"To my dearest friends and family,
some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know,
that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from heaven.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness;
Here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy
just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every
morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you
when my life on earth was through.
God picked me up and hugged me and
He said, "I welcome you".

"It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone.
As for your friends and family,
They'll be here later on.

I need you here badly,
you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do,
to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things,
that he wished for me to do, and
foremost on the list,
was to watch and care for you.

And I will be beside you
every day and week and year
and when you're sad
I'm standing there to wipe away the tear.

And when you lie in bed at night
the day's chores put to flight,
God and I are closest to you..
in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth,
and all those loving years,
because you are only human,
they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry,
it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers,
unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you
all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you,
you wouldn't understand.

But one thing is for certain,
though my life on earth is o'er,
I'm closer to you now than
I ever was before.

And to my very many friends
trust God knows what is best,
I'm still not far away from you
I'm just beyond the crest.

There are many rocky roads
ahead of you and
many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by
taking one day at a time.

It was always my philosophy
and I'd like it for you too;
That as give unto the world,
the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody
who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God
at night...
"My day was not in vain".

And now I am contented....
that my life was worthwhile.
Know as I passed along the way
I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody
who is sad and feeling low,
Just lend a hand to pick him up,
as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street
and you've got me on your mind,
I'm walking in you footsteps
only half a step behind.

And when you feel the gentle breeze
or the wind upon your face,
that's me giving you a great big hug
or just a soft embrace.

And when it's time for you to go
....from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going..
..you're coming here to me.

And I will always love you
from that land way up above.
Will be in touch again soon.

P.S. God sends His Love

You can't change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying over the future.

TIME TO DREAM

Give me time to dream, oh Lord

Time now for reflections

Time to rid my frazzled mind

of a thousand and one expectations.

D

Give me just a moment

to observe this changing time

~to shut out noise and disturbances

~To sweep them from my mind

R

Let me notice little things

you give unselfishly

~the falling leaves, the pure white snow

~all the gifts you give to me.

E

Let me look forward to tomorrow

without worry or regret

~forget the past and accept the present

~don't let me give up yet

A

Slow me down, Lord, slow me down

~so I can see your face

~to pause and let the blessed calm

~my negative thoughts replace.

M

Let me take the time to live and love

instead of racing out of control

Slow me down, Lord, slow me down

and still my restless soul

Time To Dream by - Kacey

Do all the good you can,
in all the ways you can,
to all the souls you can,
in every place you can,
at all the times you can,
With all the zeal you can,
as long as ever you can."

The Cleaning Lady
Joanne C. Jones

During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. "Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'Hello'."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

I'm Flying!
by Roger Dean Kiser, Sr.

Once upon a time there was a little boy who was raised in an orphanage.

The little boy had always wished that he could fly like a bird. It was very difficult for him to understand why he could not fly. There were birds at the zoo that were much bigger than he, and they could fly. "Why can't I?" he thought. "Is there something wrong with me?" he wondered.

There was another little boy who was crippled. He had always wished that he could walk and run like other little boys and girls. "Why can't I be like them?" he thought.

One day the little orphan boy, who had wanted to fly like a bird, ran away from the orphanage. He came upon a park where he saw the little boy, who could not walk or run, playing in the sandbox.

He ran over to the little boy and asked him if he had ever wanted to fly like a bird.

"No," said the little boy who could not walk or run. "But I have wondered what it would be like to walk and run like other boys and girls."

"That is very sad," said the little boy who wanted to fly. "Do you think we could be friends?" he said to the little boy in the sandbox.

"Sure," said the little boy.

The two little boys played for hours. They made sand castles and made really funny sounds with their mouths. Sounds which made them laugh real hard. Then the little boy's father came with a wheelchair to pick up his son. The little boy who had always wanted to fly ran over to the boy's father and whispered something into his ear.

"That would be OK," said the man.

The little boy who had always wanted to fly like a bird ran over to his new friend and said, "You are my only friend and I wish that there was something that I could do to make you walk and run like other little boys and girls. But I can't. But there is something that I can do for you."

The little orphan boy turned around and told his new friend to slide up onto his back. He then began to run across the grass. Faster and faster he ran, carrying the little crippled boy on his back. Faster and harder he ran across the park. Harder and harder he made his legs travel. Soon the wind just whistled across the two little boys' faces.

The little boy's father began to cry as he watched his beautiful little crippled son flapping his arms up and down in the wind, all the while yelling at the top of his voice,

"I'M FLYING, DADDY. I'M FLYING!"

The Tipping Point
Eileen Bennett

When I was in my teens I used to think I had been born at the wrong time - or on the wrong planet! I felt totally out of step with everyone and everything.

Given a choice, I'm not sure what time or what planet I would preferred to have been born into, but I was absolutely certain I was not where I was supposed to be!

Now I feel exactly the opposite! I am where I am supposed to be and when I am supposed to be.

I think we are living in very exciting - if disturbing - times. When you consider all the pain and turmoil in the world, it's easy to think that we are regressing, rather than progressing. On the other hand, when you look at all the amazing things that are happening in different areas, you can see that an awakening is inevitable.

There are groups and individuals all over the world striving to make this a better place to be for everyone. The catch-phrase of the moment is 'tipping point' - and everybody can lend their weight to ensuring that we tip into a positive, life-enhancing future, rather than sink further into a negative, destructive one.

I see it like a see-saw. On one side you have all the angry, fearful people - terrorists, murderers, dictators, extremists, drug, dealers etc - and on the other side are the loving and open people - teachers, healers, seekers, artists, us!

When one side weighs more than the other, the see-saw tips.

I believe that now is the time for the all the people on the loving side to pool their energy so that the see-saw tips in a way that will benefit the whole world.

I can see it happening - more and more every day.

What an incredible privilege to be alive at such at time of transformation!

Two Pounds Of Enthusiasm

Anonymous. I'd like to meet that person sometime. Anonymous has come up with some of the funniest and pithiest expressions I have ever heard. And he (or is it she?) can also be so deeply profound at times.

Like these words from Anonymous about what enthusiasm can do for us:

"Indifference never wrote great works, nor thought out striking inventions, nor reared the solemn architecture that awes the soul, nor breathed sublime music, nor painted glorious pictures, nor undertook heroic philanthropies. All these grandeurs are born of enthusiasm, and are done heartily."

I'm reminded of that great 18th century founder of Methodism, John Wesley. When asked how he drew such large crowds of people to hear him preach, he responded, "I set myself on fire and they come out and watch me burn!" People are drawn to enthusiasm.

Where there is no enthusiasm, there is no passion. Where there is no passion, there is no great living.

Are we meant simply to be satisfied with mediocre lives? From antiquity to the present, indifference has stolen from too many people the chance to do something important with their lives. Their indifference inspires little energy to pursue something truly worthwhile.

One woman went to the market and asked for two pounds of sausage. The clerk yelled at the butcher, "Two pounds of enthusiasm!"

"Why do you call it that?" the bewildered customer asked.

"Because he puts everything he's got into it," the clerk said.

In your daily activities; in your relationships with family, friends and colleagues; in anything you think is important -- what would happen if you "put everything you've got" into it?

Are you ready to find out?

Cupcakes and Root Beer
by Julie A. Manhan

There once was a little boy who wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with cupcakes, several cans of root beer and started on his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he saw an elderly woman. She was sitting on a park bench watching the pigeons. The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed the lady looked hungry so he offered her a cupcake. She gratefully accepted and smiled at him.

Her smile was so wonderful that he wanted to see it again, so he offered a root beer as well. Once again she smiled at him. The boy was delighted!

They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling without saying a word.

As it began to grow dark, the boy realized how tired he was and wanted to go home. He got up to leave but before he had gone no more than a few steps, he turned around and ran back to the old woman, giving her a big hug. She gave him her biggest smile ever.

When the boy arrived home his Mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked, "What has made you so happy today?" He replied, "I had lunch with God." Before his mother could respond he added, "You know what? She's got the most beautiful smile in the whole world!"

Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face. He asked, "Mother, what has made you so happy today?" She replied, "I ate cupcakes in the park with God." And before her son could reply, she added, "You know, he is much younger than I expected."

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring; all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.

Take no one for granted and embrace all equally with joy!

Let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

Create Spring

"Long after the cold, bitter and lost days, the warmth of hope and ideals renewed still remain," he said.

It might seem strange to you. But I get the same relaxing feeling lying on my back in the snow as I do lying on the beach in summer. I close my eyes and listen to the world around me. I hear children laughing and the sun keeps me warm. I have learned to be where I want to be just by closing my eyes.

We've had some snow here where I live. The kind of snow that calls the hearts of young and old alike.

"Come play! Ride the hill and slide down the mountain. Laugh and create tomorrow's memories while you can."

So now that my children play no more beside me in the snow or on the beach, I have all I can do to remember. I bring them back into my life just by lying in the snow and closing my eyes.

It was getting dark and most of the children had headed home to the warmth of dry clothing and a cup of hot chocolate perhaps. I thought it safe to find a spot alongside the hills I once played on. They aren't so big any more. But at this point I find big thoughts in little things.

I laid back and closed my eyes. Off in the distance I could hear the laughter. Wanting it to be so, I swear it was my own two sons and my wife, Marianne making all the noise. Then their voices faded as they have in reality. I remained there in near silence until I heard the crunching sound of bitter cold air and freshly packed snow under foot. It startled me at first, but I remained still until the sound grew louder and the steps quicker.

"Are you Okay?" his voice broke the silence.

Sitting up I could see a man silhouetted against the bright moonlight now reflecting off the snow.

"Yes, I am," I replied. "I'm just dreaming of days lost and moments treasured from the past."

"Your children grew up?" he said.

"Yes they did. But they left me here with the memories. How did you know?"

"I've been there, too," he said.

Now rising to my feet, I could finally see his face. He was an older gentleman with soft white hair tucked into his dark blue stocking cap. The kind I remember wearing when I was in the Navy. His down filled jacket gave him the appearance of a hefty man, but his height, about 5'5" showed him to be small in stature.

"What brings you here?" I asked.

"Well, my grandson was sledding here and somewhere along the way he lost the ring I gave him. He wore it on a chain around his neck. I must have told him a hundred times not to wear it when he's out playing," he said.

"Perhaps I can help you find it," I said.

"I think there's little chance of that. It's getting late and even the bright moon isn't enough light to see it."

"Well, maybe tomorrow, if you get here early enough. It's a school day so the park won't be as crowded," I said. He appeared to be saddened by the loss of the ring. He stood there briefly kicking at the small mounds of snow at the base of the hill.

"Was it very valuable?" I asked.

"Oh, not in dollars and cents. It belonged to my wife. It was my high school ring. I gave it to her when I asked her to "go steady." Maybe that's before your time," he said smiling.

"No, we called it going steady, too."

I felt sorry for him. A memory like that is truly a treasure to hold on to.

"I hope you find it. It really is valuable," I told him.

"If not now, I am sure the Spring thaw will reveal it's location," he said.

"Gee, I wouldn't count on that. I'd keep searching until I found it again," I said

"Like you were searching for those lost days with your children?" he said.

It caught me off guard. The truth does that. "Yes, I have been searching and most likely will the rest of my days," I said.

"Well, my friend, there is a lesson here. Long after the cold, bitter and lost days of our lives, the warmth of hope and ideals renewed still remain," he said.

"I need to wait for my Spring thaw?" I asked.

"Yes. And that comes when you warm up to the realities in your life. Your children could not remain children all of their lives. If God wills it, you will once again experience the joy of children. Theirs. If you did a good enough job, on a day long after you and I have left this Earth, your sons will be found lying on their backs dreaming about their memories in the snow."

"So the only way I'll find what I'm looking for is to stop looking?" I asked.

"Not exactly," he replied. "You need to rid yourself of the cold, bitter outlook you have and warm up to the fact that you have what you are searching for already," he said.

"I want Spring. It is my favorite time in my life. The flowers give me hope," I said.

Then moving closer, he looked into my eyes and said, "Create Spring in your soul so that you will always have the spirit of the flower, even in the dead of Winter."

Create Spring my friend... life is cold enough.

"I believe in You!"

"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury; and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasion, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.

This is to be my symphony."

God Cares

By Mickey Rogers

When I think of God's mercy
And I think of his Love.
Such a wonderful God
Looking down from above.

How He watches His children
While He sits on His thrown
Oh how He loves us
And cares for His own.

He cares for the weak.
He cares for the bold.
He cares for the young.
He cares for the old.

No laughter or smile does
He miss when you're glad.
No tear does he miss
When you're feeling so sad.

He knows what to do
And His timing is great.
He's never too busy
and He's never too late.

So, when you think He's not listening
Or you think He's not there,
Just remember He is watching
And He hears every prayer.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your
neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win
favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

It's today, it's today!
========================

Those are the first words of the movie "Stuart Little".

It's a kiddie movie. I watched it with my two boys.

A little boy began the movie by running out of his bedroom
shouting, "it's today, it's today."

He woke up his parents laying peacefully in their bed shouting,
"it's today, it's
today!" as he jumped gleefully around their bed.

The scene jumped to the three of them leaving the house as the
little boy, George, exclaimed again, "it's today, it's today."

"It's always today," his mother remarked.

"I know, but this is today!" George replied.

Thus began a kiddie movie.

It's amazing how little it takes to fascinate a child.
Such small things can make the world turn for a kid.

I remember my most enthralling possession.

It was a mini-bike.

You rarely see them now, but when I was a kid they were all the
rage.

Basically, it was a very small scooter with a lawnmower engine
on it.

Mine cost $175.00. It was a red Cyclops.

I paid every penny of it. My parents initially bought it but I
worked during the summer paying $25 a week for seven weeks on my
newfound treasure.

I proudly showed my father the automotive type drum brakes on it.

He showed great interest.

I now know that he couldn't have given a hoot about the
engineering of a boy's mini-bike but thank goodness he didn't
show it. I still remember his nodding head as I proudly
explained it.

A childish thing can be remembered for a lifetime.

I remember the first night that I had it my mother walked past
my bedroom and asked, "What's that gasoline smell?" I had
sneaked the mini-bike into the back door and had it parked in
my bedroom. I was just that excited.

She made me put my prized possession in the basement.

I sometimes think about the mini-bike.

Not that I long for it, but to think that so little satisfied so
much when you are so young.

I had to replace my car key recently. The key alone cost $175.
Needless to say, I got no excitement from the key and though the
car cost hundreds of times what the mini-bike cost, I got very
little excitement from the car.

When we are young and uncluttered with the views of typical
adulthood, everything holds a fascination.

The older we get, the more it takes and the shorter the
excitement lasts.

Now we often wake up and say, "another day."

We could learn something from little George.

Little George was expecting wonderful things to happen to him
because it's today. He was expecting to see wonders and miracles
because it's today.

He was expecting to be thrilled, to be amused, to play, to see
and learn something new because it's today.

You know what?

Little George was not disappointed.

Do you know what day it is?

It's today, it's today!

Am a member of the Cole Foundation and follow many children who are battling cancer and other diseases on their Caringbridge/Carepages sites. The following was posted on a young man's site who lost his battle last December well worth reading. His family is sad at their loss but very proud of their son.

The following was written by Tyler for the M.D. Anderson Children's Artwork Scholarship which he did receive to help pay his college tuition in between cancer relapses. It was also read at his funeral service :
Tyler S. Thompson

The Road to My Goal in Life was Paved by My Parents

My name is Tyler Thompson. I grew up in a small town in southern Mississippi with three brothers in a traditional American family. I had a wonderful childhood and after graduating high school I began college in 2005 with aspirations of someday acquiring millions of dollars in the business industry. However, my goals have changed after being diagnosed in February 2006 with acute lymphocytic leukemia . Since my diagnosis, I have been touched by the out pouring of love I have received from my family, friends, and especially everyone involved in the Volunteer Services Department at M.D. Anderson. I feel it an absolute necessity to find a way to help others in ways that I have been helped. My new goal in life is to become a financially stable family man who is able to find time to help people in need. I believe the only way I can achieve these goals is through the two most valuable lessons my parents taught me; hard work and the ability to maintain a positive attitude.

One of my finest personal qualities has always been my work ethic. This is something which I accredit to my father. When my brothers and I were mere children, my father would make us work what sometimes seemed to be all day long. The work included gardening, preparing firewood, every conceivable type of yard work, and assisting him in a countless number of various home and lawn renovation projects. My father was very good at finding work to occupy our spare time. As a child, I despised him for it. As an adult, I hold it as one of the most valuable gifts a son could hope to receive from his father. Without this gift, I would regard myself as utterly hopeless in achieving my goals.

Another of my best personal qualities is my ability to maintain a positive attitude. I have my mother to thank for this quality. My mother is a cheery woman who has the ability to see the silver lining in everything. Although we did not always listen, my mother always preached to us children the importance of attitude. She has taught me that no matter the situation, it could always be worse. Just like my father’s teachings of hard work, I did not always understand and appreciate my mother’s primary lesson. In fact, it took about eighteen years before I really grasped this concept. My mother is a very special woman that I am lucky to have. Without the precious lesson she has taught me, I would be much less capable of achieving my goals.

Since my diagnosis, my life has changed significantly. As horrible as cancer is, there are plenty of good things that I have gained from the experience. I appreciate my family, friends, and life more. I am more generous and aware of the needs of others. I hope I can share some of these great “cancer” lessons I have learned with my friends back home. I have never performed any volunteer work in the past but hope I can be quite involved in it when I am physically able. With the valuable lessons I learned from my parents and the lessons I have learned from my struggle with cancer, I will accomplish my goals in life.

LESSONS LEARNED

There's some things that I regret,
Some words I wish had gone unsaid,
Some starts,
That had some better endings,
Been some bad times I've been through,
Damage I cannot undo.
Some things,
I wish I could do all all over again,
But it don't really matter,
When life gets that much harder,
It makes you that much stronger,
Oh, some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were,
Lessons learned.

And every tear that had to fall from my eyes,
And everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night,
Every change, life has thrown me,
I'm thankful, for every break in my heart,
I'm grateful, for every scar,
Some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned.

There's mistakes that I have made,
Some chances I just threw away,
Some roads,
I never should have taken,
Been some signs I didn't see,
Hearts that I hurt needlessly,
Some wounds,
That I wish I could have one more chance to mend,
But it don't make no difference,
The past can't be rewritten,
You get the life you're given,
Oh, some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were,
Lessons learned.

And every tear that had to fall from my eyes,
And everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night,
Every change, life has thrown me,
I'm thankful, for every break in my heart,
I'm grateful, for every scar,
Some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned.

And all the things that break you,
Are the things that make you strong!
You can't change the past,
Cause it's gone.
And you just gotta move on,
Because it's all
Lessons learned.

And every tear that had to fall from my eyes,
From everyday I wondered how I'd get through the night,
From every change, life has thrown me.
I'm thankful, for every break in my heart,
I'm grateful, for every scar,
Some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned,
Oh, some pages turned,
Some bridges burned,
But there were lessons learned,
Lessons learned.
Lessons learned.

A Shining Moment

I was never a starter for my high school football team. No matter how much I trained and how hard I practiced I was always on the second string. A few of us backups even jokingly called ourselves the bench boys and gave each other nicknames. Mine was "Splinter."

During one of the last games of the year, though, there came a point when I finally made it onto the field with the starters. It was my big chance and I was determined to prove myself. It wasn’t long either before a fumble miraculously bounced its way into my hands. I saw the end zone and turned to run down the field for a touchdown. It was my shining moment and it felt so good. It lasted for about one second. That is when the shoulder pads of three opposing players crashed into my knees, stomach, and back all at once. It was Splinter’s first and last hurrah before heading back to the bench.

Since that time I have had a lot of shining moments in my life although most of them probably didn’t look that bright in the eyes of the world. I have come to see, however, that Heaven looks at life from a different viewpoint. Heaven sees life through God’s eyes and God’s eyes are always the eyes of love. When I open a door for someone, share a smile with a stranger, and laugh with my children then I know that I am glowing bright. When I stop to help another, pass on a kind word, and do a loving act then I know that I am shining in Heaven’s sight. I have come to learn too that it is these shining moments that make up our lives here. When we finally meet God face to face we aren’t going to be asked how many touchdowns we scored but rather how many lives we touched.

May all of your moments here shine with joy. May you glow with Heaven’s goodness and light every single day. And may your entire life be a touchdown of love in God’s eyes.

You Sure Are Lucky...
Ken Morris

Northwest Airlines Captain
Reprinted with permission
from Passages Magazine

It was a hot, muggy August afternoon, and I had every
reason to feel sorry for myself. A comedy of hassles began
with the normal airport security gauntlet, followed by a random drug test, and a missed flight home due to a number of mechanical, weather and late inbound flight problems. Now my flight home was full and late.

During the usual pandemonium at the gate, I noticed a 5-year-old boy standing by his mother and watching me. He looked at me, then my bag, then back at me.

Cautiously, he left his mother's side and slowly began to walk toward me, glancing between my bag, his mother, and me.

"Great," I thought, "now I have to baby-sit a 5-year-old. My day is now complete."

As he came closer, I was both relieved and alarmed that it wasn't me he was after. It was my hat!

I started to tell him not to bother my things, but something made me stop and watch. He stopped in front of my bag, looking at my hat, then up at me.

With wide eyes, he gently touched the bill of my hat. Running his index finger slowly along the edge, carefully touching the emblem.

Again, he looked up at me, now smiling, but saying nothing. I asked him if he would like to wear my captain hat.

He excitedly nodded his head, still smiling. I placed my hat on his head, but it fell down around his ears. He didn't seem to mind and held it up in the proper position with both hands. He ran to show his mother, then back to me still smiling from ear to ear.

With much reverence and ceremony, he slowly removed my hat with both hands and presented it to me as though it were the crown jewels.

I put my hat on and gave him an airplane card. This, too, he held with both hands in awe.

After this exchange, he still hadn't spoken, although I knew he was excited. I also was happy that I had been briefly distracted from my self-pity fest.

Still holding the card carefully with both hands, he looked up at me and said, "Mister, you sure are lucky."

"Yes," I said, "I sure am."

I contemplated the wisdom of a 5-year-old, as I got the last seat on that flight home.

Hello,

My sister-in-law, Pat, is a wonderful Christian who lives in Rhode Island. She is currently undergoing chemo treatments to battle her breast cancer. Pat has used her illness as an opportunity to comfort and minister to others, and I would like to share some of the ways she is showing compassion for others.

Shortly after being diagnosed, she began using her glass kiln to create many pairs of stained-glass type earrings to give out to other cancer patients and to the medical team who work with Pat during her treatments. Pat also designed small gift cards to go with the earrings. She added this scripture on the card: Colossians 1:11: “May you be strengthened with all power, according to [God’s] glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy.”

Recently, Pat’s friend, Meg, shared one instance of how the Lord is able to bring so much good out of Pat's willingness to be used by Him:

Meg wrote …… Last Friday I had the joy of accompanying Pat to her chemo session. We were ushered into a very small room with just enough room for two chemo chairs, a TV, and two companion chairs. One of the chemo chairs was already taken by a sad looking woman named Janice. Right away you noticed her very short hair that was obviously growing back in from her treatments. Her abdomen was also large and very distended. She grimaced in pain as she shifted her body to find a comfortable spot in her chair.

We introduced ourselves and Pat asked her about her cancer. Hesitantly she said that she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last spring. Now there was not much they could do for her and the drugs she was getting were just to make her comfortable. At first she was very closed. She didn’t even want to look at Pat’s earrings and dismissed them saying she didn’t wear jewelry. She was totally disinterested. I thought that this was going to be one long chemo session. We gently asked her about her faith. She said her faith was private. We let it go.

But then things started to change. Janice started asking Pat questions about her cancer and her family, etc. Pat told her about her faith journey as well and how much God has helped her get through this time. Janice then must have felt in a safe place because she told us that she had asked Christ into her life many years ago when she was living in NJ. She had been involved in a close-knit church that cared for her. She attended Bible studies. But when she moved back to RI, she had let that part of her life slip. Pat so gently encouraged her to read the Psalms (she did have a Bible) and to pray through them. Pat shared about her church and gave her a business card with her phone number on it and told her to call any time if she wanted us to pray for her or just to talk.

By the end of two hours, Janice’s whole countenance had changed. She was smiling and very relaxed. She even picked out two pairs of earrings to give to those who take care for her. She was amazed that they were free and so excited that she would have a gift to give them so she could bless them. We left Janice knowing that we probably won’t see her here again. But just think of the reunion in heaven some day.

We got into the elevator to leave the building pumped that we saw God at work in the chemo room. Pat remarked to me that just that very day in her “Passages” Bible study homework the question was asked—Do you share your faith? Pat wrote down…well, maybe a little, but not really verbally. We both agreed that Friday afternoon the answer to that question was a resounding YES! So pray for dear Janice to get closer to God in her last days and that she will feel His presence.

As I read Meg’s message about their conversation with Janice, the following scripture came to mind. I think this is a perfect illustration of what this passage teaches us:

2 Corinthians 1:3 - 5

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ."

The Lord used Pat and Meg to bring such beauty and joy to this hurting lady. Janice entered that chemo treatment room with a heavy heart and surely left with praise on her lips!! The Lord was truly glorified in that place!

Isaiah 61:3

" ... to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified."

Blessings!

Rita, thank you for sharing this inspiring page from Pat's life. What a friend we have in Jesus, to guide us to say the right words at just the right time as He did for Pat and Meg in talking with Janice.
Have a blessed day! Hugs to all!

Smile A Little Sunday Humor

A pastor concluded that his church was getting into very serious
financial troubles. While checking the church storeroom, he discovered
several cartons of new bibles that had never been opened and
distributed.

So at his Sunday sermon, he asked for three volunteers from the
congregation who would be willing to sell the bibles door-to-door for
$10 each to raise the desperately needed money for the church.

Jack, Paul and Louie all raised their hands to volunteer for the task.

The minister knew that Jack and Paul earned their living as salesmen and
were likely capable of selling some bibles. But he had serious doubts
about Louie who was a local farmer, who had always kept to himself
because he was embarrassed by his speech impediment. Poor Louis
stuttered badly. But, NOT WANTING TO discourage Louis, the Minister
decided to let him try anyway.

He sent the three of them away with the back seat of their cars stacked
with bibles. He asked them to meet with him and report the results of
their door-to-door selling efforts the following Sunday.

Anxious to find out how successful they were, the minister immediately
asked Jack, "Well, Jack, how did you make out selling our bibles last
week?"

Proudly handing the reverend an envelope, Jack replied, "Using my sales
prowess, I was able to sell 20 bibles, and here's the $200 I collected
On behalf of the church."Fine job, Jack!" The minister said,
vigorously shaking his hand. "You are indeed a fine salesman and the
Church is indebted to you." Turning to Paul, "And Paul, how many
bibles did you sell for the Church last week?"

Paul, smiling and sticking out his chest, confidently rep lied, "I am a
professional salesman. I sold 28 bibles on behalf of the church, and
here's $280 I collected." The minister responded, "That's
absolutely splendid, Paul. You are truly a professional salesman and the
church is indebted to you."

Apprehensively, the minister turned to Louie and said, "And Louie, did
you manage to sell any bibles last week?" Louie silently offered the
minister a large envelope.

The minister opened it and counted the contents. "What is this?"
the minister exclaimed. "Louie, there's $3200 in here! Are you
suggesting that you sold 320 bibles for the church, door to door, in
just one week?" Louie just nodded. That's impossible!" both Jack and
Paul said in unison. "We are professional salesmen, yet you claim to
have sold 10 times as many bibles as we could." "Yes, this does seem
unlikely," the minister! agreed. "I think you'd better explain how you
managed to accomplish this, Louie."L ouie shrugged. "I-I-I
re-re-really do-do-don't kn-kn-know f-f-f-for sh-sh-sh-sure," he
stammered.

Impatiently, Peter interrupted. "For crying out loud, Louie, just tell
us what you said to them when they answered the door!". "A-a-a-all I-I-I
s-s-said wa-wa-was," Louis replied, "W-w-w-w-would y-y-y-you
l-l-l-l-l-like t-t-to b-b-b-buy th-th-th-this b-b-b-b-bible F-f-for
t-t-ten b-b-b-bucks ---o-o-o-or--- wo-wo-would yo-you j-j-j-just l-like
m-m-me t-t-to st-st-stand h-h-he re and r-r-r-r-r-read it t-to
y-y-you??"

Whatever your cross, whatever your pain,

There will always be sunshine after the rain ..

Perhaps, you may stumble; perhaps, even, fall;

But God's always ready to answer your call ..

He knows every heartache, sees every tear;

A word from His lips can calm every fear ..

Your sorrows may linger throughout the night,

But suddenly vanish by dawn's early light ..

The Savior is waiting somewhere above

To give you His grace and send you His love.

May God fill your day with blessings!!

Be kinder than necessary, for
everyone you meet is fighting
some kind of battle.

One-minute Sermon

He Loves.
He made.
We sinned.
He came.
He died.
He lives.
He paid.
We're forgiven.
It's free.
No strings.
Spread the word so they can choose, death or Jesus.
Do it to say thank you, not to get points.
He's coming back to pick us up.
Until He does, talk to Him and stick together.
Be nice. Don't fight.
Laugh together.
Cry together.
Help each other.
Try not to hurt each other.
When you do hurt each other, be sorry.
When you do get hurt, forgive.
Keep getting better at both.
Look for stuff that's good.
It'll help pass the time 'til He gets here.
Meantime...
try to be more like Him.
Wait.
And while you're waiting...
Love.

Barb ... I'm so sorry you have been plauged with colds. Hasn't this been the worst winter for colds and viruses?! Take lots of extra Vitamin C and take care.

Here's an uplifting story I thought I'd share. ~ ~ ~ Rita

```````````````
Quilt of Holes
As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.
Before each of us lay our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life.
But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. Each was filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult . . . the challenges and temptations I was faced with in everyday life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all.
I glanced around me. No one else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened. My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air.
Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been!
My angel looked upon me and nodded for me to rise. My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn’t had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life and laughter, but there had also been trials of illness, finances and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again.
I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up the Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me. And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was. I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light.
An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes. Then I looked upon the tapestry before me.
Light flooded the many holes, creating an image … the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, ‘Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles. Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and allowed Me to shine through, until there was more of Me than there was of you.’
May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through! When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need.
