Leave Regrets Behind

While we travel this journey of life,
Things may not always go as we planned;
Problems arise and tend to stir up strife,
We must pray and hold to God's hand.

Trials and sufferings come and then go,
Sometimes things said are not always kind;
Sadness may come and cause tears to flow,
We must leave all sad regrets behind.

Our loved ones may try to help us,
Our friends may not always understand;
The Best Friend we'll ever have is Jesus,
He is always with us to hold our hand.

Our journey in life may become dim,
Problems so often arise to torment the mind;
The Blood of Jesus covers all our sin,
Leaving all our sad regrets behind.

Forgive to be Forgiven...be humble and pray,
Don't dwell on sad things that are past;
This life is quite brief and then some day,
Only things done for Jesus will forever last.

Things will not always be as they are now,
The time will come when we will find;
At the pierced feet of Jesus we shall bow,
Then gladly...we'll leave all sad regrets behind.

All things work for the good
Though sometimes we can't
See how they could
Struggles that break our hearts in two
Sometimes blind us to the truth
Our Father knows what's best for us
His ways are not our own
So when your pathway grows dim
And you just can't see him,
Remember He's still on the throne

God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don't understand
When don't see his plan
When you can't trace his hand
Trust His Heart

He sees the master plan
He holds the future in his hand,
Don't live as those who have no hope,
While our hope is found in him.
We see the present clearly
But he sees the first and last
And like a tapestry He's weaving you and me,
To someday be just like him

God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don't understand
When don't see his plan
When you can't trace his hand
Trust His Heart

He alone is faithful and true
He alone knows what is best for you

God is too wise to be mistaken
God is too good to be unkind
So when you don't understand
When don't see his plan
When you can't trace his hand
Trust His Heart

When you can't trace his hand
When you don't see his plan
When you don't understand
Trust His Heart

PEACE:
To be at one with God is to be at peace.... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul.

Spiritual Medication

Demographic experts tell us that there is a general spiritual awakening among people of various faiths. Some are returning to "organized" religions. Others are seeking spiritual answers along other paths. However it is done, people are realizing the importance of a healthy spiritual dimension to their lives.

One man tells about a time when his wife suffered from a headache. She took medication and lay down, but nothing seemed to help.

Her six-year-old daughter was concerned about her Mommy's health, so the ailing woman asked her if she would like to pray for her. Little Leia said that she would. Leia put her hand on her mother's head and prayed the only prayer she knew: "Lord, thank you for this food..."

I imagine that the words she uses are not important. In fact, I don't know if any words are really adequate to express our deepest spiritual desires. Moreover, what seems most crucial is not so much how "good" we are at praying, but that we simply pause regularly to nurture the souls. Prayer is a dose of spiritual medication that, taken daily, can enhance all of life.

Leonardo da Vinci spent countless hours ruminating upon things of the spirit as he worked on his famous canvas of the Last Supper. He spent so much time meditating in the cloister that some of the monks in the community became concerned. They argued with the artist about his wasting precious time and money. "Why do you spend so much time with us in prayer when you have come here to work?" they wondered.

Leonardo answered, "When I pause the longest, I make the most telling strokes with my brush."

I do not feel I am all that good with prayer, but I am sure I'm not much good without it.

When God leads you to the edge of the cliff,
trust Him fully and let go,
only 1 of 2 things will happen,
either He'll catch you when you fall,
or He'll teach you how to fly!

I wrote this poem for a friend of mine that had a very bad accident. A bulldozer rolled over on him when he was at work and now he is a paraplegic. He has NEVER missed a beat in thanking God - even for the accident. He is such an encouragement to me. Believe it or not, though he is paralyzed from the neck down, he has NEVER complained about ANYTHING. I am in awe at his stand for God. His wife is just as thankful. Here is the poem that I feel depicts his life in Christ:

NO MATTER WHAT
(For my friend, John)

If the things I want so much
Are things I never get to touch

If I pray and do my part
If the yearning’s in my heart
But you don’t answer me

Lord, no matter what I do
I’ll still love you

If you don’t do one thing more
I’ll be happy, that’s for sure

If I long to hear a “yes”
When you know it’d make a mess
So you say “no” to me

Lord, no matter what I do
I’ll still love you

If you make me wait forever
Or if you should tell me “never”

If you see me through this life
If you get me past the strife
I’ll tell you every day

Lord, no matter what I do
I’ll still love you

If there is constant pain
And never any gain

If you live within my heart
If I know we’ll never part
And you let me know you’re there

Lord, no matter what I do
I’ll still love you

Here is one that I wrote right after 9/11. If you have lost a loved one, I hope it helps:

GOD WANTS ONLY THE BEST

The phone rang as I watched my TV
It was my neighbor's little boy on the phone for me
A little voice sounded frightened and shaky
Do you know where my mommy and daddy are, lady?

They aren't at home; they were supposed to be.
They were coming by plane, at half past three.
Can you please help me find them? They don't answer their phone,
And I'm too little to be left here alone.

I ran to that house, to that scared little boy
And held him and kissed him; it brought him some joy.
But how do I tell him the truth I now knew?
What do I tell him? What do I do?

With tears streaming down, and a wrenched broken heart,
I told him the story right from the start.
I said, "God looked down from heaven today.
He told an angel to find those who pray."

"Bring them to Me, bring only the best,
I want to give them a nice place to rest.
I have beautiful mansions, right here up above
And I want the best people to fill them with love."

The angel flew down and started his search
He heard people praying and saw a plane lurch.
These must be the ones that need God's rest.
They're calling on Him, they must be His best.

The angel guided the large plane on his wings
And he presented these people to the King of Kings.
"Here are the ones You wanted to see,
They sure look and sound like the best ones to me!"

The little boy's eyes filled up with big tears
But I was glad to see wonder replace all his fears.
Are my mommy and daddy there with the rest?
Yes, God took them to heaven, He chose only the best.
---------------------------------
Blessings to all of you. You have filled my heart with gratitude!

Thank you for that poem, Caterina. This is such a somber day for so many and should be for all Americans. It stil lives so vividly in my mind and in my heart. It is hard to fathom that such horrendous acts took place with no warning killing all those people in N.Y., PA. and the Pentagon. Everyone's way of life was changed on that fateful day and we shouldn't become complacent and forget. This is still a day of mourning and remembrance. Once again the tears flow, the unbelief so real that something so horrendous could happen. Take a moment to reflect on the implications of September 11, 2001 and the lessons it has taught us. May God bless everyone!

Default Another poem written right after 9/11

WE ARE AMERICANS

We are Americans
United we stand
The light's reaching out
All over this land.

Some filled with sorrow
Some filled with grief
And some thanking God
To be filled with relief.

Hugging and crying
And waiting for news
Streets littered with paper,
And somebody's shoes.

There are times like these
That make us so strong
We put our hand o'er our hearts
And sing our great song.

Oh say can you see
The people's refrain
Come heal this land
Take away all the pain.

For we are Americans
United we stand
Our light won't go out
All over this land.

God Will See You Through

When trials come as they so often will,
When the road of life seems all uphill;
Pause for a moment and be still,
Keep your Faith strong and hold on!

Someone you meet may be troubled today,
The blue skies in their life may be gray;
Pause for a moment and silently pray,
Keep your Faith strong and hold on!

Don't be discouraged if burdens come to you,
Seems everyone has them in what we do;
It may be difficult, but God will see you through,
Keep your Faith strong and hold on!

Trials may come to you day or night,
Your walk in life may not be bright;
Focus your eyes on Jesus...He is the Light,
Keep your Faith strong and hold on!

Just keep holding on and don't give up,
Don't allow your mind to become corrupt;
There may be a bitter (or) better cup,
Keep your Faith strong and hold on!

Hold on a little longer, my friend,
Someday all these burdens will end;
Saints to Heaven shall then Ascend,
Just keep your Faith strong and hold on!

> A Keeper

Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep.

It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant
affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.

But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth
of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.

Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never
to return. So... While we have it... it's best we love it.. And care for it.... And fix it when it's broken.... And heal it when it's sick.

This is true... For marriage.... And old cars.... And children with bad
report cards..... Dogs and cats with bad hips.... And aging parents....
And grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with.

There are just some things that make life important, like people we know
who are special.... And so, we keep them close!

VERSE:
"Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and
remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living
creatures of every kind on the earth."
-- Genesis 9:16

THOUGHT:
I don't know about you, but I'm a very visual person. I truly
appreciate the way God made the world with all its variety, color,
and rich diversity. I am thankful for the way he used certain key
images in our world to remind us of his daily provision and eternal
grace. The beauty of a rainbow is not just in its wonderful colors
or in the aroma of fresh rain, but in the promise that our God has
chosen to link himself to our destiny and to involve himself in our
world!

PRAYER:
Almighty God, thank you for making your great promises when we
had no right to expect them, much less to demand them. Thank you
for attaching those promises to things in my everyday world so that
I can be reminded of your constant and watchful care. In Jesus'
name I pray. Amen.

One Leaf

I was walking out my door yesterday when a strong gust of wind blew something into my face. Getting over the shock I pulled it off of my glasses. It was single red leaf that had gotten taken for a ride on that windy September day. I held this messenger of Fall in my hand and looked at it closely. It looked like it had lived its life well. It probably had first popped out on a cold April morning giving the first hope of Spring to some Winter weary soul who saw it. It must have given shelter to singing birds and shade to tired children too. From the holes in it I would guess that it gave more than one meal to a hungry insect during the hot Summer months. Now it was ending its life at its most beautiful with its radiant red adding to the glorious painting from God that covers the mountains during Autumn here. I knew too that its work wasn’t done yet, because in death it would return to the soil and help God to bring about new life next Spring.

My little leaf reminded me too of all the good I can do in my own short life here. If one, red leaf can do so much for this world then how much more can one human life do? I am going to do my best then to live my own life well. I am going to do all I can to give hope to the weary, to comfort the tired, and to feed those with hungry hearts. I am going to try and live so that my last days are my most beautiful: full of the colors of love, joy, and oneness with God.

Remember you may just be one leaf in this world’s mighty forest, but without your love and your life the forest is less. Remember too that tomorrow is another chance to live, to learn, to laugh, and to love in this world. Do your best then. Share your beauty. Help others. Commit yourself to life before death as well as to life after death. God didn’t put you here just to hang on a tree. God put you here to live well and color this world with the light of your soul. God put you here to help make this world a better and more beautiful place for those who will follow.

Of Roses and Thorns

A certain man planted a rose and watered it faithfully.
Before it blossomed, he examined it.
He saw a bud that would soon blossom.
He also saw the thorns, and he thought,
"How can any beautiful flower come from a plant,
burdened with so many sharp thorns?"
Saddened by this thought, he neglected to water the rose,
and before it was ready to bloom, it died.
So it is with many people ...
Within every soul ... there is a Rose.
The "God-like" qualities planted in us at birth,
growing amidst the thorns of our faults.
Many of us look at ourselves and see only the thorns, the defects.
We despair, thinking nothing good can possibly come from us.
We neglect to water the good within us,
and eventually it dies.
We never realize our potential.
Some don't see the rose within themselves ...
It takes someone else to show it to them.
One of the greatest gifts a person can possess ...
is to be able to reach past the thorns and find the rose within others.
This is the truest, most innocent, and gracious characteristic of love -
to know another person,
including their faults, recognize the nobility in their soul,
and yet still help another to realize they can overcome their faults.
If we show them the rose, they will conquer the thorns.
Only then will they blossom,
and most likely, blooming thirty, sixty, a hundred-fold,
as it is given to them.
Our duty in this world is to help others,
by showing them their roses and not their thorns.
It is then that we achieve the love we should feel for each other.
Only then can we bloom in our own garden.

A very good morning to all.

EVERLASTING EASE

I wanted “Fields of Clover”
Or a cushy “Lily Pad”;
But God’s desire soared over
All the lofty dreams I had.

He knew that I would never
Be a minister of grace
If “Happiness Forever”,
Didn’t blow up in my face.

His reverie rose higher
Than my wishes dared to fly.
His hopes flared up life’s fire
For self-centered wings to die.

Instead of soft surroundings,
He provided tough terrain.
Still, blessings kept abounding
When high humps and bumps brought pain.

He gutted my “Rose Garden”,
Yet, He left those thorns which sting.
Heart’s sod is not down trodden,
Cause each prickle helps me cling.

I looked for lush and dainty
But I got Love’s cramped cocoon.
I’m glad He didn’t feed me
With a carnal “Silver Spoon”.

I’m sanctified through sadness;
Sorrow makes my spirit strong.
Grief gifts my lips with gladness
When “God’s Grace” becomes my song.

So “Happy Ever After”
Isn’t always “Easy Street”,
It’s knowing “Heaven’s Laughter”...
Following our Savior’s feet.

NEED WASHING?

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Target. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. We all stood there under the awning and just outside the door of Target.

We waited, some patiently, others irritated because it messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.

The little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in.

'Mom, let's run through the rain,' she said.

' What?' Mom asked.

'Lets run through the rain!' she repeated..

'No, Honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit,' Mom replied.

This young child waited about another minute and repeated: 'Mom, let's run through the rain,'

'We'll get soaked if we do,' Mom said.

'No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning,' the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm.

'This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?'

'Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this, He can get us through anything!''

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few moments.

Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.. Now so me would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life: a time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.

'Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If GOD lets us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing,' Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and, yes, through the puddles. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.

And, yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions. They can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories. So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories everyday.

'To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.' Ecclesiastes 3:1

I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE THE TIME TO RUN THROUGH THE RAIN.

Newspaper Readers
Here's how to keep all that political "news" in perspective . . .

Demographics of American Newspapers:

1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.

2. The Washington Post is read by people who think they run the country.

3. The New York Times is read by people who think they should run the country and who are very good at crossword puzzles.

4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don't really understand The New York Times. They do, however, like their statistics shown in pie charts.

5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn't mind running the country -- if they could find the time -- and if they didn't have to leave Southern California to do it.

6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country and did a poor job of it, thank you very much.

7. The New York Daily News is read by people who aren't too sure who is running the country and don't really care as long as they can get a seat on the train.

8. The New York Post is read by people who don't care who is running the country as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated.

9. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running from another country but need the baseball scores.

10. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure if there is a country or that anyone is actually running it, but if so, they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority feminists, atheists who also happen to be illegal aliens from any another country or galaxy, provided of course, that they are not Republicans.

11. The National Enquirer is read by people trapped in line at the grocery store.

12. The Seattle Times, The Austin American Statesman and Nashville Tennessean are read by people who have recently caught a fish and need something to wrap it in.

That is too funny! Thanks for the laugh! The best one was the last one about wrapping a fish, a very good use for all the newspapers listed!

Blue Rose

Why do I always have to be the one that starts to do laundry and there's no detergent? I guess it was time for me to do my 'Dollar Store' run, which included light bulbs, paper towels, trash bags and Clorox. So off I go.

I scurried around the store, gathered up my goodies, and headed for the checkout counter only to be blocked in the narrow aisle by a young man that appeared to be about sixteen-years- old. I wasn't in a hurry, so I patiently waited for the boy to realize that I was there..

This was when he waved his hands excitedly in the air and declared in a loud voice, 'Mommy, I'm over here.' It was obvious now, he was mentally challenged, and Also startled as he turned and saw me standing so Close to him, waiting to squeeze by. His eyes Widened and surprise exploded on his face as I said, 'Hey Buddy, what's your name?' 'My name is Denny and I'm shopping with my mother,' he responded proudly. 'Wow,' I said, 'that's a cool name; I wish my name was Denny, but my name is Hal.' 'Hal like Halloween?' he asked. 'Yes,' I answered. 'How old are you Denny?

'How old am I now Mommy?' he asked his mother as she slowly came over from the next aisle. 'You're fifteen-years-old Denny; now be a good boy and let the man pass by.' I acknowledged her and continued to talk to Denny for several more minutes about summer, bicycles and school. I watched his brown eyes dance with excitement because he was the center of someone's attention.

He then abruptly turned and headed toward the toy section.

Denny's mom had a puzzled look on her face and thanked me for taking the time to talk with her son.

She told me that most people wouldn't even look at him, much less talk to him... I told her that it was my pleasure and then I said something I have no idea where it came from, other than by the prompting of God's Holy Spirit.

I told her that there are plenty of red, yellow and pink roses in God's garden, however, 'Blue Roses' are very rare and should be appreciated for their beauty and distinctiveness. You see, Denny is a 'Blue Rose' and if someone doesn't stop and smell that rose with their heart and touch that rose with their kindness, then they've missed a blessing from God.

She was silent for a second, then with a tear in her eye she asked, 'Who are you?' Without thinking I said, 'Oh, I'm probably just a 'daffodil or maybe even a dandelion,' but I sure love living in God's garden.

Happy Wednesday to everyone!

What’s Waiting For Us At Home

When I was a little boy I used to wait for that final bell to ring at the end of the school day. As much as I enjoyed school and being with my friends I always looked forward to getting on that school bus and heading home. Once I got dropped off I would almost run across the old, shaky, swinging bridge that spanned the river and led to my house. I would open the door with a big smile on my face too because I knew what would be waiting for me: a warm home, a warm meal, and a warm hug.

After I grew up and had children of my own I always tried to have those 3 things waiting for them as well. They knew too that anytime they visited their grandparents or great-grandparents that they would get more of the same. It was, after all, a family tradition.

Of the three, however, I think that it was the warm hugs that my children and I enjoyed most of all. As a boy those hugs kept me warm even on those cold, Winter days when the house was drafty and everyone was crowded around the wood stove. As a man giving those hugs still brought a big, warm smile to my kids’ faces even when my cooking left something to be desired. It is those hugs that I still share freely with my children even now that they are as big as I am. It is those hugs that I hope to share with my future grandchildren too. It is those hugs with their armfuls of joy that can help us all to share our love for each other.

It is those hugs that I hope to share one day with my Heavenly Father as well. "God is love" and I can think of no more loving way to greet Him when I finally make it "Home". In fact, I think His loving arms await us all. We need only to open our hearts and our arms to Him as well. Join in God’s family tradition then. Fill your house with warm hugs, gentle love, and joyous oneness with him. It is, after all, what’s waiting for you at "Home".

Enabling Love

How can I fathom Your love?
You are always HERE --
with knowledge
of who I am,
with promise
of who I can be.
To become like You
is my longing,
to know You
is my heart's desire.
Oh, touch my soul
with coals of fire,
make my love
burn higher, higher!

King of my life,
draw me near.
Enfold me in Your graces,
empower me to win,
infuse me with Your essence
so that I am ready,
cleansed, enabled, bold within.
Then send me forth
to do Your will,
to touch my world,
and help to bring them in.

Almighty, wise, eternal God,
fill me
with Your love
that I may love them
as You do,
and give my life,
my all,
for YOU.

A Piece Of Paper

I'm a piece of paper
lying on the floor
just a piece of paper
paper, nothing more
naked as a "blue" jay
since the day i'm born
empty and forgotten
lonely and forlorn

then He saw me lying
wasted on the ground
stepped-on all my life
lost but now i'm found
He reached down and touched me
held me in His hand
now i know my purpose
now i understand

Just a piece of paper,
Blind once, now I see ~
He took out His pen,
Wrote LOVE all over me!
Changed my whole existence!
Transformed me, and Wham!
My life now has meaning,
'Cause of Whose I am!

Jerry Lewis Plays Basketball?

Mine was not a family of sports enthusiasts. Oh, there were those occasions when we might go to a stock car race or the occasional bowling tournament, but none of my family participated in high school sports. In fact, my personal encounters with sports may require therapy.

Let me explain.

When I was in third grade, there was this guy who had been held back nineteen times, in fact his son just passed on to fourth grade the year before (OK, that's not true). This guy was as big as third graders come. He even had a voice reminiscent of Sylvester Stallone.

A group of us guys gathered around the basketball hoop on the playground. The basketball was thrown skyward and a few of them even hit the backboard. I was probably the smallest kid in class and I had never actually gotten the ball before - ever. In my school, the unwritten rule was that if you got the ball when it fell back to the ground then you got to shoot it.

This was a day of miracles. The ball fell my direction and for the first time in my school career, I was going to shoot a basketball - or was I.

"Give me the ball," a deep husky voice said as a shadow fell across my face. "Uh, I just wanted to throw the ball." My reply sounded vaguely like Jerry Lewis in "The Nutty Professor".

"I said, GIVE ME THE BALL," the voice replied with a thinly veiled threat behind it - no, I take that back, it was a genuine threat that promised the use of fists.

"Uh, if I could just toss it up, I'm sure you could get it right back, I just..." I stopped talking, at least I don't remember saying anything else. I woke up in the nurse's office. "The Voice" had punched me in the face, which accounted for the black eye. Then there was the fact that I was knocked out, which often happens when small heads come in contact with the hard surface of a playground.

It was that day that I determined basketball was not for me. It would be in high school that I became convinced that there was no sport that would ever hold an interest for me. It happened in Phys. Ed.

"OK, worm food, I want you to crawl on your bellies and wipe up the floor from last period," Coach called out to us freshmen (all right, I'm probably not remembering clearly on this point either). I had absolutely no interest in sports and yet Phys. Ed was mandatory, so I was out there playing prison ball. Surprisingly it was on this day that I was nearly the last guy standing. I finally thought I was getting the hang of this sports thing. Being small had its advantages; I could dodge the ball pretty easily. Balls would swish by my head and I would jump and duck, and my classmates cheered me on. I smiled as I thought, "Hey, I might be pretty good at this after all, I...". Suddenly everything went black.

When I tried to open my eyes I was in the locker room. This was more a revelation based on the sense of smell than sight (if you've ever visited an adolescent male locker room you get the picture). It seems I hadn't been paying close enough attention and someone sent that large rubber ball on a collision course with my face.

Two black eyes!

When people asked me about it, it might have been nice to have been able to say something like, "you should have seen the other guy." Instead, I had to suffer through the humiliation of laughter, due to the fact that a stupid rubber ball took out some gangly freshman.

My wife, Nancy, on the other hand comes from a family in which she and all her siblings participated in sports and all of them were pretty good at it. And because they all are younger than I, there would be many occasions for me to see basketball, volleyball and football games. I began to take notice of the skill involved in playing the game and could appreciate the fundamental training required to excel.

These days, I have favorite college and professional teams. I have even come to understand the games pretty well. You might even call me a fan. I still don't want to get out there and play. I tried it once with sand volleyball and quickly recalled that there were reasons why I didn't play. My team laughed so hard every time I hit the ball that they were ill prepared to get the ball back across the net. Some even mentioned incriminating film that could easily be sent to that "funny video" show.

God gives us gifts to use for His honor and glory. I'm trying to use the gifts He's given me to do just that. However, there are many times when we don't think the gifts He has given us are as special as someone else's. Because we think that what they are doing is more important, we try to do the same thing and fail miserably.

If, as Christians, we are all members of one body (and we are), then it stands to reason that each of us have a different job to do. And it doesn't matter if you are a hand, an eye or the left knee cap, if God has equipped you for that place in the body of Christ then you are the right person for the job.

I have learned that it's perfectly acceptable to appreciate someone who has been given a particular gift from God and allow them to shine for Him in the performance of that gift. We shouldn't try to do the same thing; we might not be equipped for it, we might not be good at it, we might wind up with spiritual black eyes.

DUCK!!!!

In any society or family,
Man, boy, woman, girl

For those going through...
Something that seems hard to bear,
Some problem that you think is impossible to solve,
Some feelings of such great despair and depression

For everyone everywhere because at different points
in our lives, we all go through

Think of the 'last' worst thing that has happened to you;
the worst thing that has ever happened in your life.

Now come to the realization that you actually did make it
through that;
that you really did survive it all.

Now start rejoicing (even if you don't feel like it) on the fact
that you will overcome this also.

Be encouraged because this too shall pass!

It always does.
