Scary complications!

Hello Everyone,

I am here to humbly ask for your help. My mother, Sue AKA Dove 7, entered the hospital on Friday for a scheduled surgery. I was there with her the whole time. She came out of recovery and the doctor was well pleased with what he had accomplished. He told me that she came through just fine.

Unfortunately, I believed him and left the hospital to run some errands while my mother slept. An hour later my sister called me; she was hysterical. My mother had awakened screamming in pain and her blankets were quickly turning red with blood. On top of that her blood pressure dropped and she couldn't mover her leg.

The nurses were scrambling to asses what was wrong. They were very concerned. I of course rushed back to the hospital. My mother was as white as the sheet. We were all terrified. After what seemed like hours she finally started to stabilize. They found the source of the bleed and put her on a morphine drip to control the pain. However, she still could not move her leg. When they touched her leg; she could feel it. Her brain would just not move it when she told it too. The doctor believed it could be linked to the anesthesia.

After the scare she seemed to calm and get some rest. Around 11:30 PM she was even able to move her leg. We thought the worst was over. I went home to my 3 kids, and my sis stayed in the room with her. The following morning I received a call. My mother had almost fainted when they tried to help her stand after removing the catheter. The doctor was concerned so he had the catheter put back in. Then she started looking blue. She wasn't getting enough oxygen. So, they took her off the morphine and put her on an oxygen mask. They decided to try and use a different pain medication, because their goal is to get her ready to go home.

Well, she had an allergic reaction to the new medication!! I am sorry I am rambling on and on. I have just been so stressed and worried all weekend, but I'll come to the point. I was hoping some of you amazing ladies would be willing to send her a card and include her in your prayers. As we all know prayers heal and cards brighten!! You can send them to my address and I will take them to her.

Thank you all so, so much!! God bless you!
Mary

Thanks, Kay, you are such a sweetheart.

My mom has returned home from the hospital. She is in a lot of pain, and is unable to walk more than 2 or 3 steps without assistance. She will be close to bedridden for quite sometime, according to the doctors orders. I found her crying in pain when I checked on her earlier this evening. It's very hard for me to see because she has always been the strong one.

I do feel fortunate to be able to give back. Time and prayers are what will eventually lead to her healing. However, All of your wonderful cards will certainly lift her spirits. Thank you so much for taking a few minutes to cheer her. I greatly appreciate it, and I know she will too.

Mary

Those of you saying prayers for my mom please be diligent today. She is in tremendous pain. She is unable to vacate her bladder or have a bowel movement. Her temperature has spiked, and when she's not feverish she is having cold sweats. I am afraid she will have to return to the hospital if her bodies healing mechanisms don't kick in soon.

So once again I am pleading for prayer. She has not received any cards yet, but I will let you all know when she does. I'm sure they will be an incredibly bright spot in a rather dim recovery. Thanks.

My mother received several cards today. Her face just lit up!! She is still experiencing alot of pain. Yesterday she was able to walk as far as the bathroom unaided!! Such a small feat feels like a huge triumph. Today has brought with it too much pain for walking, but her spirits are better. She isn't crying and that is a bonus.

Thank you all so, so much for aiding me in keeping her spirits up. She is so funny. She opens each card, savoring them, touching and reading them. Then she shows them to me. Commenting on each one.

Hello Ladies,

First of all, Thank you a million times over for the cards that have been arriving daily. They have been such a blessing. I have good news and bad news concerning my mom.

First the good news, she has been able to be up a bit more, and the pain has lessoned. She still can't sit or negotiate more than a short distance, but things have improved in that respect.

Now for the bad news. She has been bleeding. It is not a gush or anything; more like a slow, steady flow, but it does have her doctors concerned. She goes back to the hospital today for some poking and prodding. Hopefully she will not have to remain there for long. Please pray that they discover the reason for the bleeding.

I will keep you all updated as I learn more. Once again thanks so much for the prayer and Beautiful cards. She really appreciates them.

Mary

My mom is home, but very sleepy. The doctor told her that because she has over 50 stitches dissolving at different times she may experience some bleeding for up to 5 weeks. He also said that she can expect pain for up to 3 months, and it will be up to 5 months before she gets any feeling back in certain areas. The nerves were damaged and will take that long to heal. So despite her anxiousness to get back to normal; it looks as though that won't happen for some time. He also said that the constipation she has been experiencing could be putting undo pressure on the healing wound; causing more blood than she expected.

Hello Everyone,

I am so sorry for not giving you all an update sooner. My mother is still bleeding. The doctor said it could continue for up to 3 more weeks, and what's worse she also has some drainage from an infection. He put her on an antibiotic over a week ago and it hasn't cleared up. So, he is pretty concerned. She has to go back right away this week, so they can rule out a serious infection, such as staff. So, please say a prayer for her.

On the positive side, all of the stitches have finally dissolved, so she can sit again without discomfort. We were able to have a nice dinner for mother's day, but she needed to rest as soon as we were done.

She has been so blessed by all the cards and prayers. It is her goal to send each of you a thank you card. She said it will give her something to do during this long recovery. God Bless all of you for your kind and generous hearts.

Mary

I just came across this thread and feel for your mom in all her pain. I hope that soon she will get the word that she truly is on the road to recovery. It will make all she's been through seem a bit more worth it. And hugs to you for giving her such great support guring this time. It's difficult to see our parents in pain and distress. I'll send a card out tomorrow.

Hi Victoria and Everyone,

My mom is doing much better. She still has some issues with being numb in the area, and the doctor has said that none of her stitches have fully dissolved yet. So he will see her again soon to keep an eye on that.

Thanks to all of you who sent the beautiful and cheery cards to my mother, and the couple angels who sent me one as well. We will forever be grateful; I hope that I am able to return the favor someday.

God Bless,
Mary
