Trimming, weeding, mowing as He cuts away our sin.

Parasitic plants are ripped out by their roots and all;
Rocks and boulders are removed; the big ones and the small.
Weeds replaced by everlasting, useful, fruitful seeds;
Love grows in the place of hate; selfishness and greed.

In its midst a spring of pure and living water flows
To quench the thirst of all the plants which in His garden grows;
Soft rain falling down upon each dry and yearning heart
Desiring to worship and belong to only God.

Throughout the lives of all the souls who truly do belong
The sanctifying work He has begun goes on and on
Teaching us through all the hardships we have to endure;
Causing us to grow in faith and to become mature.

This is lovely Caterina. I just came in from mowing and cleaning up outside, hot and sweaty, so while I am sitting here with my ice water, I am reading emails. The poem is so well timed and just reading it has made me feel peaceful. Thank you for this moment of renewal!
Anne so sorry to hear about you bil, prayers and blessings that his condition is found and can be repaired.

One night in a church service a young woman felt the tug of God at her heart. She responded to God's call and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.

The young woman had a very rough past, involving alcohol, drugs, and prostitution. But, the change in her was evident. As time went on she became a faithful member of the church.

She eventually became involved in the ministry, teaching young
children.

It was not very long until this faithful young woman had caught
the eye and heart of the pastor's son. The relationship grew and they began to make wedding plans.

This is when the problems began.

You see, about one half of the church did not think that a woman
with a past such as hers was suitable for a pastor's son.

The church began to argue and fight about the matter. So they decided to have a meeting. As the people made their arguments and tensions increased, the meeting was getting completely out of hand.

The young woman became very upset about all the things
being brought up about her past.

As she began to cry the pastor's son stood to speak.

He could not bear the pain it was causing his wife to be.

He began to speak and his statement was this:

'My fiancee's past is not what is on trial here.

What you are questioning is the ability of the blood of Jesus to
wash away sin.

Today you have put the blood of Jesus on trial.
So, does it wash away sin or not?'

The whole church began to weep as they realized that they had
been slandering the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ

Too often, even as Christians, we bring up the past
and use it as a weapon against our brothers and sisters.

Forgiveness is a very foundational part of the Gospel
of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If the blood of Jesus does not cleanse the other person
completely then it cannot cleanse us completely
If that is the case, then we are all in a lot of trouble.

What can wash away my sins?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus !

'Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee
He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.' Psalm 55:23

Caterina- Who are we to judge? Remember the person without sin can past the first stone. ( I know that I am paraphrasing) I believe that is why Jesus became man and died for us. Christians forget this on a regular basis. Thanks for the reminder.

Caterina .... Thank you for the thought-provoking devotional. As I read this I thought about the clear illustration God gave us regarding His forgiveness and cleansing when He gives us the account of a repentant former prostitute named Rahab. There is a wonderful account of Rahab's faith in the book of Joshua. She is listed in Matthew 1:5 in the lineage of Jesus and is also listed in the "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11.

In your devotional, the pastor's son was so wise to point out the foundational problem ... so often we put the blood of Jesus on trial. The Bible teaches that when we repent, Jesus' shed blood washes our sins away and we are made clean and we are a brand new creation!! A great reason to rejoice!!

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers
began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.

One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched
statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat
sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick.
When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under
their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of
impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the
tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing
that the toxic smoke would rise.

She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her
babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her
small body, the mother had remained steadfast... because she had
been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

'He will cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you will find refuge.'
(Psalm 91:4)

Being loved this much should make a difference in your life.
Remember the One who loves you, and then be different because of it.

Smile TIME FOR A CHUCKLE

Dispersing an Unruly Crowd

A young clergyman, fresh out of seminary, thought it would help him better understand the fears and temptations his future congregations faced if he first took a job as a policeman for several months.

He passed the physical examination; then came the oral exam to test his ability to act quickly and wisely in an emergency. Among other questions he was asked, “What would you do to disperse a frenzied crowd?”

He thought for a moment and then replied, “I would take up a collection.”

This one hit home for me because of a book, Button Soup, that I used to read to my daughter when she little...

Stone Soup
Author Unknown

Many years ago three soldiers, hungry and weary of battle, came upon a small village. The villagers, suffering a meager harvest and the many years of war, quickly hid what little they had to eat and met the three at the village square, wringing their hands and bemoaning the lack of anything to eat.

The soldiers spoke quietly among themselves and the first soldier then turned to the village elders. "Your tired fields have left you nothing to share, so we will share what little we have: the secret of how to make soup from stones."

Naturally the villagers were intrigued and soon a fire was put to the town's greatest kettle as the soldiers dropped in three smooth stones. "Now this will be a fine soup", said the second soldier; "but a pinch of salt and some parsley would make it wonderful!" Up jumped a villager, crying "What luck! I've just remembered where some's been left!" And off she ran, returning with an apron full of parsley and a turnip. As the kettle boiled on, the memory of the village improved: soon barley, carrots, beef and cream had found their way into the great pot, and a cask of wine was rolled into the square as all sat down to feast.

They ate and danced and sang well into the night, refreshed by the feast and their new-found friends. In the morning the three soldiers awoke to find the entire village standing before them. At their feet lay a satchel of the village's best breads and cheese. "You have given us the greatest of gifts: the secret of how to make soup from stones", said an elder, "and we shall never forget." The third soldier turned to the crowd, and said: "There is no secret, but this is certain: it is only by sharing that we may make a feast". And off the soldiers wandered, down the road.

Caterina- the story made me think of the Little House on the Prairie episode. Caroline was teaching school and told the kids the story. It was a moving episode about helping others.
Barb- glad that you checked in with us and that the family is doing okay!
Hi Michele-
anne- I love the music from Joseph. I used to be in a choir but had to quit due to the lack of transportation. So I sing around the house... not the same.
Hi Rita- How are you doing?
Been praying for all!

Father & Son
A Real-Life Love Story

Every once in awhile someone sends us a
story that's so beautiful we are forever changed
by it. This is one of those stories.

It started in Winchester, Massachusetts,
43 years ago, when Rick Hoyt was born.
Somehow his umbilical cord became wrapped around his neck, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs.

The doctors told Rick's parents that he would be a vegetable for the rest of his life. But Dick Hoyt, Rick's father, didn't believe it. He noticed the way Rick's eyes followed him around the room.

When Rick was 11 they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was anything to help the boy communicate. "No way,'' Dick says he was told. "There's nothing going on in his brain.''

"Tell him a joke,'' Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed.

Turns out a lot was going on in his brain. Rigged up with a computer that allowed him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate. First words? "Go Bruins!''

And after a high school classmate was paralyzed in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out, "Dad, I want to do that.''

Yeah, right. How was Dick, a self-described "porker'' who never ran more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he tried. "Then it was me who was handicapped,'' Dick says. "I was sore for two weeks.''

That day changed Rick's life. "Dad,'' he typed, "when we were
running, it felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!''

And that sentence changed Dick's life. He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon.

"No way,'' Dick was told by a race official. The Hoyt's weren't quite a single runner, and they weren't quite a wheelchair competitor. So, for the first few years, Dick and Rick just joined the massive field and ran anyway.

Later, they would find a way to get into the race officially: In 1983 they ran another marathon so fast they made the qualifying time for Boston the following year.

Then somebody said, "Hey, Dick, why not a triathlon?''

How's a guy who never learned to swim and hadn't ridden a bike since he was six going to haul his 110-pound kid through a triathlon?

Still, Dick tried.

Now they've done 212 triathlons, including four grueling 15-hour Ironman Competitions in Hawaii.

This year, at ages 65 and 43, Dick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20,000 starters. Their best time? Two hours, 40 minutes in 1992 - only 35 minutes off the world record, which, in case you don't keep track of these things, happens to be held by a guy who was not pushing another man in a wheelchair at the time.

Caterina your latest post is very humbling, it is amazing and a reminder of what we can achieve if we put our minds to it

"All things are possible with God", if we allow God to work with us in accomplishing them.

Joan .... You mentioned about making mistakes at work .... I think I'm the queen of making mistakes at work!! I'm learning not to be too hard on myself because I look around and see that others make mistakes, too. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. At times I've been so overwhelmed by work assignments that I had no past experience doing. Believe me .... I've learned moment-by-moment dependence on the Lord and He has not let me down. He really goes before us preparing the way. I've become aware of this at work because He often arranges for me to be exposed to some information that I'm going to need the following day. Or He will arrange for just the right person to be present in the room when a situation comes up that I don't know how to handle .... that person will have the experience or information needed to take care of the situation. I would never have known this aspect of the Lord's character if He hadn't placed me in overwhelming situations where I'm so dependent on His grace.

I'm continuing in prayer for you, Joan.

Hugs,

Rita

Rita- The problem is my boss. She is not forgiving about mistakes. She wrote me up last year for a mistake similar to the one today. of course, she makes mistakes but always blames them on someone else. Or just blows them off. In a different economy I would leave this job. I love the kids, but not the boss. The feeling is mutual. She has told me before that she never fires anyone. She just makes life miserable until they quit. This has happened many times in the past 7 yrs. I just keep praying for her. I believe mistakes are a way to grow. Well, enough of that!
I am going to bed early.

A reminder that "God Works in Mysterious Ways "

Tampons (A TRUE STORY)

Tampons to the rescue in Iraq !! Don't worry, it's a good story, and worth reading. It's even humorous in parts. It's from the mother of a Marine in Iraq.

My son told me how wonderful the care packages we had sent them from the ladies auxiliary were and wanted me to tell everyone thank you.

He said that one guy we'll call Marine X, got a female care package and everyone was giving him a hard time. My son said, 'Marine X got some really nice smelling lotion and everyone really likes it, so every time he goes to sleep they steal it from him.' I told my son I was really sorry about the mistake, and if he wanted I would send Marine X another package. He told me not to worry about Marine X because every time I send something to him, he shares it with Marine X.

He said when my husband and I sent the last care package, Marine X came over to his cot picked up the box, started fishing through it, and said, 'What'd we get this time?'

But my son said they had the most fun with Marine X's package. He said he wasn't sure who it was supposed to go to, but the panties were size 20, and he said one of the guys got on top of the Humvee and jumped off with the panties over his head and yelled, 'Look at me, I'm a n Airborne Ranger!!!!'

One of the guys attached the panties to an antenna and it blew in the wind like a windsock. He said it entertained them for quite awhile. Then of course.......they had those tampons. When he brought this up, my imagination just went running, but he continued.

My son said they had to go on a mission and Marine X wanted the Chap-Stick and lotion for the trip. He grabbed a bunch of the items from his care package and got in the Humvee. As luck would have it he grabbed the tampons too, and my son said everyone was teasing him about 'not forgetting his feminine hygiene products.'

He said things went well for a while, then the convoy was ambushed and a Marine was shot. He said the wound was pretty clean, but it was deep.. He said they were administering first aid but couldn't get the bleeding to slow down, and someone said, 'Hey! Use Marine X's tampons!' My son said they put the tampon in the wound. At this point my son profoundly told Me, 'Mom, did you know that tampons expand?' ('Well....yeah!')

They successfully slowed the bleeding until the guy got better medical attention. When they went to check on him la ter, the surgeon told them, 'You guys saved his life. If you hadn't stopped that bleeding he would have bled to death.' My Son said, 'Mom, the tampons sent by the Marine Moms by mistake saved a Marine's life.'

At this point I asked him, 'Well, what did you do with the rest of the tampons?'

He said, 'Oh, we divided them up and we all have them in our flak jackets, and I kept two for our first aid kit.'

I am absolutely amazed by the ingenuity of our Marines. I can't believe that something that started out as a mistake then turned into a joke, ended up saving someone's life. My sister said she doesn't believe in mistakes. She believes God had a plan all along. She believes that 'female care package' was sent to Marine X to save our Marine.

Either way, our efforts have boosted the morale of many Marines, provided much needed items for our troops, AND saved the life of a Marine! God bless every one of you for your efforts and hard work, and God bless our Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force and all our military service personnel.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND KEEP IT SAFE!

Let us pray...

Prayer: 'Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us.Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.
'

Caterina- Interesting story about our service people. I am so happy that it is Friday. However, I am not looking forward to spending it with my in-laws. They are evil. That's what the kids would say. Hope everyone had a great Friday!

Joan, my husband would say it is opportunity to love them like Jesus... easier said than done sometimes.
